Bay City is a small city near the shore of Lake Huron in Bay County, Michigan. This vibrant coastal town enjoys a humid continental climate of warm winters bracketed by mild spring and fall weather. Winters can be very cold, however. Bay City is regionally famous for the many annual summer festivals and events it hosts. Among these are the St. Stan’s Polish Festival, the Bay City Fireworks Festival and historical theatrical reenactments. The city also has a thriving downtown riverfront with numerous fine dining restaurants, boating events and antique stores. The 2019 U.S. Census-estimated population of Bay City sits at 32,717 residents, with 13.9% of them aged 65 or older, which is below the national average of 16.5%.
Access to quality medical care in Bay City is available through several medical facilities, the largest of which is Bay City Regional Medical Center. Homemaker services in Bay City cost an average of $3,909, while home health aide support is considerably pricier at $4,767, according to Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020 data. The agency provides help to Mom with things that she cannot completely do on her own. Such as giving her help in taking a shower, going for a walk, going down to play cards, helping her get changed or helping her put on her shoes. There are so many things that they help with there is not enough space to cover it all. The agency is very reactive to our requests, and the relationship between the caregivers in mom is fantastic.

One time was told they could not find a replacement but found one after I called them and said he needed one. The last time I was not notified there would be no caregiver and dad was in his lazyboy all afternoon and night until the morning caregiver arrived. No dinner and not put to bed. Very frustrating that I was not contacted that there would be no caregiver as they know to do this. Unexceptable

I’m using HomeCare.com. It’s fine. They’re very good and very responsive to any concerns I have, and they’ve provided me with a good health care aide, not great necessarily, but good. They also provide light housekeeping, they help me clean myself up, and they take me to my appointment. They get here within a certain time window between 7 and 7:30, and that’s when I need them here. A lot of times my communication is directly with the aides. If she can’t come on a certain day, the agency would contact me to see whether I need some assistance or need somebody to fill me in on a given day. I think I’m paying more than I probably should because they have a mandatory number of days that I can contract for, and that’s probably more than I usually need. To maintain the contract, I have to keep them on a certain number of days.

My mother suffered a stroke in June 2015 and then went to Stratford for rehabilitation. Upon leaving Stratford it was apparent that she could not be left without assistance. Homewatch CareGivers took care of her and (my father) with grace and dignity. Whether conversing, cleaning or getting her up and around they were a blessing to have in our home. Each one of the caregivers was kind and gentle. Working with David was an uplifting experience to see how another human cares for someone unknown to them. Scheduling was flexible and I trusted with my mothers life. That means everything. Thank you to the whole staff. Julie

We have used Nothing But Us Care for my spouse, and they’re excellent. We were very pleased with the service that we got from them. They did just about everything we asked. The caregiver who came was willing to do anything we asked, including cleaning. Even though it’s hard work for me to ask, she wanted to be busy, so she volunteered to do whatever she could to help. She also cooked, did light cleaning every day that she was here, she was always available, very friendly, and very nice. We enjoyed having her here. They’re a smaller agency, so I spoke directly to one of the owners of the company. I thought they would be very responsive to what we needed, and that turned out to be the case.

While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
