"The rooms are nice. Kinda close but still nice. They keep the rooms very clean. The staff is nothing short of amazing. When my mom was there the staff really made me (the visitor) feel like family. I would recommend this facility to anyone."

"We have chosen Arbor North for my mother-in-law. I like that when you walk in, it's very welcoming and it has a friendly-feeling atmosphere. The entranceway is set up so that in the summertime, it's a nice place for residents to go and socialize. They can sit in the sun or sit in the shade. It's just a very homey feel. They offer a lot of games, activities, and events for the residents, more than many of the other places we looked at. In addition to that, the whole facility is set up more with a homey feel rather than a sterile feel. In addition to that, residents have their own little porch where they can sit down. They share it with their neighbor, but whether they socialize with the neighbors or not, is entirely up to them. The other thing is that, if needed, they provide the amount of care as far as you need laundry services. The residents can do the laundry or a family member could go in and do the laundry, or they'll do the laundry for you for a charge. We did not taste the food, but we saw some of the food being served. From what we can tell and the impression that we were given, it's home-cooked with personal touch. The residents had a couple of choices of what they would like, and it looked good. We talked to a couple of residents, and they said they love it there, and they said they like the food."

"My husband did assisted living at Countryside Manor for six days. They have a nursing home, assisted living, independent living, and memory care. Their staff was not adequate to handle someone with mental health issues. They weren't very well trained. The place was very nice, and the rooms were nice. I just was not happy with the things that were said to me. The entrance to where he was in was on McCain Road. It's a very large complex, and it has a double entrance with an airlock. It has fancy furniture, and it's very nice looking when you enter. The problem was his mental health problems destabilized, and they weren't able to handle that very well. They got really angry with me and said if they've known he was gonna have trouble, they wouldn't have taken him."

"The thing I liked best about The Village of Spring Meadows was that it was very independent, and had a detached 1-car garage, so my mom could remain independent with her vehicle, but they did not have those available. The condos did not have any type of activities. But they did have the apartment complex, which was independent living apartments, and those did offer community events, but she didn't qualify. The staff was very helpful, very friendly, and very knowledgeable. It was very well kept and very well maintained."

"My in-laws are staying in Deer Run Independent Villas in Spring Arbor. It's one of the 10 or 11 independent living condos behind their assisted living units. I like that there's no transfer of services. At this other facility I checked, they said if something happened to one of my parents, the other one would go to the assisted living part and pay a fee. It's not like that here. They just basically rented an independent living condo. They have been very helpful in getting my parents settled and answering our questions. The cleanliness and the structure of the building are very good. The size of the room is very large and the place has a friendly atmosphere."

"I'm living in Arbor Oaks Living Center. I've been here for two years now. I came in a wheelchair, and I'm using a walker now, so I'm taking care of myself. I clean my own apartment. I take my own medicine. I go for my own walks and stuff. The staff is good, the food is decent. They have Wii bowling. Whoever wants to go, they'll put them on a bus and take them for a ride. They do provide weekly errand runs, which means that if you have had to go shopping for anything, they'll go out once a week. You bring your own furniture and everything."

"We went to see the Brooklyn Living Center. I liked it because it was a smaller facility, and it was very bright and cheerful. When we walked in, the residents were playing cornhole, and we all could tell they were really enjoying themselves. We got to tour the rooms. The staff was amazing and just super helpful. The manager, Amy, sat down with us for like an hour and talked to us about the facility. We actually put a deposit down on that place, but they don't have availability right now. So when it does become available, hopefully, we'll work out the finance. Down the road, if they needed help with reminders for medication, they offer all kinds of help, like with the laundry. I like the fact that they can put their trash outside their door, and they do the linens every two weeks. You could tell it was very well run. I would live there. The facilities were nice, the rooms were nice, and the dining area was lovely, open, and spacious. And they provide tons of activities daily."

"We toured the Chelsea Retirement Community. It was beautiful. I thought they had several dining rooms. They had a swimming pool. They had a beauty salon. I saw one of the rooms. It was just very, very beautiful. They were very nice. The staff was very nice, informative, and knowledgeable."

"We toured The Pines. The apartment that they showed me was small, and they had a lot fewer amenities compared to other places. They served no food in this facility. You either cook your own or order it in. They had a few things, like a book club and a crafts room, but not too much of anything else. The staff who assisted us during the tour was very nice and very helpful, and she answered all our questions. If you want to walk into town, there are sidewalks."

"My mother-in-law didn't like Silver Maples of Chelsea. She thought it was way too expensive and it was too hoity-toity for her. She is a little bit more down to earth. The layout was extremely nice. It's a very nice community, but for the price they want to charge, it's not worth it. They wanted too much. The staff was very pleasant. It's spotless, it's a very nice place, and it's very clean, but it's just too expensive."

"Cedars of Dexter is exactly what we’re looking for. Most of the retirement places I've looked at seemed like you're living in a dormitory with long halls and doors to each side. But Cedars have 60 cottages, and each one is 1,600 square feet. So each person has their individual cottage and they're grouped together in threes. It's located in a rural area, and we've lived in very congested busy areas and we don't want that anymore. Dexter has a population of only 4,400. They provide food, each resident gets a $200 amount to use and if you go over $200 they bill you for it. Lunch is served cafeteria style and dinner is served dinner style. The attractive thing about the place for me is buying into the place guarantees admission to three phases of care. They have maybe 50 something residents. Tthey only serve a meal on Monday or Tuesday, and the reason for that is that they keep the same staff on the food service area and they want to give them time off, so they only serve brunch on Sundays. They have a separate dining room for the dinner meal, and it takes 2 hours for each meal. And they also have what amounts to a café, there's a library, education room, swimming pool, salt-water pool, and so on. The community is nice but there's only one concern I've got. Given you don't have long hallways from your own individual unit, you have to walk about 150 yards to get to the clubhouse where the food and all the exercises are at. So it's a problem if there's a snowstorm, that's my only concern, otherwise you could get a car and drive up there. One thing I like is that we're given the opportunity to re-design what was there. We get to pick what color we want and what carpets we want, it's like living in a home. They gave us a choice of how we want to get in. One is no money back, and that requires approximately $200,000. Another option was 50% back, and the last option was 90% back."

"Great Lakes Christian Home was excellent. I was very impressed with the place. Everything was fine. I asked a couple of members there and they thought the food was fine. They have very few two-bedroom rooms there, but they showed me the one-bedroom, and it was very spacious, so I was very impressed with it. They just didn't have any opening at the time. They have a beautiful chapel, and they use that as a movie room, too. They have all kinds of recreational things going on here and there, and they have a huge room for activities. The lady that assisted me was very nice. She introduced me to other staff that went around and they seemed very nice, too. If my son was staying there in Holt, I would very much consider staying there. The building was very nicely kept, more modern, and newer than the other place."
