Independent Living Communities in West Chester, OH

"My mother is in StoryPoint Fairfield. The staff is wonderful. They are loving and caring individuals, taking care of my mother. She moved from independent living where she had a one-bedroom apartment and now she's in assisted living which is just one room with a bathroom and it's always well maintained. The bathroom is always clean when I go to see her and it is bright, it has a window, and it gets a lot of light. She seems to be very happy there. They have an activities director that is just amazing. She reminds me of the Love Boat. She's got activities scheduled for them every day of the week. They do exercising, they do movies, they go off campus to activities, they take tours, and they do art. Every time I go into her room, there's a different art project that she's worked on sitting out in her room. They play bingo. It's just constant. They go into the bistro where they have singers come in and worship groups from churches. It's such a well-rounded activity list that she can participate in, or she can choose not to, but what I liked and why we moved her from the independent living to the assisted living was that she wouldn't engage herself and go out and find things to do where she is now, someone comes, knocks on her door, and says, "Hey, we're getting ready to do such and such, you want to come?" and that encourages her to say, "Yes, I'll come." So, she's getting out of the room. They have a courtyard that's protected because some of those people do have memory issues, so they have an area where they can go outside and get sunshine or a family member can come and take them and walk around the outer portion of the campus. They have that inner portion where they also have a garden where they can work. There's an activities room that they have the movies and so forth shown. Then they have an area outside the nurse's station where they have the TV going and there's an aquarium so it's relaxing and they can see whatever's on the TV monitor. There is a physical therapy section. Right now, my mom is getting physical therapy twice a week. They have a lady that can come in and she does their nails. She can get your hair done. All of the nurses and the aides are just wonderful people and my mom really likes them. So, that means that they're communicating with her and she's communicating back with them. It's like she is their grandmother and they take that kind of care of her. I could not have been happier."

"I visited the independent living community of The Summit of Blue Ash, and I liked it a lot. It's just that their 1-bedroom with a den is not really a 1-bedroom with a den. It was more of a 1-bedroom with a small corner that you could do something in. It wasn't even a room, but just like a larger closet. My siblings are literally down the road from where the facility is, so it's convenient for all of them. I like that it's centrally located. The facility is brand-new, so it's nice inside. Meals are all included, but they have a full-size kitchen in the rooms. They also have room for a dining room table and a living room area. I would prefer to have their 2-bedroom apartment because I want an office that is also a sewing room, so that's what I need the second bedroom for. If my kids also come, I have a second bed that they can sleep in. Even though the facility provides an apartment-type thing that they could stay in, that's on a first-come, first-served basis, so if somebody else has it reserved at the same time, then one would get it, and one would not."

"We visited the independent living community of Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community, and we liked it. It was spacious, and everything was clean and nice. The other places we looked at were too crowded. This is more of what we were looking for. The staff members were friendly and knowledgeable. The day we were there, they were closing early, so we didn't have food, but they gave us food vouchers to come back if we wanted to. They also had all the amenities we wanted, like a pool and all that stuff."

"I appreciate that the staff worked around my schedule for this tour. They showed us the various community areas, the dining area and a 2-bedroom apartment. Overall, this place is clean, the facility feels open, is easily accessible and everyone we met, including some of the residents we talked to, were friendly. The rooms were massive and well organized. A lot of the apartments had decorated doors, and they had soft benches in every hallway. I also noticed that they had activity calendar and announcements posted for the whole month. My mom really likes this place and was chatting up the staff throughout the tour."

"I toured Seasons. I felt like I was in a country club. You walk in and there's this huge atrium that goes up how many stories. Everybody was very well dressed. I felt like it was kind of a country club community, but very nice and very new. Wow! The only problem with it was that they did not have any two-bedroom units available. We could not even see a two-bedroom unit. We didn't get a feel for what the two-bedroom would have been like, although I saw the floor plan and I liked it, but it wasn't available. But it's gorgeous. It's beautiful. The place was spotless and immaculate. Everything was new."

