Overview of StoryPoint Abbot Park
StoryPoint Abbot Park is committed to ensuring that our caregivers are provided with ongoing education and training. Upon becoming a member of our team, each staff member is provided with an extensive orientation process that includes both State required training and additional training required by our community. Both new hire training and our ongoing continuing education programs include topics related to Dementia, Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Resident Safety, Confidentiality and Safeguarding of resident information, Safe Medication Administration Techniques, and Customer Service. Training is provided for staff through in-person in-services and online continuing education.
We have a well-rounded social and activities program that includes outings to area state parks, local museums and shopping. Pet visits, spiritual and cultural programs that enhance daily lives.
StoryPoint Abbot Park provides complimentary transportation via our wheelchair lift van to and from medical appointments. We also use our van to take our residents on outings to local attractions, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
StoryPoint Abbot Park provides staff for the Memory Care Neighborhood 24-hours a day. The neighborhood staffing depends on the number of residents who make their homes there. We ensure that we meet or exceed all required staffing for our Memory Care Neighborhood.
Our restaurant style meal service is delivered in our beautiful dining room that looks out over a patio and green space. We offer a featured meal each day for the noon and evening meals, as well as an extensive ala carte menu. Ala carte selections are prepared to order at each meal. Breakfast is always cooked to order and is available upon request at all three meals!
StoryPoint Abbot Park's Memory Care Neighborhood is designed to engage residents and encourage interaction between residents and caregivers. The neighborhood is intentionally designed to provide “activity” stations that appeal to residents who are may wander or have repetitive behaviors. The neighborhood offers an activities table with puzzles, memory games, adult coloring, and painting supplies that residents have access to around the clock. The space is open and conducive to those who enjoy walking and offers activities stations for sorting and folding, sensory stimulation, organizing, and tactile stimulation. Reminiscing activities often feature a topic and encourage residents to share their experiences from a past time in their lives to stimulate long-term memory.
StoryPoint Abbot Park is designed to the latest in fire safety standards and life safety codes with a fully integrated alarm system that includes smoke detectors in all resident apartments and throughout the community and a remote connection to a central dispatching system. Our community is fully sprinkled ensuring even greater safety for residents. Residents are provided with an emergency call system that is monitored in a central location and alerts staff when a resident needs assistance. All entry and exit doors are alarmed and provide a greater measure of security. Our front entrance is locked after 7 p.m. nightly and requires a code and staff assistance to enter the community after hours. StoryPoint Abbot Park is also monitored 24/7 via security video cameras to ensure the safest possible setting for each of our residents.
In addition to our trained caregivers, StoryPoint Abbot Park's Director of Nursing manages the assessment of each resident using monthly reviews, regularly scheduled individual service plan updates and ongoing communication with staff and families. Our team establishes a baseline cognitive level for each Memory Care Neighborhood resident during the admission assessment process. Residents are formally re-assessed and their individual plans are established upon admission and updated every six months or when changes are observed by staff that require a new plan to ensure resident needs are being addressed.
StoryPoint Abbot Park provides each Memory Care Resident with choices and options for meals. Working with families, we identify “likes” & “dislikes” related to food choices and ensure each resident receives nutritious, well-balanced meals that appeal to the resident’s tastes. Caregivers take orders for each meal & residents join each other in a family-style setting in the dining area to share the meal. To assist our dementia residents in making their meal choices, our caregivers often use our picture menus to help them decide. Caregivers often share the meal with residents providing a modeling opportunity that encourages residents to eat. As residents progress through the varying stages of dementia, caregivers may request certain types of foods, for example, finger foods or sweet-tasting items that appeal to the resident. To encourage residents to eat, our neighborhood Bistro is set up to offer drinks & snacks that residents can have throughout the day.
Resident safety and security are a priority for the StoryPoint Abbot Park team. Safety measures include Sign-in and Sign-out logs at the front entry. All entry and exit doors are alarmed and those alarms are linked to staff pagers. Video security cameras are placed throughout the community and monitored for activity. The front entry doors are locked from 7 p.m.- 8 a.m. daily to provide an additional measure of safety and security. All other doors always remain locked from the outside and require a key code or staff assistance to gain entrance. Residents with a known history of wandering are referred to the care of our Memory Care Neighborhood.

Everybody seems like a family there at StoryPoint Abbot Park. The staff interacts with the residents, and they all know them by name as they're walking by. Everybody seems happy and well cared for. The place is bright, cheery, clean, has no bad odors, and spacious. I feel like they treat the residents like humans, not just old people. My friend is going to be placed on Monday. I was there yesterday, looked the place over, and was very impressed. I've gone to several other assisted livings, and this one is outstanding. They gave me a tour of both memory care and assisted living and they're both wonderful, but right now probably memory care is where he'll go. One thing that stood out is that the restaurant is open from 7:00 to 7:00, as opposed to other assisted living where they have a certain time and if the elderly slept through the time, they don't get a meal. Here, you can come in anytime and order and eat up until 7:00, which I think is fabulous. Plus, I can go for $10 and have a lunch with him. The gentleman, Patrick, was the one that did the tour with me. He was very personable, didn't rush, and answered all my questions. We had a good time together. He was on top of everything and helping to facilitate this because my friend is in the hospital. They were right on it, moving everything forward to get this to happen quickly. Even the custodian walking by had a big smile. He stopped to talk to me, shook hands, and introduced himself. Everybody was nice. All the staff that I met was very congenial and happy. They didn't look like, "This is a dredge to be here at work." They enjoyed their job and they loved the residents, you could tell.

Everything at StoryPoint Abbot Park is top of the line. They have a huge number of facilities. They have more of a facility structure than other places. Even their record for their turnaround time on their staff is excellent. Like I've never seen a non-turnaround time on staff members in healthcare to the point where everyone is working and everyone is working together so well. Their physical therapy area with a lot of their MSU students are topnotch. They're able to answer any questions. If we send my father there they would be able to set up any single part that I need for his level of care. It was a great tour. There were studios and one-bedrooms. Their price is pretty high, but I understand based on the level of care they're offering. It is above most of the other facilities because it uses AI tracking, and it uses a lot of data to help. Plus, if someone falls, they will never be on the ground for too long, they would be getting care immediately. That's the only place I've seen that has a feature like that.

The staff in Provision Living at East Lansing was very kind, welcoming, and accommodating. They made my mom feel very comfortable. It's a new facility. It's very open. It's smaller, so it has a cozier feel. They had a nice dining area.

- Special Comment: Foresite Eldercare provides continuous, detailed predictive fall and health monitoring without compromising resident privacy and dignity. This makes it possible to determine an individual’s activities without revealing detailed characteristics, facial features or discrete body parts. Residents benefit from freedom and autonomy in a safe environment; families sleep easier knowing that Mom or Dad is always under the watchful eye of the Foresite Eldercare technology. Foresite Eldercare is a powerful tool for surfacing fall risks. The solution helps track health acuity levels over time rather than making judgments based on just one or two incidents. It also provides early warnings of decline. “When you see better, you know and do better.”
