Fouraker Hills Rehab and Nursing Center

My father has been in Fouraker Hills Rehab and Nursing Center for four months now. It was the only one that opened its doors for him. The security that they have there will be the best that I have liked. It is actually closed in, so there are no gates. They cannot get out of that facility even if they wanted to. They have a beauty salon/barber shop, but they have to pay for that. So far, the nurse's aide has been grooming him, and we have not had to pay. The care is getting better than at the beginning. At the beginning, he was having falls, and we were not being informed, and we would go there, and all of a sudden, we would see him all bruised up and everything. That was taken care of because I took action. There are ups and downs. Some staff are wonderful. They have the knowledge to handle situations like with people with Alzheimer's. There are others that, if you go there, you see them all the time on the phone, and that bothers me a lot. For the most part, the majority of the staff take care of the patients. He's not eating much, but it's just him. We go there every day, and I believe the food is pretty good. The outside looks great. Everything inside needs to be thrown away and replaced. It's pretty deteriorated, the furniture, the wheelchairs, all of that. It's really, really, bad. Most of the time, they just have the patients sitting in a room, basically watching TV or with puzzles. I don't see any other activities being done.

My mom has been placed at West Jacksonville Health. At that time when we were looking for a facility, they were primarily available. They were able to show us that they are very caring. The facility is close to our home and it really worked out for us. The place is very welcoming and always clean. It's very nice and I'm very satisfied with all the medical and other care that she is getting. The staff are very nice and they are good with what they do. Mom is in a room for two and it's pretty good for her. She is happy with the food. The dining area is big and it opens out to a screened porch, it's very nice and appealing. With their activities, they have the normal stuff like bingo, entertainment, religious services; pretty varied.