"Aaron's Garden Senior Living & Memory Care was beautiful. It was great. There was nothing wrong with the community, but we wanted a single apartment for my father. We did not want a bedroom where he would walk out into the hallway. It was a beautiful setup. He loved it as far as if he was at that point to go there at a different time, yes, but not at this stage in his life. The people during the tour were very pleasant. It's very clean. The common areas were very pleasant."

"Traditions of Lebanon is a lot nicer than the other place. I am kind of considering it. It's a smaller community, but it basically has everything you need. It is like a neighborhood or like suburbia with independent quarters, but they are like condos, and you are renting the space. One of the best parts is that they have attached garages, minimal kitchens, and nice little patios. They have a community clubhouse, and then they have the main building where you would go for meals and stuff if you want to. They charge extra for the meals, though. I think there were many meals a week included with your rental, and then you could add more meals if you wanted. The community was all walkable. They had nice sidewalks around the area. They even had a garden area, which was kind of nice. The only discount to that would be that they didn't have additional levels of living. It was strictly independent. I don't remember being totally impressed with the dining area, but it was nice. They occasionally have barbecues and things like that, and they have a nice gathering area there, too."

"Traditions at Camargo was a lovely community. The people were very personable and very helpful. The facility was excellent, and it looked great. The apartments looked very nice, very roomy, and very clean, and I think that it would probably be a good place to live. It had a refrigerator, a microwave, and a dishwasher. The dining area was beautiful. I met the chef and he seemed very nice. I liked the fact that they open at 7 in the morning and they close at 6, but you could go down there any time in between and get something to eat. They also had a place where you could get coffee, juice, and snacks at any time. The staff who assisted me with the tour was very lovely and very personable. The ones that I met were very helpful and concerned about how I was being treated."

"We toured The Kenwood by Senior Star. They were excellent. We had lunch there. It was delicious. It was a very beautiful place, you could see beautiful views of downtown. The people were extremely efficient. The gal who showed us around was extremely professional, efficient, knowledgeable, and very thorough. The rooms were very nice."

"I will move into Northgate Park. I've been there two or three times, and everybody has been friendly and accommodating and answers all your questions. One thing I liked about it was that because I'd lived in this neck of the woods for decades, I'd never even heard of the place. The gal said, "We rarely have any openings. In other words, we don't have to advertise. People go there, and they stay." The staff was very informative. I only had a lunch meal, but it was a hot meal. It was homemade. Two things they have: gluten-free and low salt, so all that is good for elderly people. The other menus have a variety and not just the same old thing. They're remodeling the room, new bathrooms, and everything in them. So, it should be top-notch when I get there."

"The Grove memory care unit at Ohio Living Llanfair provided excellent care for my mother. The food was very good. Activities were scheduled every day. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and respectful to residents. Personal care needs were addressed in a timely manner. The grounds outside has multiple seating areas with flowers, trees, a gazebo - very pleasant for visiting."

"See the rooms. The staff and all the residents are great. There are several things to see: Rooms, dining area, piano, big TV room, laundry, exercise room, meeting rooms and calendar of events."

"My brother is staying at Blue Rock Senior Living. There are very few residents there. My brother said the food is just tolerable. He says sometimes it's not that good, but he gets plenty of food. The room is very small, but he's making the best of it. I think they keep it very clean. The TV system that they have is Roku, so my brother cannot watch any Reds or Bengals games on his TV, and that's probably the biggest improvement they could make. There's one lady there who's been very helpful to him. She helped him set up his computer and other things. They do my brother's laundry once a week. They clean his room once a week. They have a stairlift, but it's very slow. Their courtyard and patio are very good. They have a very small library, so my brother goes to the public library."

"I toured The Village at Eastgate. What I liked best was the staff and the cleanliness of the facilities. It was very clean and nice, and they took a lot of pride in making sure the apartments were ready for move-in. They had a senior workout facility and storage. Everybody had storage in the basement. They had a place for their dining restaurant area. They had the travelling to take them shopping, weekly concerts, church, Bible study, and movie nights. The activities that they offered were phenomenal. The menu was very diverse. There were a lot of options, and you didn't have to have the same thing every day. It was like going to a restaurant. You could pick whatever you wanted to eat, and then they would make sure that you had that."
