Nursing Home Communities in Okemos, MI

"My dad is in the dementia care of MediLodge of Capital Area. It's one of the few nursing homes that still has that. It's a really nice facility and they take very good care of him. Any little thing that happens, like if he bumped his elbow or tried to stand up out of his wheelchair by himself, anything like that, they give us a call and let us know. So, they keep a very good communication line with us. He has nurses that really seem to care about him and know him really well. He needs a special kind of mashed up food now because of his swallowing, and they make sure that he eats. If he doesn't eat well, they offer him a nutritional drink shake. So, we just feel like he gets really good care there. I like it because the hallway is very quiet. They have a TV area, but I don't believe there's televisions in the actual room so that it's much quieter than when my mom was in Kalamazoo, where everybody had their own television, and they were on very, very loud. It's a quieter area for my dad, which is great for his dementia because it just gets too distracting with all those televisions going and stuff. It's a nice, clean, and updated facility. The rooms are nice, too. Last month we went to a picnic where they loaded up all the people and their wheelchairs and took them to a park and took a grill to the park. The family came and met the residents at the park. We were under a pavilion, and it was really nice and really special. They put forth a lot of effort to do it. They seem to be happy when family visits. One time we weren't there for a little while because my mom was having problems, and we didn't see my dad. His nurses were like, "We're so glad you came. We were hoping you guys would come soon. He needs to see you." It was just really nice because they like family that come in."

"They had memory care, and we knew that my mother-in-law needed memory care. The Willows had a lot more things that residents could do while living and just staying in the place. It had a garden that you could walk out on and do, and they had little stations of different things that people could work at or go to -- just a lot more activities that she could venture out of her room and do. It wasn't a large place, but it was really nice. They had street names for the hallways, and it was just very friendly. "

"i thought it was surprisingly comfortable for a hospital type setting. the stafff, for the most part was warm and helpful. my mother, who was the resident, had no complaints and all her problems were handled in a timely fashion. "

"We've chosen Aria Nursing & Rehab for mom. Overall, it's OK. There may be a little understaffing but that's to be expected during the pandemic. Other than that, it seems alright. She didn't have any complaints about the food. Her legs broke, so she really can't do anything, but I know they have activities because she says she can hear them playing in the activity room. She's in the rehab part. The only problem that I had was getting through to her. We had to buy her a cell phone because they don't have phones in the room and if I had to leave a message or something like that for her, it took a pretty good amount of time to get her the message and for her to get back with me."

"When I first visited the Dimondale Nursing Care Center I was impressed with the exterior look of the building. It appeared to be well cared for and the parking lot and grounds were clean and neat. Upon entering the facility I encountered several residents who seemed to be unattended near the entrance without any staff in sight. Although I am sure there are multiple residents that are able to care for themselves, this did concern me because of their proximity to the entrance and the possibility that they could leave without anyone knowing where they were. In addition it seems strange that visiting guests can just enter without having to provide any kind of identification or being asked if they need assistance. Other than that initial concern, the facility itself appeared to be clean and neat and the staff that I encountered were very friendly. There was a large lunchroom and I saw a couple of postings for upcoming events to it appears that the residents have the option to do different activites on different days. "

"My father was a resident at the Tendercare West facility after a series of strokes. My mother was unable to keep him at home due to her working schedule and the lack of adequate help being able to stay in the home with him during her absence. I found the staff at Tendercare to be very kind, courteous and caring. They appeared to be knowledgable of my fathers medical condition, as well as him needs. They were also very helpful as far as training our family on the do's and donts as we were attempting to implement a plan to take him home. The facilty was up to date, clean and well staffed. My father is quite the picky eater and was thouroghly satisfied with the meals that were served. I was pleased with the fact that they also provided several activities for the residents and their families. Overall all I was genuinely pleased with the level of care provided at the facility. "

