"This was such a wonderful place for my father-in-law. I just wished we found it sooner. The food was wonderful, the care was so touching and full of empathy. It just felt like a home environment yet with 24 hour care we could finally relax. Again Eric and his staff Amy were beyond what I had at his previous place."

"My father lived at Story Point for 13 months. I can’t say how much he enjoyed his time there. He made the most of the community and made many friends amongst residents and staff. He loved “home” as he called it. As his health began to deteriorate, the staff jumped in to help at every turn, lovingly and gracefully providing him with extra care and consideration. As a family, we were welcomed as well, and enjoyed so many gatherings there. It is truly an amazing place with individual care with the extra TLC we all want for our loved ones."

"The apartments are very nice at American House Carpenter Senior living. They have plenty of room and everything in the room was brand new. They have a lot of activities like ceramics, card playing, theater and other things. The people working there were very nice and helpful. The food is excellent; they gave us two choices and a full course dinner. It's a place I'd like to live in. "

"I'm in Independence Village of Brighton Valley. This place is beautiful and always kept very clean. The staff is helpful and cheerful. They care about the people that live here. They have a lot of activities for us to participate in, if we wish. All of this makes living your home a little easier. The Village is located in a nice area in Brighton and I highly recommend Independence Village of Brighton Valley. It's expensive though."

"I wasn't happy with Lockwood of Lyon because they've reduced the quantity and quality of the meals. I spoke with the administrator and with the head chef, and she has agreed to review the exact meals that I was complaining about and she also assured me that she will investigate the quality of the meats that we are getting. It's rather nice because it's set way back off the road on a large parcel of land, so we have a curving drive into the development. It's a very large apartment complex. We are on the very back corner, southwest, and we face small woods. It's nice because we have a lot of wildlife. Last night we had two deer in the yard, this morning, several rabbits, and a ton of birds. It's really like being out in the country. They have a rather small staff. There are two ladies who are cleaners, and they clean extensively long hallways. They also do minimal cleaning in all the rooms, if you want, or you can pass on the cleaning. The hallways are not carpeted. They are simulated wood on plastic tiles, so that we don't have the problem of the nasty carpets that some of the places are showing bad wear. We have a 12-passenger van that will take you shopping around the area and also to the banking center of the community every week. Once or twice a month, we do either a men's group or a women's group to a restaurant or even the mixed group. Everything is here in this community, so it's very nice even if you don't have a vehicle."

"My brother moved into Vista Grande Villa. It has several buildings, it seems to be very well laid out, it's very large, and a long way for him to walk, but other than that, he seems to like it there. The staff seem okay, they don't tell him a lot of things, but there's an appointed person that helps him with questions, so he's getting along okay. The dining area is pleasant and he seems to like the food. They publish the menu ahead of time, now he knows what to eat, and it seems to be adequate and food is good. He plays card, Bingo, and they have day trips to different cities to do things."

"My husband has been at Oakhaven Manor for a couple of weeks. I chose this place because it's close to my home and we can afford it. It also has very good feedback from everyone I asked about it. He is in a one-bedroom apartment and he gets dinner every day, a nice, well-balanced meal and very good food. There is someone who comes in and cleans his apartment and does his laundry. The staff are very nice and caring. Everybody seems very pleasant. They have a billiards room, a gym, a laundry room if you do your own laundry. They also play cards. They have a little library. All in all, it is a very nice and pleasant facility. "

