The Best Assisted Living Communities in Saginaw County, MI

"I loved my tour. The only problem that I had with them was that the community room was fairly small, and I'm in an electric wheelchair, and I'm always afraid I'm going to bang into somebody or something. The private rooms were bigger than the other place I saw, so they're OK. I just wish the common areas were larger. The couple of staff members that I spoke to in the office were very kind people. I liked the menus, I saw the residents playing cards, they had a beauty shop and a sauna. I liked the fact that the rooms have a small kitchen sink. They also have transportation services for the residents to go on outings, concerts, restaurants, baseball games, and so on."

"Candlestone is a welcoming community that is Perfect for my parents. The staff is great, always available to answer any questions. The rooms are nicely sized and kept clean. My parents enjoy the food ; stating that they get plenty to eat. There is plenty of activities but my parents are loners who enjoy just staying in their apartment. It’s a very quiet and peaceful environment."

"We visited Vassar Fields, and it seemed very good. There were people my parents knew who were living there so they were considering it at that time. They had arts and crafts and bingo. They had a room where people could come in, have popcorn, and watch movies and shows. They also have entertainment coming in from the outside. We visited the assisted living part, and I noticed that the independent living places seemed to be larger compared to the assisted living ones. They also didn't have a full kitchen. It was more of a room with a bathroom like a hotel suite, which is nice, but it didn't have kitchen facilities. The facility is also older."

"In the 68 years that I have been alive, I have never found a place that has better customer service. Every, and I mean every single person we interacted with was amazing. Due to my mother’s illness we visited all hours of the day and night and never had any problems or concerns with the staff. The building is very clean, free of odors and feels like home. We have never seen any residents that look unhappy or not cared for. The activities that take place are so wonderful, and family is able to join in. Dezarae, Kathy and Loren are so reassuring with the medications and take the time to know who the residents are. The food is wonderful, if mom wanted a grilled cheese or egg sandwich in place of a meal, it was not an issue. The housekeeper Katlynn was so kind and made sure to interact with mom when cleaning the room. We loved the layout of the apartment and that she could have a bird feeder outside of her window. Yes, they are expensive, however so are luxury vehicles. I am old enough to know that you get what you pay for. "

"Living Waters Buell Lake was very warm and caring. That was the place where I had decided to put my sister if she needed to be placed, but she is still able to function here at my home with me. When I walked in, the people that live there were very outgoing. They love the place that they're in. They couldn't say enough good things about the people that take care of them. I thought that was kind of odd because one woman has a memory care issue, but she is very happy being there. The staff was very attentive. Any issue or question I had, she answered. She's very caring. The rooms were nice and clean. They had furniture in there if my sister needed it, but if not, they would store it, and she could use her own furniture. When you first walk in, there's a family room dining area, and it's all open. Then the kitchen is right off to the right. It's pretty big. It's like a real family room dining area. After they had eaten their breakfast, they put activities on the table for them to do. There was one woman coloring. And for their food, they put a menu on the wall. They write out everything that they're going to have that day to be able to choose from for food. The staff who gave the tour was nice. Everything was new. Everything was remodeled. "

"Saginaw Geriatrics Home is a nursing home and assisted living. It was clean and very nice. They had activities and good food and she was there for a certain amount of time. She liked it there but her family took her out of there. The staff was very caring and very helpful and she seemed very content. The rooms are not really big. Their assisted living was quite small for two people. "

"I visited Edgewood and it's very nice. Everything is smaller. The food is good there, though. I really didn't interact with the staff, just the person showing me around. "

"Lutheran Homes is totally awesome. The place is phenomenal. They took care of my mother wonderfully. "

"The facility is very warm and clean. The caregivers genuinely care about the residents. My mother is very comfortable and they all call her by her first name and treat her like a family member. "

"My grandma was a resident at this community until she passed in March. She went from being at home very depressed after my grandpa died to partaking in activities and getting her spunk back after moving to New Hope Valley. We are so thankful for their amazing care and compassion. Every time I visited I was always welcomed with a smile. My grandma loved it there and would always talk about Vicki and how much she loved her! She always loved the food as-well. Her room was always kept clean and tidy! She would always say that she loved all the DCPs there too not just one but ALL of them. I am so thankful for the amazing care that was giving to my Grandmother and even when she was passing, especially during this Covid time, new hope valley went above and beyond to Accommodate our family! "

"My mother-in-law stayed here for a 30-day respite before going home after being in the hospital. Six months later she could no longer live alone. She chose to return to New Hope because none of the other communities she looked at came close to offering everything they do - from the theater to the dining to the activities. New Hope is an excellent community!"

"My husband is here. He is in memory care right now. It's a very caring place. It's very, very clean. There's always somebody in attendance. They have exercise classes, trivia games, card games, and music. It's very entertaining. The food is excellent. They have a bookcase with books but they do not have a chapel. It's nice that they almost don't allow them to stay in their rooms for meals. They come and get them and make sure they eat in the dining room so they can talk to somebody. In other words, they don't leave them alone."

"We decided that we are going to put my mother in Community Village. This is a Christian-based community. We like everything about it. The place was very nice. I didn't get the chance to taste their food but it looked good. The staff also was friendly. They were nice people. They have a 24-hour nurse there and that's very nice to have. I would recommend this community to others. "

"My mom is at Shields Comfort Care. She has a living room, an efficiency kitchen, a large bathroom, and decent bedroom. The staff are wonderful to her. The chef personally brings in the food to her. She has done her nails and hair as well on the community. They do a very nice job to her."
