"My mother is in assisted living for the past year. She had a beautiful room with a view that was full of wildlife that she really enjoyed. The staff was excellent. They were so kind and loving to my mother. I'm so thankful that she was here in Candlestone. "

"Independence Village in Midland Michigan is a top notch retirement facility for our senior citizens. Rooms are very nice, but the highlight of this facility is the staff. Responsive, friendly, and willing to take that extra step all along the way to ensure the comfort of residents. We recently celebrated my parents 75th wedding anniversary at Independence Village. We worked with the staff, spearheaded by Katie, Becka, and Chef Karen, to make this a memorable event. They made suggestions along the way, and then carried out the entire event (actually 2 events......one for residents, then another a month later for family that included 11 Great Grandchildren!) flawlessly, with the Sou Chef dishing out the cake and ice cream after we all enjoyed a delicious meal! It was truly an event to remember. My siblings and I could not be happier with where our parents are now living........and have been now for over 8 years. "The facility has just gone through a beautiful renovation. It is lovely and so comfortable for the residents, The rooms are so comfortable having their own bathrooms and little kitchen areas. I did not eat there, but the food always smelled delicious and I know they gave the residents what they wanted and special treats. The staff were all so wonderful and caring to my sister-in-law while she was there. She was not always easy to care for, but they stayed on top of her needs. The had fun and creative activities for the residence, from music, doing their nails, tea parties, happy hour, and special crafts for holidays. There are outdoor places to sit and the staff often will have special activities or treats outdoors. Mt. Pleasant is a nice town with many restaurants and activities with the college right there."

"I visited my sister at Green Acres Mt. Pleasant and shared lunch with the people there and it was lovely. They were very welcoming with a very comfortable feeling. They gave lots of support. I had stew for lunch with a biscuit, a good salad, a lemonade, and chocolate cake. We asked a couple of people about maintenance and they said "Oh, you'll love him. He takes great care of everybody." At Green Acres Mt. Pleasant, you pay the price and that includes all the assistance. They have a patio and they were putting furniture out today. It was almost 70 degrees and sunny and warm. It was just wonderful. One of the biggest reasons why we chose them, was when you walk in, it looks homey. You walk down the hall and they have fake tall trees and ivy and stuff to make it look like you're walking down a boulevard."

"New Hope is a small community that houses about 20 elderly people. It is a privately owned center. There is always at least one staff member on duty. The owner is very active in the daily routine and maintenance of the home. The home is very well kept and brightly decorated. The staff explained to me that they tried to do a craft or visit the community center at least once a week with a group of clients. Each client has their own room with a bathroom and special bed that can be raised or lowered. I remember a client who was not very coherent and couldn't stand on her own. The staff helped her to the bathroom, helped her take a shower, and did many other things for her. The staff were very friendly to this client and treated her with a great amount of respect. Routine is very important to this center. All meals are served in the common dining area. If a client skips a meal, they are not allowed to have any snacks until the next meal is served. I thought that was a little harsh and demeaning. I could also tell that some of the clients were very bored. I sat with one client at a table and we talked about her family and children. Then we literally stared at the wall (it was painted into a raised texture) and looked for patterns or objects. Kind of like how you stare at clouds and look for things in them. Overall, the home seemed like a very pleasant place to live. "

"Applewood Assisted Living Facility is a great facility for most elderly or disabled people. Overall, the grounds are well kept and beautifully decorated. However, despite the landscaping being great, there are no pavilions or walking trails for residents to enjoy the outdoors in. In fact, there is very little outdoor space provided at all. A good thing about the facility, though, is the food. There is a pretty good selection of food and it is all pretty well prepared. It is not quite the normal assisted living facility food that you would expect, however it is nothing special either. The rooms are spacious and quite homey. Also, the facility is not as strict as some others, making it seem more like a living community than an assisted living facility. The nurses are also very friendly and skilled. They not only know what they are doing as far as medically, but they are great with keeping patients up to date with medication and being real friends to the residents. Overall, it is a pretty good facility. "

"Fountain of Love is only two miles from my house. They seem to be quite friendly. They have a deck and a really nice facility for showers and bathing in wheelchairs and a walk-in tub. Fountain of Love is a small place. My mother hasn’t actually moved in there yet. The staff came in and visited my mom twice and will move her Tuesday. Fountain of Love has a homey atmosphere. The residents seem pretty much at home. "

"I like Margaret's Meadows, and I might pick this place for my father if I need to. They have a large open area where people can watch TV. There were cards and puzzles out and things the residents could engage in. They make all the food fresh. It was good to know that they either have a blender available or something to make sure the food is soft, which was one of our concerns. I would rate them the highest; I was very impressed. I met with the owner and got introduced to some of the staff members. They were engaged during the meal time when I was there, and a lot of the staff was helping people sit down to eat. Everything was nice and clean, and the place looked warm."

"I personally want to extend my thanks to the management and all the Care Aide staff members for making my wife's 83rd birthday a very special day at your facility. My thanks to the staff who decorated the dining room with birthday banners, birthday signs, and birthday hats to make this an even more special day for my wife. I also wanted to thank the staff for the hospitality that they gave to my family members who attended this special day. I understand that several of the Care Aide(s) bought a birthday cake as well as a gift for her out of their own money, to make this birthday an even better special day. On behalf of myself and my family, thank you again for the compassionate care and love you gave my wife not only on this special day, but all the days she is in your care. I also wanted to note that during the 10 months my wife has been a resident here, the other residents who had a birthday all received the same type of support and care for their special day as my wife did, which clearly demonstrates the level of everyday compassionate care you have for all the residents in your care 24/7."

"My mother-in-law has moved in. We chose it because it was small and close to home. The cleanliness and upkeep are very good. They do games, bingo, crafts, and nails. I did not try the food, but my mother-in-law said it was very good. Their staff are wonderful. They have a beauty salon. I don't think they have an exercise room."

"The Horizon Senior Living is nice but outdated, has been there a long time, and a little dreary. It was also more money. The staff was very nice."

"Having volunteered and having a relative as a resident at this home, I can say that I have a positive view of this establishment. The interior is very clean, bright and friendly. Staff are mostly competent; however, a hiccup does occur every now and again. Masonic Pathways Senior Living Services are very flexible about allowing guests and volunteers in, which enhances the general environment. The care equipment seems to look near-new for everything that I've seen so far. The building is well-staffed, activities are planned for those looking for more, and animals are brought in to bring a smile to the faces of residents. Aside from sparse minor day-to-day errors, this is a quality living center. "

"McKellar Adult Foster Care is clean. They're very caring, and they have all home-cooked meals. They have rocking chairs on the covered porch, so you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. They have individual rooms with individual bathrooms. They have a room where everybody can congregate to watch TV or play games. They do games weekly. It's been so far a great experience. The staff is very caring. The room is large and holds all the stuff my mom needs, her bed, two chairs, a dresser, and her TV, and the bathroom is sufficient. The people that work there are very caring and very giving. They help her only with showers and sometimes with getting dressed. They do bingo, Euchre, and movie nights where they do movies and popcorn. It's a good value for money."

"My mother has dementia, so we picked Pioneer Golden Estates for her because you can go into assisted living and then they have a memory care unit. They seem to be very well-staffed and there's obviously more staff available per resident in the memory unit. They have two dining rooms, and soon they will have three. There are activities to be involved in, and a hair salon available with a hairdresser coming in two days a week."
