The main common areas were recently renovated and are quite attractive. It’s arranged like a wheel with four spokes. The hub of the wheel contains the front desk, dining room, cafe, hair salon, lobby sitting areas (5 separate ones each attractively appointed), a large Chapel where services are held every Sunday, a theatre room with comfortable chairs where a movie is shown each afternoon, a game room with pool table, and other games, and an activity room. Each hallway has 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, free washers and dryers (2 each) centrally located, a storage room with private lockers for each 1 bedroom apartment, and a central sitting area with books and room for jigsaw puzzles. They have quite a collection of DVDs, books, and jigsaws for loan. There is a large accessible van used for organized outings and also the grocery. There are always a lot of activities like bingo, exercise classes, etc. There is one meal a day included in the price and it is served at lunchtime. They post the menu online each month and also put a copy in mailboxes. It is varied and generally tasty. You can have it delivered to your apartment for a small fee. Most residents are capable of independent living and the residents I’ve met have all been kind and caring individuals (as are the staff). Despite its name, it is not overtly religious, although a morning prayer is said daily through the intercom. Although it’s listed as an assisted care facility that care is contracted with a separate company on an individual basis. So, if 24 hour care is required I imagine it would be very pricey as the aide would not be shared among other residents as far as I know. Each apartment has a full kitchen, dining area, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. The 2 bedroom's have one large walk-in closet for storage. The kitchen is dated looking but functional. The biggest downside to the apartments are that the bathrooms have a bathtub and not a walk-in shower. There is a cutout to make the step in possible, but not easy. They do not even have grab bars unless you have them installed at your expense. My mother has been living there for about two years and she and I are very satisfied (except for the bathtub - what were the designers thinking?!). The price includes all utilities - including cable tv - except phone and internet ( the lobby has free WiFi). Also door to door trash pick up twice a week and light housekeeping once a week. They also have 3 bedroom stand alone “villas” with garages, but I have not seen inside one.

I toured Great Lakes Christian Homes back in March. They were hard to get ahold of initially, so we had to try a couple of times. I think there's only one person that was able to give us the tour. They have the main building and the villas, and my mother was mainly interested in the villas. The building looked well-maintained. The staff members were pretty good. I liked some of the activities, the physical therapy, and things like that. I like the grounds. They had a library room, a game room, and things like that, so there were good activities for the seniors. The library looked cozy.

I currently live here and am very content. The maintenance team is the best. All staff members do a wonderful job. I rarely have a problem but when something arises it is addressed promptly. The residents are friendly. I would prefer a few more activities but am not sure what that would be. It is extremely nice having religious services right here at the facility. I feel very secure and safe. The price for the apt. and what is included is exceptional from anywhere else I looked.

The tour I had at Great Lakes Christian Home was good. The appearance was good. They had a lot of activities for people by age group. The food was very good. I had a salad, fish, dessert, coffee, and water. It was a good meal. They've got a lounging area. When we were there, they were having an ice cream social outdoors. They've got a lot of things available. The assisted living was kind of a la carte. You pay for what you're supposed to need. They had laundry down the hallway. The kitchens weren't that big, and I still like to cook.

We are leaning towards Great Lakes Christian Home for my mother. We liked everything they had to offer. The price point was right on target. We toured the apartment, and it was very nice. The amenities were very nice. They had a lot to offer. The staff was very knowledgeable, was able to give us all the information, answered all of our questions, and was very friendly. She did give us a calendar that showed all the things they do, and there was quite a bit offered there. We did get to tour inside the church and the cafe. The salon wasn't open yet, they're remodeling, but we did look in there. And then she took us through a game room and a library.

We're hoping to get into the Great Lakes Christian Home because we know people there, it's close to where we live now and where our son is. We like the setting and people that we met like the staff, as well as residents that we met, and the available activities that are coming back. The staff who gave us the tour answered all our questions and was very helpful. Everything was shut down as far as activities during the pandemic, so they're bringing things back. Everything is clean and well maintained. They have a salon and a library. From what I know, the value of money is good. We have friends who live there.

I think that Great Lakes Christian Homes is awesome; I have high ratings for them. My brother-in-law has his apartment and they bring him 1 meal a day; that's about all the assistance they give him. They have friendly staff, the place is clean and the people are very helpful. If you have any questions, they're very willing to answer. With COVID, the activities are very scaled- down but the other day when I was there they had a cup painting activity in the main lobby area. He said he hasn't eaten anything there that he didn't like yet. They had a stove and a full-sized refrigerator.

Great Lakes Christian Home was excellent. I was very impressed with the place. Everything was fine. I asked a couple of members there and they thought the food was fine. They have very few two-bedroom rooms there, but they showed me the one-bedroom, and it was very spacious, so I was very impressed with it. They just didn't have any opening at the time. They have a beautiful chapel, and they use that as a movie room, too. They have all kinds of recreational things going on here and there, and they have a huge room for activities. The lady that assisted me was very nice. She introduced me to other staff that went around and they seemed very nice, too. If my son was staying there in Holt, I would very much consider staying there. The building was very nicely kept, more modern, and newer than the other place.

I've been to the Great Lakes Christian Homes a couple of times. It was a very nice place and I would certainly recommend it to someone who needed a place. Some of the people that we met were very friendly and very professional. The rooms were fine. It's in a rural area and it's in the South side of Lansing.

I have already made an application at Great Lakes. I already have my apartment repaired and reserved for me. I’ve been over there about three times now and I’ve noticed socially, that there are different groups in different rooms doing different activities; like one room doing puzzles and in another room playing cards. My impression is that they seemed very friendly and efficient; I will know that more when I get to over there and also to see how well they prepared my apartment. It appeared to be very clean and very nice, however there are a few things that they noticed themselves that they said will be fixed before I came in there; so I was very impressed with that. I don’t know if they’ll follow through but I’m assuming they will. My mother did live there for a couple of years before she passed away, so there is some background there. They have a chapel on site with a chaplain, which appeals to me. They have a very nice library. They have a very nice dining area and its restaurant type style. They have a little gift shop, a beauty shop and a barber shop that offers not only hair care but pedicures and manicures as well. The other thing that impressed me is that there is no smoking in the property at all and no animals either; just birds and fish but no dogs or cats. The staff was very friendly, outgoing and very helpful.

Great Lakes Christian Home is a wonderful community. The main part of their campus is a large building with small apartments for people who can still live mostly independently, but may need some assistance. For people in the main building, not only do they get their own private apartment, but they also get cleaning service, and meal service for one day a week. There's an active community with always some activity going on, and several on-site services like a library and barbershop. For people who have retired, but aren't yet ready for the services in the main building there are independent living townhomes. One of the other services that I've appreciated as a family member of one of the residents is that they've set aside several apartments in the main building that can be reserved when family members visit. It's cheaper and closer than a hotel, but still keeps us all from having to sleep on top of each other. It also has to be said that the staff is wonderful and caring and warm, and really help make this place a tremendous place to live.
