Independent Living Communities in West Chester, OH

"We visited StoryPoint Fairfield's independent living a couple of weeks ago. The facility was clean and well-kept, and the staff appeared to be very friendly and very welcoming. The food was very tasty. They have a library, they have activities in the main area, a restaurant like a bistro, and a coffee shop. We looked at one of the larger rooms, and we loved it. It was very roomy and spacious, and it would very adequately support someone."

"I visited the independent living community of The Summit of Blue Ash, and I liked it a lot. It's just that their 1-bedroom with a den is not really a 1-bedroom with a den. It was more of a 1-bedroom with a small corner that you could do something in. It wasn't even a room, but just like a larger closet. My siblings are literally down the road from where the facility is, so it's convenient for all of them. I like that it's centrally located. The facility is brand-new, so it's nice inside. Meals are all included, but they have a full-size kitchen in the rooms. They also have room for a dining room table and a living room area. I would prefer to have their 2-bedroom apartment because I want an office that is also a sewing room, so that's what I need the second bedroom for. If my kids also come, I have a second bed that they can sleep in. Even though the facility provides an apartment-type thing that they could stay in, that's on a first-come, first-served basis, so if somebody else has it reserved at the same time, then one would get it, and one would not."

"We toured Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community. It's user-friendly. It's just going to be more comfortable for me. The people are extremely nice and extremely helpful. It's a group of buildings. I'll have my own front door that walks outside instead of opening my front door and being in a hallway. We met some people as we were walking through looking at the place, and they were very friendly and immediately started talking to me, and gave me some tips on people to call and ask questions from."

"The staff was very much accommodating at Waterford. We had breakfast there, and we even had a deposit on an apartment. It is not an assisted living facility, but it does have a lot of amenities that are assisted, like, they do your laundry, they provide three meals a day, and transportation anywhere you want to go. There's always somebody there 24/7 and a full-time nurse, 8 to 10 hours a day. My husband is the one that really needs the assistance. So there's always somebody there if he would fall or someone to help him up. We like the rooms. It's kind of what we wanted. It's also right in the neighborhood where three of my children live. I like the walking area around the facility. "

"My in-laws were here for a short stay and had a marvelous experience. From the food to activities and the caring staff it was a great stay all around. Would definitely recommend it."

"Aaron's Garden Senior Living & Memory Care was beautiful. It was great. There was nothing wrong with the community, but we wanted a single apartment for my father. We did not want a bedroom where he would walk out into the hallway. It was a beautiful setup. He loved it as far as if he was at that point to go there at a different time, yes, but not at this stage in his life. The people during the tour were very pleasant. It's very clean. The common areas were very pleasant."

"Traditions of Lebanon seemed brand new. The staff who gave the tour was excellent. They have a standalone apartment. It's beautiful. It has a garage. It's very well decorated. It's a living room, a nice bedroom, and a good kitchen. It's pretty. They have transportation. They have full-service kind of thing. It's very nice."

"My mother-in-law was in Traditions at Camargo. It was fantastic. She started out independent, and then went to the highest amount of assisted living that they had. It's a beautiful facility. Everything is new, and it's in excellent shape. The staff there is very nice, and she received excellent care. They have their own chef, and the food is fantastic. They have regular outings, live music, a daily happy hour, and a library."

"My wife has been in the same facility for the last five years. She's in The Kenwood by Senior Star, and she's going to be there for the duration. The administrative staff is pretty good. There's quite a bit of turnover in the help. My wife is now up on the third floor. She was in the memory care unit for the first three years, and then they moved her up one floor to the skilled nursing unit because her condition has deteriorated. She can't walk and she can't talk. However, it seems to me that I see new caregivers in there almost every time I go in. They seem OK, but there's just a lot of turnovers. My wife has a nice room. It's a first-class room. It has a separate bedroom, a huge bathroom, and two TVs that are permanently mounted on the wall. One TV faces her, so can watch her when she's in bed, and the other one is in the living room. Her room has a little sink, so it is a very nice room. The food is very good. They serve a completely balanced meal, and every meal is well prepared. I have no complaints about that at all. Well, I pay $15,000 a month to have my wife in the facility, so it's not cheap. I've looked at some other facilities and I could probably save $5000 a month but I have to move her, and I prefer not to do that right now. In terms of day-to-day everyday caregiving people, because there's so much turnover, I'd be more comfortable if they were the same people most of the time. You would think that the core of the caregiving staff would be consistent week after week, but it's not in this case, and that may be the case with all of these kinds of facilities. They do bring in activities. A lady comes in and leads the group in singing, and sometimes they have people read to the group when they get everybody to sit down in the common area. They have a nice sort of a garden area where there's a lot of sun coming in. There's an inside version of that and then there's an outside version, so they don't have to go outside the building, they could stay on their floor and still, they can get outside a little bit. I would rate the facilities, first class, all the way."

"They toured us around at Atria Northgate Park. It seemed a nice enough place. We saw the dining area, and it looked nice. The rooms were also nice. "

"Ohio Living Llanfair is clean and there are a lot of amenities. It's probably the best value for what you get and it's one of the nicest facilities I've visited. Their apartment is freshly painted with new carpet, and it's conveniently laid out for somebody who is a little bit mobility impaired. Everybody was very friendly and professional. There's an exercise room, all kinds of art classes, a library, group activities, and outings. As far as independent living goes, there's a lot of flexibility to make some minor add-ons for somebody who's not quite ready for assisted living, but needs a little bit of help now and again. So, it's independent living with a plus."

"I first visited Pinebrook when my husband and I just "dropped by" one afternoon. Although we didn't give them any advance notice, the staff members were very friendly and went out of their way to show us the facility. At the time, we were looking at retirement options for my elderly parents, and Pinebrook seemed to offer the best services at a reasonable price. They have been residents there since April, and my main regret is that we didn't relocate them sooner, since there are so many social and learning opportunities they could have taken advantage of. The Pinebrook employees are exceptional in their personal contact with the residents, and I highly recommend that interested parties contact Aimee for a personal tour. "

"My brother is staying at Blue Rock Senior Living. There are very few residents there. My brother said the food is just tolerable. He says sometimes it's not that good, but he gets plenty of food. The room is very small, but he's making the best of it. I think they keep it very clean. The TV system that they have is Roku, so my brother cannot watch any Reds or Bengals games on his TV, and that's probably the biggest improvement they could make. There's one lady there who's been very helpful to him. She helped him set up his computer and other things. They do my brother's laundry once a week. They clean his room once a week. They have a stairlift, but it's very slow. Their courtyard and patio are very good. They have a very small library, so my brother goes to the public library."

"I like The Village at Eastgate. It looks clean. They have nice-sized rooms. It's a nice community. The lady that gave me an interview and the tour were very nice. They were helpful."