"When someone is admitted to a nursing home or rehabilitation facility, they always come with unique circumstances and needs. Those that staff “good” facilities, demonstrate awareness, sensitivity, creativity, flexibility and a commitment to the care of each and every new resident. When my 96 year old mother in law desperately needed to be admitted to a rehab facility 16 days ago…at a very late hour…the director of The Regency, West Lansing stepped up. After 16 hours in a local ER, and after numerous back and forth phone calls, Mom was finally admitted to the Regency at 11 pm. Over the next two weeks she received superb care, particularly Physical Therapy and Occupational therapy. Her nurses were very sensitive to her needs and those of her 96 year old husband who was her constant companion, supporter and motivator. The food she received was very adequate. Mom came home today and she and our whole family are so very grateful to the staff at Regency Lansing West for the wonderful experience she and our whole family had during her stay. If we ever need the services of a nursing home or rehab facilty in the future, Regency will be our first call. "

"Ovid Healthcare Center seems to do a pretty good job so far. My dad hasn't had any complaints about anything. There always seems to be an ample amount of staff there. The rooms are a pretty good size, fairly simple, and functional. The few people that I talked to at the desk have been helpful. They assisted me in getting him the things that I bring in and they're fairly personable. The food is pretty simple. The facilities are not super attractive or welcoming, but it has a nice courtyard. They have varied activities. They recently had a management change."

"After my grandfather had a stroke, he and my grandmother with Alzheimer's disease were unable to live on their own anymore and had to move into a nursing home. Overall the facility is alright, they have the same schedule everyday but there are special events sometimes such as a recent performance by a local high school singer. The food is not the best, but that is to be expected. Everyday they are fed at the same time and have a nap time everyday as well. A few months ago, a bug went around and the facility was "quarantined" for about a week until the infected had recovered. The staff are great for the most part, with some being better than others. Several nurses are great, very attentive and willing to go the extra mile. Overall they are well taken care of but the day-to-day life seems a bit monotonous for them. "

"I recently visited a family member at this facility, and thought I'd like to take a moment to share my opinion on it. It is a newer facility. I really liked the atmosphere there, and being in one of the rooms made me feel more like being a home environment, rather than a clinical one. The staff was very nice and attentive to my family member, and professional and friendly to us as visitors. There are a lot of great activities and the facility sits on nice grounds, and is in a good safe area.Being a former nurse aid in another part of Michigan, I've seen a lot of different nursing homes and assisted living centers - this ranks right up there and is far better than most I frequented during my work. "

"Medilodge of Livingston felt cleaner. It was a nice place. It was acceptable. I think the only issue I had with the facility was that my mother couldn't get in there because there were no open rooms. It was a clean place. The people were very nice. They were thorough. The food looked good. They were all very, very pleasant and welcoming."

"I chose The Willows because of the care and the location. It's in Howell, which is where my family is. It looks like the perfect place for Mom. The nurses and the staff are available at all times. They come to the room to get her to do activities. Everything's great. They have a dining room, but they can also bring the meals to her room if she wants them to."

"I visited The Willows at Howell and toured the nursing home. It was a fairly new facility and in excellent shape. I would recommend it. It was just very pricey compared to anywhere else, probably 25% to 30% more costly. It was $14,000 to $15,000 a month for 24-hour nursing care. They have very limited Medicaid beds and choose their existing residents over the newcomers on them, so it would probably be a 4-year wait. As far as the facility goes, that was the number one facility we looked at. I dealt with the salespeople and they were very good and informative. They were very truthful, too. They painted what I perceive to be the correct picture of the facility. We didn't go with them because of the cost, more than anything else. They have very high-end amenities. At dinner, they had salad bars and 2 or 3 dining areas. They had low beds and their rooms were spacious. It's more spacious than what we were used to, as far as Medicaid beds go. They seem to be well-staffed from my tour standpoint because I saw a lot of the staff. They had extensive recreation areas, and I would say that the place was immaculate."
