"Brookdale Meridian was nice. The staff member who assisted me was very informative. She was really good. The residents were watching TV, playing cards, and playing board games. Brookdale Meridian was at the top of our list. The staff was excellent."

"I looked at this facility and saw what it was like. I thought it was very nice looking. I checked the room out; it was OK and I thought it was spacious. They don't have a dining room, because they had a dining area in each of the different rooms there and lounges. I saw the residents doing some crafts and painting. I thought the place was fairly safe."

"It is a beautiful place. I would move there. The amenities were very nice, and the rooms were beautiful. The person who took us on the tour was very kind and knowledgeable. You can tell she loved her job and was very excited to show us the facility. They had a movie room, a number of excursions planned for shopping and shows. The residents were very nice people and very happy to be there. The place was spotless."

"The staff in Provision Living at East Lansing was very kind, welcoming, and accommodating. They made my mom feel very comfortable. It's a new facility. It's very open. It's smaller, so it has a cozier feel. They had a nice dining area."

"Independence Village of East Lansing was a very nice facility, except Mother needed more care than they had readily at hand. She had an apartment, a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. She was allowed to have a microwave and refrigerator. They had a very nice dining room, and their location was good. If I had to go to a place, I would definitely go over there."

"We chose Bickford of Okemos because they were willing to work with my parents. They put them together in apartment, and everybody seems very caring and competent. Things are going well. The food is pretty good, and my parents liked it. I think it's a good place; I had a friend who had her parents there, and she also recommended it. It's a very nice-looking place. The room is small, but they got a 1-bedroom little apartment which has a full bathroom in it and a little sitting area and kitchenette. Everybody is more than happy to help out with everything we need. So far, I think it's good, and I don't have any complaints at all. "

"We've already put a deposit down at Red Cedar Lodge, but my parents-in-law backed out after a few days. We spent a whole day there, they gave us lunch, gave us a tour, and spent time with them. They even came and did a home visit. They were wonderful and they tried. The place was gorgeous. It was breathtaking. The staff was just absolutely so friendly and so wonderful. The food was great. Everything they offered was worth every penny they were asking. Every resident had a medical alert necklace. They had pull cords in every room. They would provide 3 meals a day plus snacks. They would do housekeeping and they would do their linens, bedding, and towels once a week. They would check on them, they would do activities with them, and would take them places. They could step up to the next level if they needed more assistance. "

"We visited The Woodlands of Dewitt and Mom said there is no way. It was $5,700 a month. She didn't like anything about it. It was a nice place. She would have had great care there, but she did not like the room set up and she did not like the price. The staff was nice. Everything was brand new and so clean. The atmosphere was quiet and the few people that we ran into seemed to be pretty happy."

"I can’t say enough great things about Oliver Woods. They really care for the residents. For the staff, this is more than a job! They genuinely want to help the residents have the best life possible. My Mom has been in two different buildings depending on the care she needs and each and every staff member has been top notch. They made the transition from one building to the other seamless. The rooms are beautiful and well cared for. There is lots of natural lighting and all the common areas are clean and set up for interaction of the residents. The care is superb. When we are not there, we don’t have anything to worry about. All her needs are met and she has lots of activity."

"Grace Haven employees truly care about the residents and go out of their way to make it a home away from home atmosphere. They are so kind and caring. My father was well taken care of during his last days after being there for several months. When he passed away, there were tears of sorrow, comfort and memories shared by the staff. When we moved him from another facility to Grace Haven we all became part of their family as well. Their support and help was outstanding for which I have been extremely grateful. This is a rare community that is not found in other facilities. They were a true answer to my prayers for help. The employees in all areas are an extremely valuable asset to Grace Haven organization, and I hope that management recognizes they are the reason for this facilities success and value them as such. Congratulations to them all for the hard work they do. Thank you so much. (i want to recognize them all by name, but I’m afraid I’ll forget someone by accident. You all know who you are."

"My mother is doing very well on her own in Grandhaven Living Center. One, I was impressed by the staff. Secondly, the rooms were much more accommodating, the grounds, the friendliness of the people, and most importantly the residents were always out milling and about. The staff was doing things with the residents, and the residents were doing things on their own; they were not in their rooms watching TV. They have some activities whether it be quilting or playing puzzles; that impressed me a lot. The other aspect I liked was that they had large elevators. Many of the facilities that I’ve toured these past 3 months have only a very small elevator. "

"I've been on the independent living side of Grandhaven Manor. The experience was pretty positive. I like the activities that they have. I visited the facilities, and they were fine. They were very small, but still had nice facilities. The size of the units was small. The staff members were very helpful. I like that the place was well-maintained. Parking might be an issue for people with mobility issues. But other than that, I think it's okay."

"My friend moved to The Courtland Edgewood. Everybody that we've worked with over there seemed to be supportive. It's nice there and they're trying to update it. They have activities every day. They have games. They have a little prayer meeting before lunch. They have people come in. I know they've had people playing the piano. Yesterday they had a special dance group come in to entertain people. I know they had a family day, so some little kids running around there yesterday. I've seen the other pricing from other places just to find out what their costs were, and the pricing at the facility was more reasonable, especially for people that are low-income."

"Bickford of West Lansing starts out at the assisted living level, so they don't have any independent living. They only have about 60 people, so that was automatically a no because my mom wants more people and she wants people that are better off. The community itself was really nice, although the rooms were too small. We saw studios and an extremely small 1-bedroom, which was another problem, but the facilities are nice and new-ish."

"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."
