"I have moved into StoryPoint East Lansing. It's beautiful. We have a backyard, trees, and woods. It's nice. You have three meals a day, and if you need help, they have people who can help you with meds, bathing, whatever. The people assisting us are caring and helpful. They have good energy. The food is really good and balanced. The servings are for a 200-pound man, so there's more food than a woman can eat. It's wonderful. They have bingo. They have what they call Wine Down Wednesday, so they have music, and you can have wine or a beer. The common areas are clean and safe. I have my own little patio, too. They allowed me to have my dog. He is a big dog; he is 65 pounds. I think what let them get me in is that he is an international therapy dog, so he has a lot of training. He takes care of every person who comes out of the hallway, too. It's nice."

"The staff in Provision Living at East Lansing was very kind, welcoming, and accommodating. They made my mom feel very comfortable. It's a new facility. It's very open. It's smaller, so it has a cozier feel. They had a nice dining area."

"Independence Village of East Lansing was very welcoming. We loved that it wasn't too big. There weren't places where Mom would have to walk a long distance. They had really wonderful activities, and the managers were so friendly to us. The rooms were spacious. They had bingo, and then they had different themed game nights. They also do a lot of tours, like the zoo or out to a restaurant. They had a popcorn machine right by the door, and we had popcorn."

"It was a very nice place. They got organized things daily and all kinds of stuff for the elderly to do. They have a physical therapy room. They got a lot to offer. The staff was very nice, but they're just going through a changeover of ownership, so all of them are trying to learn the new way, the new ownership, and stuff like that, but they were very nice. They had their monthly menu put out so people could see what was on the menu and what have you. They have the monthly activity menu, too. The rooms were nice. Everything looked clean. They were a little disorganized, but I don't think that was their fault. That's just because of new ownership. Everybody was trying."

"We visited The Woodlands of Dewitt and Mom said there is no way. It was $5,700 a month. She didn't like anything about it. It was a nice place. She would have had great care there, but she did not like the room set up and she did not like the price. The staff was nice. Everything was brand new and so clean. The atmosphere was quiet and the few people that we ran into seemed to be pretty happy."

"I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."

"I was in Independence Village of Grand Ledge for two-and-a-half years. What I like most is the people, the workers and the residents. It's a pretty big unit, but they made it very comfortable. We were very, very pleased there. We lived on the second floor, and they had elevators. We had a single-bedroom apartment. It was all furnished except our furniture which we put in. Washer and dryer is down the hall with an ironing board and it's fully equipped and very handy. We had a nice bathroom and an electric range for cooking. They got something going all day long, from exercise programs to movies. They even had raised a chicken or two in there for elderly people to see and enjoy. They had a lady who comes in three times a week and dresses women's hair and cuts men's hair. They had a very, very useful library, it's nice sized, it had a lot of books and a lot of people read there. I'm a Veteran myself and they have very nice plaques on the wall of your picture and what you did when you served. They keep it up well and it's so huge. They have so much property for walking and spending outside. They even have sheltered parking for you. They're very understanding. Any problem, they take care of it. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. We had the evening meal prepared for us. They've got four people that are cleaning all the time. They always had good entertainment come in. Once a month, they had a community dinner for everybody."

"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"I found Heritage Village Holt for my aunt. She loves it. They have a game room, TVs, puzzles, and they do crafts. They have a church there where they do services on Thursdays. It's nice that she can buy one meal a day, and then she just does breakfast and lunch herself. Overall, everybody is very nice. They're very friendly. She's very happy there. She talks more, and she gets out of her apartment and sits and talks to people. It's the best thing I ever did for her. The food is like $11 or something for a meal, and you can't do that at a restaurant. The staff is very, very nice. Everytime I go in there the place is nice and clean. She loves the activities, and that's all that matters to me. I know they do a bunch of craft stuff and she likes that. She shoots pool because they have a pool table."

