Saginaw, Michigan, is a former industrial city that’s now slowly revitalizing. The region’s continental climate offers hot summers bracketed by mild spring and fall weather. In terms of sights and recreational activities, Saginaw offers many examples of late 19th century historical architecture and the Saginaw Art Museum, which is itself an example of the same architectural style. The city also has the distinction of being home to one of the most authentic Japanese tea gardens in the entire Midwest. The Saginaw Farmers’ Market is also a great place to visit for fresh groceries. Saginaw’s estimated 2019 population is 48,115, of whom 13% are 65 or older.
Despite its moderate size, Saginaw offers robust health care through three major hospitals inside the city’s compact geography. The larger two are Covenant Healthcare and Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. Home care and home health aide services cost an average of $4,576 and $5,148, respectively, according to the Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020. This is slightly above the national averages of $4,481 and $4,576 for the same types of care.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Saginaw area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

The agency provides help to Mom with things that she cannot completely do on her own. Such as giving her help in taking a shower, going for a walk, going down to play cards, helping her get changed or helping her put on her shoes. There are so many things that they help with there is not enough space to cover it all. The agency is very reactive to our requests, and the relationship between the caregivers in mom is fantastic.

Service started out great. Staff is very friendly. Been with the company about 8 months. Have had a few times when there was nobody to cover shifts. One time was told they could not find a replacement but found one after I called them and said he needed one. The last time I was not notified there would be no caregiver and dad was in his lazyboy all afternoon and night until the morning caregiver arrived. No dinner and not put to bed. Very frustrating that I was not contacted that there would be no caregiver as they know to do this. Unexceptable

I’m using HomeCare.com. It’s fine. They’re very good and very responsive to any concerns I have, and they’ve provided me with a good health care aide, not great necessarily, but good. They also provide light housekeeping, they help me clean myself up, and they take me to my appointment. They get here within a certain time window between 7 and 7:30, and that’s when I need them here. A lot of times my communication is directly with the aides. If she can’t come on a certain day, the agency would contact me to see whether I need some assistance or need somebody to fill me in on a given day. I think I’m paying more than I probably should because they have a mandatory number of days that I can contract for, and that’s probably more than I usually need. To maintain the contract, I have to keep them on a certain number of days.

My mother suffered a stroke in June 2015 and then went to Stratford for rehabilitation. Upon leaving Stratford it was apparent that she could not be left without assistance. Homewatch CareGivers took care of her and (my father) with grace and dignity. Whether conversing, cleaning or getting her up and around they were a blessing to have in our home. Each one of the caregivers was kind and gentle. Working with David was an uplifting experience to see how another human cares for someone unknown to them. Scheduling was flexible and I trusted with my mothers life. That means everything. Thank you to the whole staff. Julie

We have used Nothing But Us Care for my spouse, and they’re excellent. We were very pleased with the service that we got from them. They did just about everything we asked. The caregiver who came was willing to do anything we asked, including cleaning. Even though it’s hard work for me to ask, she wanted to be busy, so she volunteered to do whatever she could to help. She also cooked, did light cleaning every day that she was here, she was always available, very friendly, and very nice. We enjoyed having her here. They’re a smaller agency, so I spoke directly to one of the owners of the company. I thought they would be very responsive to what we needed, and that turned out to be the case.

They shower and dress him, they feed him, take him down his dinner, make his bed, and clean up the bathroom. The caregiver’s attitude has been good, the girls we use have been very good, and they’re reliable. If I knew anybody that needed a caregiver, I would probably recommend them.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – oftentimes it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
