"I did a tour of Lakeside Assurance Assisted Living. It was a private residence converted into a facility. It has a total of four residents; there were two that were there and there were two open rooms. It was laid out well for a conversion, and it had a common area that was set up that was very roomy. The facility was laid out nicely. There was a part of the facility that was still being developed into a guest room that was under development, but the rest of the place was set up nicely. It was very clean, and it had a cook that prepared the meals, taking into consideration dietary requirements. The administrator that we met with, Brenda, was very detailed in explaining why she started the facility. Her mother had dementia, and she was struggling with having her in a big facility. She decided to develop this, so she would know about her mother's care and everything. She had a connection with a physician and a podiatrist who would visit regularly. The meals and the laundry in the room are all included. Then it would accommodate my sister's furniture, so that was nice. I think she had to have familiar surroundings. I think they could accommodate both assisted living and memory care, but right at that time, it seemed like the residents that were there were dementia patients. We only met with Brenda, and she's seemed very compassionate, caring, and concerned about details about my sister. What kind of activity level she was? Is she verbal at all? Did she interact with people? I thought that was very positive. I think she would be engaged with my sister. It's still under construction partially, but the part that we saw, she set it up very specific to taking care of the residents."

"I have moved into American House Westland Joy. The staff is awesome. The food is better than I expected. There's too much food, actually, for me. My apartment is a two-bedroom, and it's cute. I love it here. There's no gym, but there's plenty of fun activities. They don't just have bingo, but every Friday they have entertainment. It can be a comedian or it can be someone who's singing, and they're not just off the street. What I have heard so far has been pretty, pretty awesome. They're not professional, but pretty awesome. I love the community gatherings for entertainment. I haven't been able to go to many because I've had some illness, and I plan to get back down there and join the group. Everybody is so friendly and caring. It's great. I love it here. Right now, it's independent when I moved in, and since I've had this little problem, I'm going to be wearing a pendant, and that's $40 a month. If I have a problem, if I fall or if I just need something, then they will come up. Let's say I have fallen and they need to get me up, I push the pendant, and then there's a small fee for things that I need. It's very caring. I can't say enough good about the services, I really can't. They call it a pendant. I was totally independent when I moved in, but now that I have this problem and I'm going to have it for a couple of weeks, I'm going to use that service, and then I will let that service go. All the meals are included. The meals are really good. It's much better than what I expected. It takes them a while to get a maintenance man to do something because I think there's just one and he doesn't work on weekends, but somebody is always here to help. However, I really would like maintenance to be a little quicker. It's clean. It doesn't smell. There's always something going on. Every day there's something that they do, whether it's playing euchre, rummy or bingo, or just somebody playing the piano. Their activities are very good. They don't push you into doing things. You just take and pick what you want to do. I got a two-bedroom and a storage area, so I think I get good value. I got a beautiful view, I got a little balcony, and I got good neighbors on both sides. The value is good."

"Ashford Court was very nice and very clean. It was a one-story building, and the apartments were very large and very convenient. The staff was very nice and had a lot of information. The dining area was very nice. There was a group in one room doing chair exercises, and a gentleman doing a big puzzle. They had a calendar of events."

"I toured American House Westland Hunter. What I liked about it was that it was so clean, and the staff was wonderful. Everything was nice, so I didn't have any bad things to say about that place. I saw a one-bedroom apartment."

"I toured American House Westland Venoy. I like the community because when you first come in, it's like the doors lock. So, it's not really open to the public because the seniors there, if they have memory care, can't get out. So, I did like the safety of the facility. The customer service there was nice throughout, and the employees from the front desk, the front office, all greeted me. I liked the dining room. Everything looked like it was updated. They greeted me when I came in. Even as I was walking along the halls, they still greeted me. They smiled. They were friendly. The person I was walking around with actually had to clean some of the rooms, which I'm not against her cleaning the rooms, but that lets me know that sometimes they may not have enough housekeepers to clean the facility, but because I was coming, I think they made it work."

"I toured Westhaven Manor. They have elevators for all three floors. The entrances are convenient. They have a library with a pool table. They have a room for people who like to play puzzles. What I don't like is not having your washer-dryer, but that's common in a community setting like that. They have a little store for immediate items. They have transportation to take you to the stores on certain days if you need to. They have different activities throughout the week. They have two different movie theater-type rooms. They have everything you could want. It's just the size of the apartment is so small. The staff who gave the tour was fantastic. Anybody we met along the way, she would introduce me to them. All the people that I met were wonderful and very friendly people. They're going to redo the beauty salon and they're putting in one of those pedicure chairs like you get in the nail places. They have a doctor that comes in. Water, trash, and sewers are included. Heat and electricity are not included. And the staff said that that runs roughly $85 a month but I don't know how they bill that. I toured a one-bedroom apartment. They have different pricing for their apartments whether you're on the first floor, the second floor, or the third floor. They have three different floor plans, and that varies the pricing."

"My mom has been here since April and for several months I was extremely happy with the facility, the staff was great when it came to the care of the residents. The only problem I had in the beginning was missing clothes and shoes. Recently the staff and administrators have changed and not for the better, I don’t understand why the change because the old staff was the best, no one is hardly available to address my concerns and the nursing staff is not as professional like the old staff which I wish could come back. At this point I’m looking for a new facility especially since they have increased their fees $200.00 and their services are no longer worth it. The only thing that is consistent from the time my mom moved in would be the activity director Bridgit, she is amazing and has my mother very active. It saddens me to see this beautiful place and staff in the beginning to change so drastically to the point I’m removing my mother from her comfort zone but I can’t keep her there. We had a life scare and Jatonya noticed she wasn’t breathing right called ems which I was told had it been any later she wouldn’t be here today. She is no longer there and that’s sad she was excellent at her job and I don’t feel this new staff are as attentive as the old staff, while I visit no one comes and check on her which they never know when we visit for this unhappiness I feel now she’s going to leave as soon as I find another happy place. I’m so sad to do this to my mom but the only thing to keep her there would be to return the old staff completely"

"My friend is in American House and it is very nice. It is very clean, attractively decorated, and very warm looking. The staff is very patient and nice. However, my friend is not really happy with the food, and a lot of the other people are not really happy with it either. "

"We toured Flat Rock Towers Co-op. The rooms are very large and have a lot of closet space and good safety features. All the amenities that I like are there. It's got everything you need. In the outside sitting area, there's a river right outside where you can sit by the river if you want. It's just very nice and relaxing-looking. The staff was so nice to me and my daughter. She just showed me everything and tried to explain everything, and as we went along with people that we kind of ran into, she would introduce us, and those people would tell us that it's a nice place to live. She was very knowledgeable about what was happening there, the bulletin boards, and how you keep up on what's happening outside like in the area, the churches, and stuff where they would have their bazaars. It was just lovely. I liked her. She made me feel so comfortable and welcome. It was an older establishment, but it was very clean."

"American House was nice and the location was good. The food could be better. I liked the setup of the apartments. They have bus service for trips to and from shopping and doctor’s appointments. The staff was very knowledgeable. "

"My love one lives at the community and is enjoying the activities, meals and staff. The building is bright, spacious and clean. "
