"The sales representative at Atria Park came out to meet us immediately. She was delightful, very well informed, very good communication skills. We looked at one of the apartments, but it was too small for us. The chef met with us and assured me that he could meet my dietary needs. They presented us with a gift of food. They invited us to come back for dinner. It was very informative. We were very pleased with it. "

"This was such a wonderful place for my father-in-law. I just wished we found it sooner. The food was wonderful, the care was so touching and full of empathy. It just felt like a home environment yet with 24 hour care we could finally relax. Again Eric and his staff Amy were beyond what I had at his previous place."

"This has been a wonderful community for my mother. The attentive and supportive staff have helped both of us as my mother's needs evolved, including facilitating her transition from Independent to Assisted Living. To a person, every staff member has been kind, capable, and responsive to our needs. The AL community is small and family-like, with delicious shared meals, group activities, and open common spaces including a lovely courtyard. Rooms as spacious, quiet, and well maintained. "

"I toured the independent living community of Lockwood of Ann Arbor. It is a new community, and the amenities that they offer were what I was looking for. Meals and utilities are included, and they have a lot of social events. The person I spoke to was very nice and informative. They were the only ones that allowed me to put a deposit down for about 30 days. When I first got there, they had a sign in the lobby that said, "Welcome home, Carolyn," and I really liked that. The receptionist was very nice, and the maintenance person was very helpful. It's a newer community, not even two years old yet, and I'll be the first one occupying the apartment I'm moving into."

"Independence Village was beautiful inside. It had high ceilings and decorations. They had a lot of activities there. I had gone there several times, and they had musicians and comedians. They always had open house. It was for my sister, but when it's time for me to go, that would be the place I would like. However, it was expensive. "

"I toured Lockwood of Lyon. I like it, and it's probably at the top of my list, but I wanted to look at a couple of other places that aren't very far away from there before I make a decision. I have mobility problems, and I wish that Lockwood would have had some kind of a walker or something to help me get around a little more easily, although that's probably true for a lot of them. Maybe they expect people to bring a walker themselves. I use a cane, but a walker would certainly have helped make it more comfortable. The biggest thing is to have a washer and dryer in your own room. I saw a beauty parlor. I just passed by it. It's very nice, very clean, and very new. The person who gave the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. The dining room looks very nice. They didn't serve lunch, but they evidently serve a bistro kind of lunch where you can get sandwiches or something. I went at lunchtime, and we didn't stay for lunch. The dining room looked beautiful, but we didn't go into it. The place was beautiful, too. It's brand new, only two years old."

"My brother moved into Vista Grande Villa. It has several buildings, it seems to be very well laid out, it's very large, and a long way for him to walk, but other than that, he seems to like it there. The staff seem okay, they don't tell him a lot of things, but there's an appointed person that helps him with questions, so he's getting along okay. The dining area is pleasant and he seems to like the food. They publish the menu ahead of time, now he knows what to eat, and it seems to be adequate and food is good. He plays card, Bingo, and they have day trips to different cities to do things."

"My husband has been at Oakhaven Manor for a couple of weeks. I chose this place because it's close to my home and we can afford it. It also has very good feedback from everyone I asked about it. He is in a one-bedroom apartment and he gets dinner every day, a nice, well-balanced meal and very good food. There is someone who comes in and cleans his apartment and does his laundry. The staff are very nice and caring. Everybody seems very pleasant. They have a billiards room, a gym, a laundry room if you do your own laundry. They also play cards. They have a little library. All in all, it is a very nice and pleasant facility. "

"I found a place, and I'm moving into Lockwood of Hartland. They have a few apartments that Michigan would pay for part of. So, I would be paying $1,750 a month instead of $3000 or $4000. They have an exercise room, a movie theater, and lounges. They have a room that you can have your family come in, and if you need to have a party or something. In the back of it, they have a path around the pond that you could walk around. It is very nice. I got the one-bedroom, and I'm on the ground floor, and that's what I wanted. They have elevators, but I still wanted to just be able to walk out and get my car. The manager was very accommodating and very informative. It was good. I'm going to prepare my own food because it's like $600 and some dollars a month if you eat there. If there's something that I see on the menu that I want to eat, all I have to do is give them an hour's notice, and I'll be down and eat. The facility is beautiful, too."

"I did a tour of Lakeside Assurance Assisted Living. It was a private residence converted into a facility. It has a total of four residents; there were two that were there and there were two open rooms. It was laid out well for a conversion, and it had a common area that was set up that was very roomy. The facility was laid out nicely. There was a part of the facility that was still being developed into a guest room that was under development, but the rest of the place was set up nicely. It was very clean, and it had a cook that prepared the meals, taking into consideration dietary requirements. The administrator that we met with, Brenda, was very detailed in explaining why she started the facility. Her mother had dementia, and she was struggling with having her in a big facility. She decided to develop this, so she would know about her mother's care and everything. She had a connection with a physician and a podiatrist who would visit regularly. The meals and the laundry in the room are all included. Then it would accommodate my sister's furniture, so that was nice. I think she had to have familiar surroundings. I think they could accommodate both assisted living and memory care, but right at that time, it seemed like the residents that were there were dementia patients. We only met with Brenda, and she's seemed very compassionate, caring, and concerned about details about my sister. What kind of activity level she was? Is she verbal at all? Did she interact with people? I thought that was very positive. I think she would be engaged with my sister. It's still under construction partially, but the part that we saw, she set it up very specific to taking care of the residents."

"I chose to move into Rose Senior Living Providence Park because it was newer and they have balconies. It's got Oakland County trails right behind it that you can get out on and do whatever you want to do on the trails. The least I like about it is the food. And they don't have nice sitting areas for people where they can congregate outside of their apartments, in independent living. They do have a couple of spots in assisted living, but independent living has nowhere to sit and talk to your friends and stuff like that. They have a good activity program. They have bingo, arts and crafts classes, and they bring singers in. There's a bar in the building that they have opened a couple of days a week, so people can be in there when it's open. There's a nice gym with like 8-10 machines that are all new, they have a theater where they show movies in, and a couple of other things like a hair salon."

"Well, when I visited the facilities looked fairly nice. They werent as outstanding as they seem to be described by the organization but still very respectable. The staff in the area I was in was a little sparce but seemed incredibly nice and caring. His grandmother's mind has started to deteriate with her age so they have accomadated her with the care she deserves and requires. The grounds are well maintained and there are plenty of activities to keep up an active lifestyle. She really seems to like it there and she appreciates the company they give her after the loss of her husband. This is a place I would be willing to send a loved one who required more care than i could give them. My friend also seems very satisfied with how they treat his grandmother and he says the price of her care is very reasonable when looking at other places in the area. He wouldn't tell me specifically how much money he pays for the care she recieves but I know he isn't rich so it can't be too much. Overall I am satisfied by this facility and so is my friend and his grandmother. Thumbs up all around! "

"My mom stayed at American House Milford for rehab. It was very good. She had a room there and she was only there for a little bit. I remembered they seemed understaffed to me. If she needs something it would take a while. It just seemed like they had too many patients for one person; they were overwhelmed. They seemed very clean. I remembered one time I sat down with a table full of people and they were making some kind of a pie and they were cutting up apples and doing stuff like crafts. They always had events planned and they were keeping people active and they encouraged people that came in there to participate. She had to have a surgery because her break was so bad, and they could not set it and her wrist was so weak, so they had to rehab her and provide physical therapy. My mom was happy there."
