Barton Towers Co-op is located near downtown Royal Oak and is a 15-story, 210-unit senior community for affordable living ages 62 and over. A limited number of apartments are available for younger persons who are physically disabled and need the special features of a unit designed for the mobility impaired. Barton Towers is nationally recognized as "A Community of Quality" by the National Affordable Housing Management Association. The property was completed in 1983 and has been recently remodeled. Barton Towers is gradually transforming into a 100% smoke free co-op. While no one is allowed to smoke in any common area and within 25 feet of the building, there are approximately ten members who are still permitted to smoke in their own apartments because they signed a waiver prior to the full implementation of the new smoking rules. "I toured The James Ferndale. It was a good community. It offered everything you could think of. They had a chef that would prepare meals for you. They had a salon. They had a little doctor's office there. The staff was very pleasant, and the menu looked good. They have game day and a van that would take you places if you need transportation. They offered everything included in one price. It was still a little pricey for me, but it was a nice place."

"My mom moved to Golden Grace by Majestic Residences. They've been very caring. They're also very good at helping with the transition because we just moved there. The food was very good. There was no smell. Everything was clean and dusted. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large facility, but for a group home, it's laid our very well."

"My sister and brother-in-law moved to Baldwin House Hazel Park's independent living community. We chose it for its price and location. They're in a good-sized apartment. It's a single bedroom, it's clean, and it has a lot of windows and natural light. It has a full kitchen, a nice-sized bathroom, and a good amount of personal storage inside the apartment. This location does not provide meals itself. They use people from outside that the tenants deal with directly, and they'll bring the meals inside the building and deliver the, to the tenants. There are free washers and dryers on every floor. There are workout rooms and activity rooms. There is also a community computer with internet service. There's a self-service small store where you can get snacks and other items. The staff have also been very friendly and very helpful. There's an on-site medical office where the residents can get medical care. A doctor can visit them or provide rehabilitation services, as well as other related services. They could come into their room, but it's an outside contractor's stuff, and they have an office building there. It's not like a doctor's office, but more like an administrative room. There are also people on staff 24 hours, for a patient who has a need or an emergency. There is a dining area, but the food is not served there. They also have a movie theater room where they can watch movies."

"Parkside of Livonia was very impressive. It was clean. The people working in the office were excellent. The big deal was that it's three stories, and to be honest my wife was very paranoid after we got to the third floor, and she was wondering about how to get out if the elevators weren't working that well. Gabby was the one we had contact with. She was very informative and very friendly. There were two questions that she didn't know, so she went to somebody in the other office and got us an answer right away. She was tremendous. They don't have food. Every apartment has its own full kitchen. You can order food out. They eat at the same places we eat. They're only five miles away from my house right now, and they're only a mile away from my daughter's house. All in all, it was an ideal location. We could walk to my daughter's house and have a nice afternoon. They have common areas. There was nobody using them, but they were spotless. The carpeting was clean. The trash cans were empty. They have a game room and a movie theater room, and they were spotless. The room that they showed was empty, but it was fresh paint, well maintained, and clean carpeting."

"The rooms and living spaces are light, open and well thought out. The dining area is wonderful with a varied menu consisting of food service and from scratch recipes - both delicious, nutritious and creative. The activities along with the staff are the really the shining stars in this beautiful facility. They love their job and it shows in their smiles and caring. My parents are more engaged on a daily basis with other people, than they were in their house. There is ALWAYS something going on during my weekly visits. All the benefits of community with none of the worries that come with home ownership. All in all I give them 5 stars!!!"

"I like the staff at American House Troy. They're nice to my mother and us as a family. They are very courteous and concerned. The rooms are nice and big enough for a walker or a wheelchair. Cleanliness is really good. The food delivery is good. The meals appear to be very good, too, nutritionally based. The residents get a choice. Every day they can choose between one item or another item and my mother seemed to like the food there. They have a beauty salon and a dining room. They offer transportation if you want to go to a doctor's appointment or shopping trips if you want to go to a Myers. They have entertainment that they bring in. They have games and a little community area where a lot of residents can work jigsaw puzzles. They have a medical team on staff as well. Rent is kind of high, but overall considering the rent in other places and for what you get, it's way more."

"Park Place is very nice and it’s close to where I live so it’s very convenient. They took us around and showed us some rooms. The rooms were like little apartments and were very nice; you can bring in your own furniture. The staff was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information. "

"The facility in West Bloomfield is fantastic. and has exceeded all expectations. Staff is friendly, very accommodating and address all issues promptly. Residents order breakfast and dinner 7 days a week from a menu prepared daily by a chef and sous chef and served by courteous wait staff at your table. Daily life and activities at All Seasons WB is like being on al never ending luxury cruise. My family member is in her 90's and we wish she would have made the move years earlier. She has a new and active life."

"We went to American House Village at Bloomfield. It's a nice place, but it's not what we were looking for. The floor plan was a little small, but it was OK. They showed us the common areas and a one-bedroom apartment. The staff who assisted us and gave us the tour was very nice. The place was very clean."
