"I toured Brookdale Southfield. It had a very nice atmosphere, and it looked great. It had a lot of amenities. The food and everything were included. The laundry was included. It had a nice library, a game room, a movie room, an exercise room, a pool, a barber shop, and a hairdresser. They had a courtyard with a fire pit. They also had transportation services. The staff was very nice. She did a great job taking us around. The dining area was very nice. It was like a high-end restaurant. The studio room was small but nice and decent."

"This particular American House Village at Bloomfield has just opened on November 1st, so the building is beautiful, and the apartments are beautiful. However, they're not quite up to speed on everything they offer. Like they don't have a shuttle that goes anywhere and the shuttle is just for planned excursions. On a lot of things that I asked about, they were still in the works. They don't have everything implemented yet. We had a meal there, and their food was high quality. It was very good. The cook came out and talked to us about how he cooks and his style. He was very personable. It's a brand new building. However, a lot of services haven't been implemented yet."

"My mom moved to Golden Grace by Majestic Residences. They've been very caring. They're also very good at helping with the transition because we just moved there. The food was very good. There was no smell. Everything was clean and dusted. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large facility, but for a group home, it's laid our very well."

"I toured The James Ferndale. It was a good community. It offered everything you could think of. They had a chef that would prepare meals for you. They had a salon. They had a little doctor's office there. The staff was very pleasant, and the menu looked good. They have game day and a van that would take you places if you need transportation. They offered everything included in one price. It was still a little pricey for me, but it was a nice place."

"It was in my neighborhood. I liked that I wouldn't have to cook because I was a lousy cook. They had theme parties -- you know, get togethers for Valentine's Day and Saint Patrick's Day type of thing. When I was there, it was just basically a sit down, looking at a bedroom apartment plan, and then checking out the prices. Since, I saw the prices, it was way out of my budget. I loved their entrance. I thought it was very homey. It was like you were walking in someone's living room but with a lot more couches and chairs. It was very nice. I would love to see it when they decorated it for Christmas. They didn't invite me to have a meal there, but they gave me a whole apple pie from their kitchen. It was a homemade apple pie, and boy was that good. The person in charge was very knowledgeable. She was easy to talk to, and I liked her a lot. She was very nice, and she explained certain things to me. Sadly, I just couldn't afford it, but I would love to live there. They had cottages too, but that's way out of my price point. "

"It was very lovely. However, with my mother-in-law's Parkinson's, we needed a place that would cater a little more to some of the lifestyle changes we are expecting in the future. The apartments were very nice. Everyone was very understanding. They answered all our questions, and they seemed to be very concerned with the residents and their comfort. "

"At Magnolia by the Lakes, I saw the assisted living rooms on one side of the road and I saw the senior living on the other side. They said that we could have a senior living apartment on the third floor, which was a two-bedroom and I would love to have stayed there. I would like to have gone there. I did not have any food but the person who was kind of a salesperson told me that they don't really spare anything on their food and that they have good meals that occasionally they might even have steak or something special. She was kind of bragging about the owner too. This person was a physician and I was told that she used to own hospice centers around the United States or something and sold them. She had this place because she felt the seniors deserved to live very nicely. I like the philosophy of what I heard about her. I did not meet her though. There was a room on the 3rd floor that we could have had in the senior living section. My husband could live there and they said they could give him assisted living and that I could live there too. It's a 2-bedroom place but it was going to be around $10000 rather than $5,000 or $7,500. It was very, very lovely. The carpeting maybe was a little bit older, but it still was lovely and clean. It's 2 bedrooms and the kitchen is better than the kitchen in our house that we've lived in for 50 years. The cabinets were first class, nice countertops, the carpeting was like a lighter gray shade, which was nice, and a nice-sized area for the full washer and dryer. It has nice walk-in closets for the two bedrooms, the bathrooms were big and it has a lot of shelves or drawers in the cabinets. I loved it, it just costs too much. The person who helped me or showed me around was very pleasant, down to earth, and seemed very kind. I don't know what the experience would be if you lived there so I would skip the rating though because she was just a salesperson. I toured the assisted living side too and I felt it was a little bit dark. There's a room there where you can watch movies, and it had the amenities but to me, it seemed a little dated. I can't remember if it was red and gold but it kind of looked more like a hotel. I had a heavier feeling in there rather than light and cheerful. They showed me one room, which if I signed up right then and there, would be like $5000 but it was a very, very small room and it needed some updating. It just would not have worked for my husband. I also saw a nursing station there and there were a couple of nurses or assistants. I didn't talk to them, but I saw them working and taking care of patients in their rooms. The rooms, just by glancing at them, seemed crowded and older. Maybe the patients had been there for a long time. If I were living there, I think we would be quite happy because there is a nice balcony with a sliding door, and when you're on the balcony, there is a strip of houses kind of below you and you have a lake view. You would probably see boaters in the summer too."

"Park Place was very well done and proximity to the family that was in the area. There was a first floor apartment available exactly the right timeframe we needed one, and the staff I found impressive. It was a beautiful place. My experience with the staff was wonderful, attentive to the other residents, and they seemed very welcoming. The nursing staff was wonderful and very flexible. They have social activities, a Friday afternoon cocktail party where they have wine, beer, and soft drinks and are allowed to invite anyone they want, they have a theater area, bingo, arts, and crafts. The facility itself looks very much like a lovely condominium. "
