"My sister picked American House the Village Senior Living. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are well-maintained and clean. The food could be better and better served. They have room for improvement in that area. We go on trips to the local stores; they have a happy hour and an activities director who does cards and trivia questions, Bingo, and all that kind of stuff. "

"American House Stone was good. The lady who talked with us, the manager, Patti, she's been very good, exceptional. And we were pleased with the place all around. There was a Catholic church directly across from the location. They had the bus that would be able to take them to their doctor's appointments. And if they didn't make it to a dinner or lunch or breakfast, they would box it up and bring it to their rooms for no extra price. We just generally liked the place. When we were there the last time, there was a guitar player. Someone was playing a game on a chart with the residents. The staff members were very friendly. We met the housekeeper, we met the lady who does the laundry, we met the manager, and we met the gentleman who drives the bus. And they all were very friendly."

"Lockwood has senior apartments and you can choose from one, two or three bedrooms. Mom and dad have a beautiful two-bedroom apartment, they get one meal a day and they have their own kitchenette so they can cook in. Lockwood also offers the Med Team that takes care of their medical needs, bathing, housekeeping and laundry so they can be together. "

"It was clean, and they had a lot of that for the clients. I kind of got a good feeling there when I toured them. I had a tour with the physical therapist that worked there, and she was excellent. The building was all right. It was OK. Everything was good."

"I was very impressed even though I came in kind of unannounced. I had a tentative appointment, so I wasn't really expecting to have a tour. They did help me out a lot and showed me around. I wasn't in a good mood because my husband was in the hospital and not doing well. So I was kind of cranky, but they did really well. They even sent me home with a pie. The rooms and apartments were fine. They had different styles for different people's needs, but they were all fine. I was really looking for respite care, but I thought they were kind of expensive because there were a lot of add-ons like medications and administration. But I thought they were fairly good, and we'll be looking into them for respite care. The dining setup was fine. We were there during a meal, but I didn't see what the people were eating. They have been keeping in touch with me to see when I'm available to come and see them again and have my husband stay sometime for respite care. They are really good about it when I tell them I'm not ready. They say they'll call in a month or call in a few months, and they stick to that. They are not bothering me or anything, so I think they are doing well. So that is probably what we are going to look into when he needs to stay there for a few weeks. "

"My dad is a resident of Flourish Collection at Rochester. What I like most about it is that the location is two miles from our house. It is set in a beautiful Rolling Hills Community and it has an active lifestyle for an aging population and there are quite a few activities. An overarching experience that we have had is that anything that needs addressed is done in a very expeditious way. The staff is fantastic and personal. They know my dad, and they know me by name. They are always available and ready to help. He lives in an independent ranch home, two-bedroom, two full bath, garage, laundry room, kitchen, family room, and lanai. It has new carpet, fresh paint, and luxury vinyl flooring. It does have safety pull cords and a daily check-in system that if he has not personally checked in, they will follow up and go to his unit and check in on him. There might have been slight variations as having a corner end unit versus a middle unit. They offer valet and chauffeur service. There's music, which my dad really enjoys. They have a pool, a clubhouse, bocce, pickleball, and hot tub that is available to any of the residents to reserve individually or enjoy as a community. They also have onsite healthcare. There are in-home visits by a nurse practitioner on a weekly basis every Monday, which is fantastic. They have in-home podiatry care, which is every other month and they do feet and hands. They offer vision care and they have hearing aid appointments. They have in-home dental care as well. My dad doesn't have a dog, but I see that they have a little van that pulls up to groom and wash and care for your dog. There are quite a few residents that have dogs that I've seen. He has had in-home physical therapy as well, which is fantastic. You're not running around town trying to coordinate that and as a family member/caregiver/helper, it allows me to still raise my family while knowing that he's cared for there. The community director gave me access to communicate with him and he is always available. If there is a problem, it's addressed immediately. It does feel more personal than it does a machine or a corporation. My son and the community director's son were playing against each other at a local high school baseball game and the community director came down to my car and got my dad out of the car and helped him walk up to the game. It's personal. It's not just a business. They care and they want to help make their golden years comfortable and enjoyable and special for them. My dad does go to the dining room on occasion."

