"Grandhaven Living Center was very good, and the rooms were very nice. They may be a little bit small for what we need because there's two of us; but for one, it is all right. Two different people toured us: one from independent living and another one from assisted living. They were very friendly and very nice too. The dining area was very clean and lovely. I know they're redoing or something, but it's all clean and upkeep looked good. When we were there, some people were in the exercise rooms on their own, but they also had a schedule of activities. They also have some patios off of some of the rooms."

"My wife is at The Woodlands of DeWitt. The facility itself is very new, modern, clean, and nice. It doesn't smell and it's run very well. There's a good staff and it's managed well. They're attentive to the residents. They take care of their needs. They're compassionate and they do their jobs pretty well. The food is OK. She is a vegan so she has a special diet and they've gone the extra mile to make sure she gets a vegan diet with no meat and most of it is pretty good. They play bingo and card games, they have movies, and they have swimming available, although she doesn't participate in that. They have quite a few activities all day, every day except weekends. Every weekday from probably 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., they have activities every hour to an hour and a half. It's very expensive, but compared to others, it's not that much different. It's less expensive than some and more expensive than some. Her apartment has almost three rooms. It's got a living room, a bedroom, and then sort of an entryway room that's pretty good sized, and then it has a huge bathroom. All the bathrooms are handicapped accessible because a number of their people require physical help and are in wheelchairs and stuff like that. The rooms, the building, and the property are very attractive, very nice, and well-maintained inside and out."

"We have visited Ingham Regional Assisted Living a couple of times, and it seems like a very nice place. It seems very warm, comfortable, inviting, and homey. The staff is very nice. The rooms and apartments are very spacious. They have physical therapy, birthday dinners, exercises, and bingo. "

"I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."

"My relative is at this relatively small assisted living facility. She has a furnished room and is very happy there. Everything seems to be working out well. She's getting the care she needs. It's close to our home and we're pleased with that. They have a walking club, cooking and baking sessions, musicians who come in occasionally to entertain the guests, and book clubs. She's happy with the food. She doesn't have any complaints whatsoever. She said everything is really good and the servings are really generous, so she's gone down to half portions which are adequate. "My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"My dad loved The Cortland Howell. He liked how it was set up. He liked how everyone was able to come into a little area and watch TV and gab and whatnot. The only downfall is when I originally asked the question, "Does insurance pay for it?" I was never given an answer. This is a privately owned company that does not take insurance, so it was going to cost me almost four grand without the nurses involved, which is something that my father cannot afford by any means, even on a GM retirement plan. It looked like it was a good facility. The staff was very friendly. He did a good job of showing us different apartments and stuff like that. It's very clean and taken care of. The size of the studio was good."

"Pleasant Manor is very nice and clean, and the employees are very nice. They provide very good service and they're all very nice. The food and dining area is all good. We play games like cards, dominoes and such, and watch television. I have a very nice one-bedroom apartment with adequate closet and dresser. Everything is good here, and the layout is very nice."

"My brother is in the Home Sweet Home of Haslett. The place is well-kept, the staff is excellent, and there are about four different living areas. The bedrooms are on the small side, but people usually spend their days in the other living areas, living rooms, and there's a sort of a front porch area. There's a dining/family room area and then another family room and formal sitting area. The grounds are pleasant and well-cared for, the rooms are small, but they're neat and they're nicely decorated. The staff does a good job, and they prepare the meals, not the resident. The community is adequate, it's a very pleasant place, and the people who reside there have been there a while for the most part. My brother shares a room with another gentleman. He's only been there for a couple of months, and as far as I know, there haven't been a whole lot of activities. The dining area is kind of open and there are about four tables that sit the 12 residents. Their food is mid-western home cooking. The facility is clean, it's neat, and I'm comfortable with that. The price is pretty commensurate with all the other facilities, my brother is paying $4200 a month."

"New Life Assisted Living Center is very nice and very clean. The building that my mother will be moving into is brand-new, and the rooms are of different colors which is very appealing. Also, everything's included. It goes from independent to assisted acute living. Every meal is home-made, so it's not coming from outside. They have a very nice dining area where the people can come in, and family can have meals with them. The staff is very caring and friendly, and they seem to be very devoted to their people. From what I can see, it's going to be a very positive atmosphere for her. "
