"My friend moved to The Courtland Edgewood. Everybody that we've worked with over there seemed to be supportive. It's nice there and they're trying to update it. They have activities every day. They have games. They have a little prayer meeting before lunch. They have people come in. I know they've had people playing the piano. Yesterday they had a special dance group come in to entertain people. I know they had a family day, so some little kids running around there yesterday. I've seen the other pricing from other places just to find out what their costs were, and the pricing at the facility was more reasonable, especially for people that are low-income."

"We visited The Woodlands of Dewitt and Mom said there is no way. It was $5,700 a month. She didn't like anything about it. It was a nice place. She would have had great care there, but she did not like the room set up and she did not like the price. The staff was nice. Everything was brand new and so clean. "I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."

"I am a resident of Independence Village of Grand Ledge. It's very clean, and they have a big emphasis on sanitation, which is really good. They provide very good maintenance of the apartment. Beyond that, I think one of the big things about the success of this organization is that they are so friendly. They really preach that. Everybody is talking to everybody and the staff is so caring. They go out of their way to serve you. For instance, I haven't gotten a newspaper yet and rather than me have to go down to the desk to pick up my issue, they deliver to my apartment door like 4:00 to 7:00 in the morning or earlier. They try hard to please you. The service is wonderful. They provide cleaning of your laundry, of your bedding, and your towels. They have a good facility for you independently washing your personal clothing. I've only been here two-and-a-half months and most of the staff know my first name already. It's a large organization. They try to make it like your own home. My apartment is a one-bedroom. Before I moved in, they recarpeted it. I have a lot of space. I can't even fill it all. I've got some empty drawers in the kitchen. This is 618 square feet with one bedroom. I have a stove and a refrigerator. I don't pay for all my meals, so I can do some of my own stuff. I can have food left over on my plate, which they normally give you more than you want to eat and I could use it for my own kitchen. I don't have to go to a grocery store very often. The heating is fine. I got a nice porch. I'm on the second floor and I have a sliding glass door so I can go and sit outside if I want. They just do a good job. I get a couple of main entrees and there are also other items that you can get each meal. It's like a regular restaurant. You've got a variety of food and salads. They have appetizers. I've had catfish, salmon, cod, and shrimp. The food is really good. They have activities seven days of the week and throughout the day with exercise and educational things. That was the other reason why I wanted to go here."

"I liked Oakhaven Manor very much. It was very nice and very clean. Karen was the one who assisted me, and she was very nice and answered all my questions. Their menu looked pretty good too. It had a variety of different things to offer. They had nice-sized rooms, a laundry room, a wellness health plan that they offered if my mom needed extra help, a really nice theater room, a crafts area, a library with a pool table in it, and an exercise room. They had a lot to offer, but they weren't having any activities yet because of COVID. They were getting ready to set it up, and whenever they do have it, it's going to be really nice."

"The people at Friendship Manor were very friendly and very helpful. The place looked clean to me and the location was very centralized. They have a library, an activity room and their laundry room was coin-operated."

"Our move in experience with Heritage Village Holt has been great. My mother-in-law refuses to eat their food but she has her own kitchen. We chose this for her because it's one that she could afford and it's one that she could take her dog with her. The place is very nice, updated and it's clean. And it's easy-access for people that have canes, so you don't have to use some kind of device to help them in ambulating. There are elevators. It's very wide open, so it's easily accessible."

"We're hoping to get into the Great Lakes Christian Home because we know people there, it's close to where we live now and where our son is. We like the setting and people that we met like the staff, as well as residents that we met, and the available activities that are coming back. The staff who gave us the tour answered all our questions and was very helpful. Everything was shut down as far as activities during the pandemic, so they're bringing things back. Everything is clean and well maintained. They have a salon and a library. From what I know, the value of money is good. We have friends who live there."