"My mom moved to Golden Grace by Majestic Residences. They've been very caring. They're also very good at helping with the transition because we just moved there. The food was very good. There was no smell. Everything was clean and dusted. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large facility, but for a group home, it's laid our very well."

"My mother in law, my father and my step mother have all resided at Independence Village White lake. The care they received was exceptional. The apartments are large and comfortable. My dad and step mom had a condo in Mexico and when they moved in I asked him if the apartment was as nice as their condo. He got all teary eyed and said it was much nicer! The food it outstanding, over the 7 years we've had family there we shared many wonderful meals with them for holidays. The staff is the very best - they don't have a lot of turnover and they develop a relationship with the residents. They were all treated with respect and affection (and my father could be challenging!). I can't recommend them highly enough. "I am currently living at All Seasons West Bloomfield. The place is only 10 years old. It's been a very pleasant apartment. I don't partake in any activities. I am more of a recluse. But they have a pretty good chock full of activities. I feel okay here. I feel safe. I have dinner partners. The room is very adequate for a single person and I wouldn't need any more space."

"Rolling Hills Retirement Community is a brand new place, and it's beautiful. It's not fully occupied. They have everything you would want. They have three meals a day. It's beautifully appointed and my friend is very happy there. It was very, very nice. I just don't think it's worth $50,000 a year. It's $4200 a month with three meals, housekeeping, and beautifully appointed rooms with a full kitchen, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances. I have nothing against it. It's just I couldn't give up my condo and go to that. It's 55 and up, so this is for people who are independent. I only met two people, and they were very kind and very warm. What I liked is they have a lady who lives there permanently, so there's always someone there at night. They were going to start a home health care company on the premise, so if you would need physical therapy or if you need someone to stay with you, you can hire them. It's a very, very well-organized company. I ate and the food was very good. They have maybe 50 to 60 people now and they hope to have it filled by the end of the year. It's very well appointed. They have staff there 24 hours a day. They have a maintenance man on call if you need somebody. They have a chef and he comes to the table and asks you if the food is good. It's all cafeteria-style, so you have to go up and get your food. They will have a sit-down later on for the main meal. I can't complain about anything. They have a room to watch movies. You have individual leather chairs and they have meetings in that room about the facility. It's beautiful. It's very, very nice, but it's not for me."

"I got a chance to visit, and it was very nice. The lady who accommodated me was very informative. She was very knowledgeable about the place. She showed us around, and the facility is very nice and very clean. The rooms were very nice too. Their activities were very good. They have arts and crafts. They have a movie theater for them to see movies. They have a list of activities, and I like that. The residents that I saw where just comfortable and laid back. If I can sum it up, it had a very positive effect on me. "

"The apartments are American House of Southfield area large and I like it. We had lunch there and I like the food. The people that were there were very friendly and very helpful. What my uncle didn’t like was the look of the lobby. It was not as cheerful to him. The staff was very pleasant and very professional. The people who interviewed us and took us on a tour were very professional and very informative. It was lunch time when we went there so the main activity that we saw was them serving lunch, but that particular day they had a birthday party for someone and everybody that was at lunch was invited to it. They told us the activities that they have like outings, arts and crafts, physical activity, and a lot more. "

"Our experience having my great uncle at Brookdale Southfield so far has been very good, and we're pleased. We pretty much like everything. The community is great, and everybody is pretty much active there. I like the fact that they can age in place, so they have assisted living services and home healthcare services. I also love the fact that they have a lot of activities in-house, but they also have a lot of outings. In fact when you go in, you can see people making it like their home. There are always people sitting out and having a conversation, there are people outside, or in the library, and doing arts and crafts. The citizens seem to like the activities that they have going on. The staff is amazing. They know my voice even when I call, and if anything is wrong they call me. I like the fact that there's a doctor and nurses on-site."

"Pine Ridge Villas of Shelby was very nice. The staff was very accommodating, personable, and professional. However, the kitchen facilities were small, and they did not have an in-room washer and dryer. They have a library, card tables, gathering rooms, and exercise rooms."