"My mom moved to Delta Retirement Center, and she likes that she has an apartment with a bedroom, a bathroom, a little kitchenette, and a living room. So, it's very nice. They serve two wonderful meals a day. The workers there are caring. They remember your name. Its pricing is excellent and more affordable. The maintenance man was awesome. He tried to hook up my mom's TV set. It wasn't Delta Retirement Center's fault. It was the carrier that was having a problem, and this guy worked on it, and there was no charge. They're always asking, "What can I do to help?" I'm not even a resident. I'm just a family member. They have a receptionist at the front door, and they always greet you. I went back, and I had dinner. It wasn't bad. It wasn't what I expected, but it's pretty good. I don't like their parking, but I liked everything else and the cleanliness. They have activities every day. Someone comes in to play music, and they have therapy animals. They have a beauty shop and some arts and crafts, but my mom hasn't participated. Olivia is the sales and marketing person. She's excellent and a great resource. Rick, the executive director, is also excellent. They always take time to talk to you. The caregivers and the kitchen staff are exceptional. They do a good job of hiring their staff."

"The main common areas were recently renovated and are quite attractive. It’s arranged like a wheel with four spokes. The hub of the wheel contains the front desk, dining room, cafe, hair salon, lobby sitting areas (5 separate ones each attractively appointed), a large Chapel where services are held every Sunday, a theatre room with comfortable chairs where a movie is shown each afternoon, a game room with pool table, and other games, and an activity room. Each hallway has 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, free washers and dryers (2 each) centrally located, a storage room with private lockers for each 1 bedroom apartment, and a central sitting area with books and room for jigsaw puzzles. They have quite a collection of DVDs, books, and jigsaws for loan. There is a large accessible van used for organized outings and also the grocery. There are always a lot of activities like bingo, exercise classes, etc. There is one meal a day included in the price and it is served at lunchtime. They post the menu online each month and also put a copy in mailboxes. It is varied and generally tasty. You can have it delivered to your apartment for a small fee. Most residents are capable of independent living and the residents I’ve met have all been kind and caring individuals (as are the staff). Despite its name, it is not overtly religious, although a morning prayer is said daily through the intercom. Although it’s listed as an assisted care facility that care is contracted with a separate company on an individual basis. So, if 24 hour care is required I imagine it would be very pricey as the aide would not be shared among other residents as far as I know. Each apartment has a full kitchen, dining area, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. The 2 bedroom's have one large walk-in closet for storage. The kitchen is dated looking but functional. The biggest downside to the apartments are that the bathrooms have a bathtub and not a walk-in shower. There is a cutout to make the step in possible, but not easy. They do not even have grab bars unless you have them installed at your expense. My mother has been living there for about two years and she and I are very satisfied (except for the bathtub - what were the designers thinking?!). The price includes all utilities - including cable tv - except phone and internet ( the lobby has free WiFi). Also door to door trash pick up twice a week and light housekeeping once a week. They also have 3 bedroom stand alone “villas” with garages, but I have not seen inside one."

"My mom is at Clinton Commons. She has been there for three and a half years now. It's very clean. Everybody has their own apartment. If you want to come down for a meal, you can. You pay per meal that you come down for. They give you a menu ahead of time, and you can choose if you want to come down or not. And they also have all a carte things like hamburgers, grilled cheese, and soup and all that stuff that you can get. They have limited entertainment just because of COVID going around. They have exercise and bingo four days a week. They have a coffee hour one day a week. When COVID is not around, they have movies on Saturdays. Everybody is super nice. The food is very good. Almost all are homemade. They have Bible studies. They have puzzles in different places in the building that you can work on. There are several lounges that different people meet in and visit."

"I visited a friend at The Brook of Portland. It is very clean. It is decorated very nicely. It's very current. There's nothing old. All the smells were good, clean, and wonderful. They were having dinner at that time, and the food smelled good. Everybody waved and wanted to say hi to our friend. It is very pleasant. They're bright, happy people. My friend just moved there, so she is a new resident, but she'd lived in the area for a long time, so she knew a bunch of the other people there. Everybody is kind, nice, and helpful. They have a family type feel to it. It's lovely. The dining area is nice, open, and sunny."
