"I found The Woodlands of DeWitt. I'm on a waiting list. I'll have my own villa. It has a huge kitchen, two bedrooms, a bath-and-a-half, and a garage. If something happens and I start to decline, they'll transfer me over to another building, so I never have to leave. That's my final home. I didn't ask about their meal plans because I'm going to have my own kitchen. Nevertheless, they have full menus there. They have a small gym and a nice deck you can go sit out on. They have lists of what's going on for the week if you want to join in. It's nice and clean, and you feel safe to walk around outside, which I'm looking forward to. Each unit has a washer and dryer, which is great. You can have housekeeping for $40 per session, which I don't plan on using, but you never know. I talked to one person, and that was the head lady, Yvonne. She was very open and willing to answer any questions. She was very friendly. She deals with people like me, who are still independent, people who need assistance, or people that are in hospice. She is really personable. We have a lot of things in common, which is great. When I walked into the villa, I was like, 'This is what I want.' Right off the bat, that is what I was thinking. You've got to go with that gut feeling."

"My mother has been there for about 5 years and she is suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. When she first went in and she was able to take care of herself to a point but now she is in the memory care unit and is in hospice. It’s really sad to see her like this but I am very happy that she is where she is because I know she is in good hands. The whole staff is friendly and caring and they have always done such a good job for her. They also have extra activities that they involved for all the people that reside there. I can not say enough good things about this facility. The facilities are all modern and up-to-date and kept up very well. The memory care unit is very secure and they keep a very close eye on everybody to keep them from harming themselves or others by accident. My mother has had to go to the hospital a couple times because of things she has done and they caught it right away and took good care of her. Like I said, I cannot say enough good things about this place. I live an hour and a half away and I would love to have moved her closer or may be a place that might be cheaper, but she is happy here and that is what matters the most and she might not get as good care in another facility. The staff is the best! "

"The rooms are very nice and the Staff is exceptional! My parents Loved everyone and Lindsey does an amazing job with the activities. Jen was so kind to my parents and her daughter was a bonus. Emma always put a smile on your face. "

"Grandhaven Manor is very nice. We a have nice two-bedroom apartment. We are happy there and have programs that we can take advantage of. There are so many activities and exercise programs. There is a library and a kitchen, so we can have meals on our own. Everybody has been so good to us. My husband has Alzheimer's. "

"My mother-in-law and father-in-law stayed at Ingham Regional Assisted Living. It's assisted living but they also had a nursing home in the same place. We ate there a few times and it was pretty good food. They took care of the the place. They had mail delivery and a barber there. They had a nice room with a microwave and TV. They had a place where everybody could see a big TV. I was impressed most with the care of the staff. I also liked that if you leave, you'd sign out and sign in because some people get out of those places and end up dying because they get lost somewhere. "

"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."

"We visited Courtyard Manor of Swartz in person. We met outside and walked around the facility and looked in a couple of windows. It seemed like a very positive experience. It seemed like a well-cared for facility. We weren't able to go inside, but just the impression we got was that it was a well-run facility. The staff seemed very professional and had a positive outlook. We only met one person. We were able to look through a window, but we couldn't really see the room very well inside. The exterior seemed well cared for and in good shape."

"Caretel Inns had everything we need. The place was only two years old, and that was a big factor. There were no bugs in the place and that was a good thing. The staff was pleasant and observed cleanliness. They treated their residents well. The apartments had one bedroom and a kitchen in, where the residents can cook. The residents can also go down to their dining room. They have 3 meals a day and snacks. My wife was a trained chef, and she said the food was good. During our visit, there were residents playing cards outside. They had a pool for residents to swim in. They had three vans that picked people up to go shopping. We walked all over, and there were a lot of activities going on. Their security was very good. They had cameras all over. They had slide keys like in hotel rooms. Their price was $2800 a month, and it was reasonable. "

"Vicinia Gardens had private rooms, which I wanted. It was a fairly new place and very nice. The people I met were nice. The rooms were really nice, private, and big, and you can bring whatever you wanted into the room. The living area was large, and there was an area where they can go outside. "

"I had seven places I looked at, and A Family Affair was my favorite one of all. It was very clean, and they seemed really nice and caring. The dining area was on one end of the kitchen, and it was big where they would sit and talk. They had a big formal living room, and the bedrooms were real nice and clean with hardwood floors -- just like a big house. "

"I wouldn't consider Olive Branch Senior Assisted Living. It's kind of outdated and it doesn't smell good. You walk in and the staff don't give you any feeling of confidence. They wanted a lot of money, too. I looked at a couple of rooms. They walked me through the eating area. It's not a facility I'd consider. I didn't have that long interaction with the staff. My initial reaction was that they were not professional. It's privately run. It shows its age. The rooms were sort of small and dark. I wouldn't recommend it to somebody else."

"When you walk in We Care you immediately get a very home like feel and the smell is not bad either. The staff is nice but not extremely engaging. When you first walk in the door there the dinner table set out with games and puzzles on it. In this particular facility there is a capacity of six residents. Regular meals are required for all guests and are important because many elder people don't eat what they should. There is a large living space with a TV and furniture which many of the residents use frequently. The rooms are customize to their specific gender and preferences. One complaint was that my grandmother room had to be propped by a can and wouldn't stay open by itself like the others rooms. This is important because she doesn't have the strength to open the door and also cannot call for assistance. All in all it was a nice place and much better situation then if my relatives were living alone. "
