Nursing home costs in a semiprivate room in Orange Park equal about $8,213, which is less expensive than the Florida median of $8,654. Nursing homes offer around-the-clock care to residents who have relatively serious medical needs but who do not need hospitalization. For seniors who don’t require nursing home care, assisted living and home aides are options. Assisted living gives seniors a sense of community and independence, while home health care provides basic medical care to seniors who choose to age in place.
Seniors and their families can use this guide to find valuable resources and details on the different types of care costs in Orange Park.

Life Care Center at Wells Crossing was excellent. I had no complaints about staying in that place. The only problem with them was that they don’t have very many private rooms, and you have to have a doctor requested. Otherwise, you end up in two to a room. They also have a chef that just loves to put spices and everything and not everybody likes to have spices put into their peas or carrots or even their mashed potatoes.
Other than that, the things that they do for their residents were the whole nine yards. They have an activities room and a day room where they do a lot of activities They play bingo, do a lot of trivia, and play mini-games that would help increase your coordination and ability to function. They have reading, movies, and even an ice cream parlor that you can go to on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Plus, it’s free. Another thing is you can notify the kitchen that you want to have dinner with somebody and they will make an extra plate for that person. So, they encourage the family to participate.

I am a resident at vivo and am having a very positive experience here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and also very helpful. The food is not the best but it is not bad. Most of the nurses are well above average and add alot of value to the facility. There are many CNA s that are extremely helpful and friendly.
The physical therapy department is at least average and well managed by friendly staff .
I have been at several other facilities and this one stands out in the crowd. Vivo is a good choice for your loved ones. It seems the poor reviews have no experience with other SNF"s let’s face it no one wishes to be in any facility. All round Vivo is a nice place to live and I am in no way compensate for this review

Staff turn over is a problem.
Finally, changes in medication is NOT conveyed to family.

I have a friend that has been in signature of orange park since February. Needless to say, they went o. Lock down I. March. Very little has been done to make this lock down easier on residents.
Then in late June members of the staff started testing positive for Covid. By mid July 35 staff members had tested positive and also infected an equal number of residents. Is this poor training or just they plain don’t give a damn? The residents that became positive were removed from their already isolated rooms and placed in the Covid wing. They were only allowed to take what they were wearing and cell phone or tablet. All other belongings were bagged up and put in an outside storage. My family member has been in the Covid wing for nearly a month. Still has not gotten a shower. This is not right

My brother was put at The Terrace of Jacksonville for rehab. He is supposed to be on a regular diet, and they kept bringing an engineered diet. His room is just average. When you call for a nurse, sometimes it’s an hour and a half before anybody shows up. I came in Tuesday afternoon at 1:00, and he was laying on the floor. A nurse’s aide had spilled water all over the floor so when he was getting out of his bed to get to his wheelchair, he slipped. He lay there for over 20 minutes. He had called for a nurse twice. No one came. When I got there, the nurse’s station was right outside his room and I told them that he was lying on the floor. Of course, the help then started coming in. They gave me no explanation. They just got him back up into bed and changed his clothes. That was unsatisfactory and the level of care there is just almost nonexistent. I have had trouble communicating with the people and I go over there at least every day. The physical therapy seems to be good though, but other than that, the overall care is a 1 rating at best.

Life Care Center of Jacksonville took my husband when he was turned down by other people because he has true celiac disease, and it required a special diet. Their dietitian did a fantastic job and even made him some desserts herself. They even changed the bouillon. He was there for 29 days. They had to literally teach him how to feed himself and teach him how to walk again. He had forgotten everything. Because he was a two-person transfer, celiac was the big thing, but they did a fantastic job. He did not get sick a single time. The staff just didn’t always come when we called.
My husband improved to the point that they told me he had to come home or he had to be registered as a full time because this was all Medicare type thing, so I opted to bring him home and we’re doing fine. The food, in general, for being celiac and everything, he never complained and he ate everything. The dietitian over there went above and beyond. The facilities were great. Rehab was wonderful. He had a private room, and it was nice and clean.

It’s very nice and I’m very satisfied with all the medical and other care that she is getting. The staff are very nice and they are good with what they do. Mom is in a room for two and it’s pretty good for her. She is happy with the food. The dining area is big and it opens out to a screened porch, it’s very nice and appealing. With their activities, they have the normal stuff like bingo, entertainment, religious services; pretty varied.

Just walking through the place, they have plenty of rooms, plenty of aides, and they have entertainment for the residents, so they’re not just sitting in their rooms all day. The rooms were double rooms and there is a curtain separating the bed, so you don’t have to see everything your roommate was doing. They have showers that they can just wheel you in with a shower chair. There are some private rooms. The staff was very nice and understanding and they know it’s hard when you have to do this with a parent or with anybody. They have bingo, they have a beauty shop, they have physical and occupational therapy, and they have groups that come in and sing to them.

The staff at this facility seemed very friendly and helpful towards the residents. I witnessed several students from a nearby private Catholic school also partake in activities with several of the residents. The students were singing a wide variety of songs and playing games using balloons with the residents of the facility. I also saw several games set up for the residents such as checkers and parchisi. I also saw several drawings done for the residents which were probably also done by some of the students from the private school. The exterior of the facility seemed very welcoming, and the landscaping on the exterior appeared to be very well attended to. The interior seemed very spacious, especially in the recreation area, which was where I was most of the time. Overall, I feel that this is a good facility where the staff genuinely care about the residents. I would definitely say that it was a favorable environment, although I have not really visited any similar facilities anywhere before.

Signature HealthCARE of Middleburg is a good place. Every room here is a private room, so you don’t share a room with anybody else. There is a hall set aside for bariatrics. Half of the facility is for people coming in from surgeries or injuries and are trying to get back on their feet, while the other half of the facility is a residence facility, for residents that are here permanently.
They have therapy rooms here (but they can work with the residents in their room if they can’t come down), excellent food (they accommodate the diets that are recommended for them by the doctor), and good nursing care (the CNAs are excellent and they’re usually right here right away when you call them). They provide church services here, too.
They do your laundry and return it. They have a lot of activities here. They have board games, regular games (such as bingo), music, and making jewelry or outfits that you want to make. They provide everything for you that you could want or need.

My grandmother is at Palm Garden of Jacksonville for rehab. When they go to her room for rehab, they don’t just let her say no and just sit there. They encourage her to get up and do her rehab. Every time I’ve gone there, she’s been clean and getting her therapy. I’m really impressed by them. The only issue we had was that the telephone and television in her room weren’t working. My grandmother has been enjoying the food. The facility is nice and clean. It doesn’t have any smells. I think the price is kind of steep for an elderly person who doesn’t get much finances, but maybe they can help or get another type of insurance or something to help out with that.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Orange Park, FL
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
