"We actually went to the memory care. The way it was setup wasn't as cheerful, it didn't feel as happy, and it was more patriotic. There's also a big difference with the way the people were served at the dining table. The residents were just right across from the kitchen. I guess they have a menu that you can order off of, but it seemed that the kitchen was right near the dining room where the residents were eating. The staff was informative, gave us a full tour, but we only went to the memory care side, and didn't go into assisted living. It was clean, it didn't smell, it was decorated, but they used a lot of brown, and it was basically just one room size, which were more like studios."

"Charter Senior Living of Bay City looked real nice. The people were friendly. Everything looked fine there. The staff was helpful. I didn't taste the food, but it seemed to be made in house, so it's probably good. They had a lot of crafts and stuff."

"We are going to move my mother to Auburn Heights Senior Care Inc. It's smaller. We just liked it. It had more staffing, and I liked the location because it's closer to my house. It was cheaper, too. My brother and his wife also took a tour, and they really liked it. The staff was very knowledgeable. I could tell that they cared about the residents. It was clean and nice. I liked the rooms. They said the food was homemade, so hopefully it's good."

"Bickford of Saginaw was very nice and very clean. When we first walked in, the staff wasn't as friendly to greet us. But once we were shown around, it was fine. The staff who showed us around wasn't the lady that usually gives the tour, so she wasn't as knowledgeable and able to answer my questions. The facility was nicely laid out. They had a microwave and a mini fridge."

"Right now, my mom is at Independence Village of Midland on a monthly basis. She is doing better. They still haven't been able to get her off oxygen, but she is doing well with the hip replacement, and a lot of the mental confusion from her heart attack is slowly going away. She is getting strength back, and they say she is progressing very well. There are various levels there and the part that my mom is in has a pretty good ratio of nursing staff to people who are in the rooms. And it seems that she gets a lot of attention. They coordinated well to get different physical therapy people coming in. She seems happy with the care that they give. She hasn't had a complaint on any of those things. Regarding the staff, everybody knows what my mom is up to, and they know her. They respond quickly. I have 24-hour round-the-clock phone numbers I can call and get attached to who's on the staff at any time. The staff is very supportive. I haven't run into any negatives at all yet. The facility is perfectly functional. The dining facilities and all that stuff are very good. It's a little antiseptic, but that's kind of expected. I tried one of the meals that she had, and it was reasonable home cooking. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was good and nothing wrong with it. They have lots of activities, too. They're always pushing to get her out of bed and into her chair and bring her out for the different activities. She does do some of them. Regarding value for money, I would say that they're better than average. It's very expensive, but I feel that you're getting what you're promised when you sign up to have a medical assistant available at any time and help them with their eating needs, their bathroom needs, and their therapy needs. All those things are very good. Unfortunately, it costs."

"The staff at Candlestone has been wonderful to work with. Marcie (Executive Director), Rob RN, Nurse Tammy and Celia (one of moms favorite helpers). They all have made this transition for our mother moving into Candlestone a lot easier. Communication was always there. No matter what time or what the issue was. . We could not have done it without all their help. They are a wonderful caring team. My brother and I greatly appreciate them. "

"It was pleasant and the staff was very helpful. We could tell that they took lots of precautions to make it comfortable for families and we were satisfied with all the offerings they had in the memory care. The rooms were maybe a little bit small, but they had lots of other common rooms and pleasant places for their residents. We were able to view the activities calendar and that looked quite good too. I believe they had regular pet therapy once a week, exercises every day, brain games, and one on one activities if needed, but also activities as a group. We saw people doing some kind of drawing or painting, so I'm satisfied that they find ways to engage people, not just park them in a corner."

"Everything went well during our tour of Bickford of Midland Assisted Living and Memory Care. It was a beautiful place, everything was top-notch. The person who gave the tour was very helpful, very knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. They were putting puzzles together, they had some exercise class, and the staff mentioned a few things that they did. We visited the courtyard and it was all nice. It looks like they do a wonderful job with the food. They said they do everything fresh, it's not brought out on a tray like everybody's eating the same thing. They can order what they want, which was nice."

