"We toured Lockwood of Lyon. It's a beautiful community. The only downfall was the pricing, which I didn't think would be sustainable. The rooms were beautiful, with enough living space for a single person, and their amenities were very nice. There was a library and a movie theater area. They had breakfast and dinner available, and they also had a little snack shop with different things available. I'm not sure if you'd call it a snack shop or more like a small deli, but if you needed something for lunch, you could pick it up there."

"We chose American House Westland Joy for my parents. It's independent living, but we can purchase additional care for them as needed. It's kind of a la carte. Based on what I've seen so far, I would probably give them five stars just for their customer service, their kindness, their flexibility, and their willingness to work with us on move-in dates and the particulars of our needs. One of the things that I liked about American House was the size of the rooms. I had looked at some other assisted living rooms and the rooms were much smaller and didn't have a full kitchen, which my parents can still use. I liked that there's a kitchen, there's a place where they can have a table, a stove, and a refrigerator. The apartments are updated with nice flooring and a little bit more updated cabinets. The apartments themselves were nice. They had lunch for us and my parents loved it. They thought it was delicious. I had some soup myself and I thought it was delicious as well. They gave me an activity calendar. They have a lot of activities at the facility. One night when I had stopped in to visit, they were having a holiday party and they had it very nicely set up with music. There were lots of families there with the residents. That was nice to see as well. The prices are what made me choose them overall."

Welcome to Carleton Co-op Apartments! Carleton Co-op is a 47-unit senior community in the small, rural town of Carleton, Michigan. It is conveniently located within five miles of the 1-275 expressway, in northern Monroe county. Carleton Co-op is nationally recognized as, “A Community of Quality,” by the National Affordable Housing Management Association. Carleton Co-op is located next to: medical offices, pharmacy, banking, post office, grocery store, restaurants, dollar store, hardware store and more. "I have a couple of friends there at Ashford Court. I'm also going to go into a studio there. It's pretty much just one room with a bathroom. I've their dining room and the main room when you walk in, they do entertainment. The staff members are all friendly. In terms of cleanliness, it's very clean."

"I toured American House Westland Hunter. What I liked about it was that it was so clean, and the staff was wonderful. Everything was nice, so I didn't have any bad things to say about that place. I saw a one-bedroom apartment."

"My brother is in American House Westland Venoy. It is wonderful. The director there, Cindy, was awesome. She explained everything and showed us around. Everybody just seemed so nice there. So far, my brother likes it. The staff gave us options on what to expect and what different programs they have there. The size of his room is perfect. It has everything that he needs. It's got sliding glass doors to go out to his patio. I thought it was very nice. Everything looks clean and fresh. They have card games, bingo, arts and crafts, and entertainment."

"We visited Westhaven Manor's independent living community for my mom. We took a tour from, I believe, the manager, and she was very nice. She gave us a tour of some of the units they have that were one-bedroom. There were two different layouts, and they were both nice. They had a beauty salon up in there, game rooms, and a movie theater, and it was all nice. I definitely want to put that on the list of places that I could stay at too. The living room was a decent size for a big screen TV, a couch or a love seat, and a coffee table in the middle. The kitchen was a good size too. It's even bigger than mine, so it was really nice. The bathroom was nice and also a good size. They had a closet and a pantry in there too, so it was pretty cool. The upkeep was nice. The landscaping and the yard work was lovely. It had flowers, and it was nice and peaceful. I didn't really see much staff, because it was more of an independent living place, so it was different. I didn't see any nurses, but the one lady we talked to was nice. I didn't see any dining area, so I think the residents would normally just cook for themselves. They said they go out to eat and stuff. I guess they have a bus and they put everybody who wants to go, and they went to places like Longhorn, which is cool."

"My mom has been here since April and for several months I was extremely happy with the facility, the staff was great when it came to the care of the residents. The only problem I had in the beginning was missing clothes and shoes. Recently the staff and administrators have changed and not for the better, I don’t understand why the change because the old staff was the best, no one is hardly available to address my concerns and the nursing staff is not as professional like the old staff which I wish could come back. At this point I’m looking for a new facility especially since they have increased their fees $200.00 and their services are no longer worth it. The only thing that is consistent from the time my mom moved in would be the activity director Bridgit, she is amazing and has my mother very active. It saddens me to see this beautiful place and staff in the beginning to change so drastically to the point I’m removing my mother from her comfort zone but I can’t keep her there. We had a life scare and Jatonya noticed she wasn’t breathing right called ems which I was told had it been any later she wouldn’t be here today. She is no longer there and that’s sad she was excellent at her job and I don’t feel this new staff are as attentive as the old staff, while I visit no one comes and check on her which they never know when we visit for this unhappiness I feel now she’s going to leave as soon as I find another happy place. I’m so sad to do this to my mom but the only thing to keep her there would be to return the old staff completely"

"American House Livonia was very nice and clean. The only thing was it was not secure. I didn't get to see the rooms. I saw the outside, the living room, and I had a meeting with the coordinator. Once we got to talking and he realized what I needed, that I needed more of a secure place because father wandered off, he referred me to see some other places. The living room was nice. There was a table there for them so I got to see some of the residents and some were on the porch. There was no odor. I like the place. The coordinator was very informative and helpful."

"We toured Flat Rock Towers Co-op. The rooms are very large and have a lot of closet space and good safety features. All the amenities that I like are there. It's got everything you need. In the outside sitting area, there's a river right outside where you can sit by the river if you want. It's just very nice and relaxing-looking. The staff was so nice to me and my daughter. She just showed me everything and tried to explain everything, and as we went along with people that we kind of ran into, she would introduce us, and those people would tell us that it's a nice place to live. She was very knowledgeable about what was happening there, the bulletin boards, and how you keep up on what's happening outside like in the area, the churches, and stuff where they would have their bazaars. It was just lovely. I liked her. She made me feel so comfortable and welcome. It was an older establishment, but it was very clean."

"I toured the independent living community of American House Southland in Taylor. It's alright, but it's not where I want to live. I would like to go somewhere where people are doing stuff. I don't want to go and just sit there and get fat. The rooms were beautiful and very neat. It was very spacious, but it's not for me. I think I'm more independent, and it just didn't feel right. I felt like I was in a convalescent home. The person who gave the tour was very nice. She gave a lot of information, and she wanted to know if I would be there for breakfast. The dining room was nice, and she said that they have breakfast and dinner there. They also have a little store that you could go in if you needed something real quick to make your own meals."

"I visited the independent living community of American House Dearborn Heights. The community was friendly, and there was a lot to do. I liked the layout of the independent living, and I liked how they had a choice for a meal plan. I like the layout of the rooms, and I was happy to see a washer and dryer. They also have a full kitchen, which is good. The person who gave the tour was friendly and knowledgeable. I also saw their dining area, and it was spacious and lovely."