"My mother is in Clinton Commons and she is living on her own there. She is on a month-to-month rental there. I've just gone into the front door and gone up to her apartment. What I've seen was very nice. Her apartment is large and it's very clean and very nice. I don't have any complaints about it. The residents are friendly enough. It's just I don't know that it's going to meet her needs for long. We just have to wait and see on that, but it does seem to be a nice place. I can't speak about the dining hall or the meals because I've never been down there. Usually, when I go, she just wants to take off and go do something. We kind of eat out the front door and that's what we do. She has a two-bedroom apartment, with one bath, a living room, a small dining area, and a full kitchen. It's a very nice-sized apartment for one person and a cat. Her cat is with her. There are some activities, but I don't know what they are. She's not participating in those. She has mentioned the bingo, but she hasn't gone down to do anything. They have a beauty salon and she has used that. There's a pond and there's a cement path around the pond they can walk around. She's using a walker, so she can easily walk outside and around the pond and people have dogs and they walk, so it's a nice outdoor walking area, but it's outside, not covered or anything. I've only interacted with one person and she had a cleaning cart. She was friendly, but I didn't need anything or ask for any help. The building is nice. You walk in the front door and there's a coffee service. They have a carafe with hot water, coffee, and decaf. Some people bring down baked goods or somebody will deliver cupcakes from someplace. They can walk down there and get coffee and a snack if they want. I've seen that multiple times, which to me seems real nice. I've seen residents sitting around in that area having coffee and visiting with each other. They're always very chatty when somebody comes in the front door. They greet us. It seems to me that people there are very happy. It has a real overall positive feeling. There is a washer and dryer in the apartment that came with it, too."

"I visited a friend at The Brook of Portland. It is very clean. It is decorated very nicely. It's very current. There's nothing old. All the smells were good, clean, and wonderful. They were having dinner at that time, and the food smelled good. Everybody waved and wanted to say hi to our friend. It is very pleasant. They're bright, happy people. My friend just moved there, so she is a new resident, but she'd lived in the area for a long time, so she knew a bunch of the other people there. Everybody is kind, nice, and helpful. They have a family type feel to it. It's lovely. The dining area is nice, open, and sunny."

"We went over to the Fiddler's Green Senior Community and I think that's going to be an awesome place. When we went there, there were only like three residents there but I think once they get going, it will be a nice place. I was impressed with the people. They seemed very friendly. They were telling us that they were redoing some of the rooms and putting in individual bathrooms for every room. It was really cold so we haven't taken my friend out there yet but I thought it'd be a great place to live. It sounded like once things got going, it was going to be nice. Right now, they're going to do individual meals for everybody but when they got enough people in there, they were going to do it like a buffet-style so they could come and choose what they wanted instead of ordering. They could still order though and they could still eat in their rooms. The staff seemed to be very caring, energetic, and fun. They told us that they have a very small staff right now because they only have 3 people, but they plan on getting a hold of doctors that come in once a week, dentists, and different people to come there instead of the patients having to go to them. I thought that would be a cool thing for people who didn't want to get out all the time because of colds and stuff like that. As for food, I think they are serving them healthy choices. It's an independent living and the apartments were remodeled rooms but they were big and taken care of. To me, it looks like it's an old nursing home and they're redoing it to have individual rooms. I know they were taking closets out and putting new bathrooms in. It was still in the remodeling stage when we visited and I haven't been back there since. It was clean. You can tell from the walls that there was an older building, but I thought it had all new paint and I knew they were trying to put new windows in."

"We toured Sycamore House Senior Living. That was the first one we ever went to. It's a high school that's been converted to a senior living apartment. The apartments were very big and spacious with high ceilings. The people living there appeared to be very friendly. The building was very well kept. The management was very friendly and informative. Instead of having us fill out an application, she asked us questions, and she filled in the answers on the application itself. She was very helpful. They had one- and two-bedroom apartments, and everything looked new. They have activities, but if you're looking for amenities such as the swimming pool or shuffleboard or something like that, they didn't have that. I think they had an elevator, but I'm not sure if they had any amenities. It was a little expensive for my budget. It was like $975 for a two-bedroom. If we figured my daughter's income and mine, it would put us out of the income bracket they needed. We just didn't fit the income bracket after we did the application. It was a beautiful place. The people were friendly. Management was great. It was just a little out of my price range."