"We visited Vassar Fields, and it seemed very good. There were people my parents knew who were living there so they were considering it at that time. They had arts and crafts and bingo. They had a room where people could come in, have popcorn, and watch movies and shows. They also have entertainment coming in from the outside. We visited the assisted living part, and I noticed that the independent living places seemed to be larger compared to the assisted living ones. They also didn't have a full kitchen. It was more of a room with a bathroom like a hotel suite, which is nice, but it didn't have kitchen facilities. The facility is also older."

"I have had the privilege of visiting Sheffield Place in Bay City, Michigan. I feel like this is a very special facility because it has numerous options for it's residents. If your loved one needs to have full assistance, they have assisted living. Or, if your loved one can still handle all of their daily activities but are looking for a place to live, they have an independent living facilities as well. I was able to visit this place and get a first hand perspective of the operations of Sheffield Place. My friend's grandmother lives at this facility, in independent living, and she loves it. She says that it is a great place to meet people and get into different social activities such as dances, bingo and other activities. I also was able to interact and watch the way that the employees dealt with the patients and found them to actually take the time to listen and talk to the patients. I was impressed with how clean and sterile the environment was and also the rooms that the residents stayed in were unique. Every patient is allowed to make their rooms into what they want and they can bring in things from home to make themselves feel more comfortable.Overall, this is a great facility and you should check it out if you are looking to place a loved one in a facility. "We placed my mom in Bay Valley AFC. It's just a care house. It's very clean and very friendly. Their attitudes are just awesome. They love the people that are staying there. There are people that have been there for a long time. My mom just went in a week ago, but they've been very accommodating. She is a lot cleaner where she's at so far. They take good care of them. I haven't tried the food there but it's all home cooked. The caregivers cook all their food. They have activities there. They play bingo three times a week, and they exercise daily."

"I visited Close To Home Assisted Living which was a remodeled school. It's kind of an average place. The staff members were pretty good and they were quite helpful in giving us the tour. They have a courtyard and lawns, and they have places where you could walk out like balconies. The upkeep and cleanliness were also average. It's located near restaurants and a hospital."

"I visited Close To Home Assisted Living Hampton. I thought there were too many people in wheelchairs for my dad and that might upset him because he's pretty mobile. They didn't seem to be outstanding. It's a little bit older and remodeled. The staff is about average, they seem to be pretty busy that particular day. They were confused as to who's supposed to show us around. It was kind of a mediocre place in terms of the facilities and cleanliness. It was fairly clean there when we went. It was kind of early in the morning, so they might have been kind of busy with the people who live there. There are restaurants nearby."

"My father was in New Hope Bay. It's independent livinng, assisted living, and memory care. He started in assisted living and we had to move him into memory care. It was a new facility, so everything was nice. They had a very good activities program and they tried to encourage the residents to do the exercise programs that they provided. Everything was a very positive experience. However, they did tend to have sometimes staff shortages which could cause a problem with the ability to give the assistance that was needed. The caregivers they had were excellent. It's just that they oftentimes needed more. They could take you to the doctors' office, they had an RN on staff, they had a doctor that they could contact, and they took them out for outings. They had entertainment come in, a hair salon, and a movie theater. The amenities were good. The food was fine. The dining area was nice, and they had the tables set nicely. They served a variety. On Friday, they'd have fish. They would have pot roast, spaghetti, and soup, and they always had an option for chicken fingers or hotdog, just your basic type of meals, stuff you'd have at home, like potatoes and shrimp. What I liked the best was the room my father was in was like his own little one-bedroom apartment. He didn't have a stove or anything like that because he wasn't independent living, so he couldn't have any means to burn the place down, but it was nice because it was more apartment-style rather than a bedroom. It had a general gathering area like some of the assisted living have. The only thing that I liked the least about it was when they were short-staffed, but they were very good and very caring."