"I did a tour of Lakeside Assurance Assisted Living. It was a private residence converted into a facility. It has a total of four residents; there were two that were there and there were two open rooms. It was laid out well for a conversion, and it had a common area that was set up that was very roomy. The facility was laid out nicely. There was a part of the facility that was still being developed into a guest room that was under development, but the rest of the place was set up nicely. It was very clean, and it had a cook that prepared the meals, taking into consideration dietary requirements. The administrator that we met with, Brenda, was very detailed in explaining why she started the facility. Her mother had dementia, and she was struggling with having her in a big facility. She decided to develop this, so she would know about her mother's care and everything. She had a connection with a physician and a podiatrist who would visit regularly. The meals and the laundry in the room are all included. Then it would accommodate my sister's furniture, so that was nice. I think she had to have familiar surroundings. I think they could accommodate both assisted living and memory care, but right at that time, it seemed like the residents that were there were dementia patients. We only met with Brenda, and she's seemed very compassionate, caring, and concerned about details about my sister. What kind of activity level she was? Is she verbal at all? Did she interact with people? I thought that was very positive. I think she would be engaged with my sister. It's still under construction partially, but the part that we saw, she set it up very specific to taking care of the residents."

"My mom stayed at American House Milford for rehab. It was very good. She had a room there and she was only there for a little bit. I remembered they seemed understaffed to me. If she needs something it would take a while. It just seemed like they had too many patients for one person; they were overwhelmed. They seemed very clean. I remembered one time I sat down with a table full of people and they were making some kind of a pie and they were cutting up apples and doing stuff like crafts. They always had events planned and they were keeping people active and they encouraged people that came in there to participate. She had to have a surgery because her break was so bad, and they could not set it and her wrist was so weak, so they had to rehab her and provide physical therapy. My mom was happy there."

"We toured The Pines. The apartment that they showed me was small, and they had a lot fewer amenities compared to other places. They served no food in this facility. You either cook your own or order it in. They had a few things, like a book club and a crafts room, but not too much of anything else. The staff who assisted us during the tour was very nice and very helpful, and she answered all our questions. If you want to walk into town, there are sidewalks."

"My experience with the Chelsea Retirement center was overall positive. The staff was friendly and helpful, and willing to assist my great-grandmother whenever it was necessary. The only thing that I was a little dissappointed with was the atmosphere of the center. The overall atmoshpere is rather depressing. I feel like the residents here know that this will be the last place they will reside in their lifetime. Lots of the residents seem to be sad, lonely, or afraid. The attitudes of the residents can be contagious. Many don't have friends or families that come to visit, so I always end up socializing more than I expected to. The food at Chelsea retirement center could also be improved. That seems to be a chief complaint amongst the residents. They refer to it as "hospital food". A higher quality menu would be a nice idea! Personally, I would recommend Chelsea Retirement center to anyone looking for a place to retire, if they are able to get used to the saddened atmosphere. "

"Cedars of Dexter is exactly what were looking for. Most of the retirement places I've looked at seemed like you're living in a dormitory with long halls and doors to each side. But Cedars have 60 cottages, and each one is 1,600 square feet. So each person has their individual cottage and they're grouped together in threes. It's located in a rural area, and we've lived in very congested busy areas and we don't want that anymore. Dexter has a population of only 4,400. They provide food, each resident gets a $200 amount to use and if you go over $200 they bill you for it. Lunch is served cafeteria style and dinner is served dinner style. The attractive thing about the place for me is buying into the place guarantees admission to three phases of care. They have maybe 50 something residents. Tthey only serve a meal on Monday or Tuesday, and the reason for that is that they keep the same staff on the food service area and they want to give them time off, so they only serve brunch on Sundays. They have a separate dining room for the dinner meal, and it takes 2 hours for each meal. And they also have what amounts to a café, there's a library, education room, swimming pool, salt-water pool, and so on. The community is nice but there's only one concern I've got. Given you don't have long hallways from your own individual unit, you have to walk about 150 yards to get to the clubhouse where the food and all the exercises are at. So it's a problem if there's a snowstorm, that's my only concern, otherwise you could get a car and drive up there. One thing I like is that we're given the opportunity to re-design what was there. We get to pick what color we want and what carpets we want, it's like living in a home. They gave us a choice of how we want to get in. One is no money back, and that requires approximately $200,000. Another option was 50% back, and the last option was 90% back."
