"Meadow Brook Senior Living was nice. The atmosphere and the overall layout of the place were nice. I liked the director. She took so much time with me and helped me through a lot of things granted the cost is prohibitive at this point. The staff has very much given all the information I needed and was just very courteous and took the time to walk me through everything. I like the one-on-one care and it just seemed to be top-notch. They had a workout room and a salon. They had pretty much everything."

"We liked the fact that Sycamore Reserve is just independent living. My grandmother will be 101 this weekend, but she can still take care of herself, so we didn't want for her to be in a community where she will be forced into assisted living based on her age. We don't feel like she's going to be ready for that. Every time I'm there, and I've been there multiple times, I've had very positive experiences. The residents were really friendly, and that's one thing we didn't get from other places. They would come up and talk to us. They even crashed the meetings that I had with their director, and that's really cute. The apartment we chose was a studio because she doesn't walk very well. We thought a smaller space would be better, but their studios were very spacious and very affordable. She's on a budget, and it's well below her budget. I didn't eat their food, but I like the way that it's set up. It's like a restaurant: you go in, you order from a menu, and it's cooked to order. They allow pets, too, and several dogs live there. To me, that's pretty welcoming because every time I walk in there, they have lots of very well-behaved dogs in the lobby. It's a very welcoming atmosphere. They're very accommodating, and they have all the amenities that we wanted for my grandma and more. They have a swimming pool, a gym, and a theater. They have a lot of activities; it's very busy there. It's extremely clean. They were working on several of the apartments, they're doing a lot of updates, and they're working on the one we picked for my grandmother. It's going to be customized; they're going to customize her bathroom and her living space. Everything will be practically brand new. Her kitchen will have a gorgeous, brand-new, stainless-steel refrigerator, and it was exceptional. I really like it there. They remember me, and I'm not even living there, but every time I go in, they all say "hi." They're all very welcoming. On the first visit I met not only their general director, but I actually met the owner, too. He was very nice and very accommodating. I also met their activities director and their chefs. They're all very welcoming and very warm, and I felt like they were very excited about my grandmother coming. I've had to reschedule some meetings, and they never had a problem with it."

"Northridge Gracious Retirement Living is very elegant and brand-new. Unfortunately, my mom did not want to move in there because of the cost of the rooms, and they are individual rooms and not apartments. They're not self-sufficient for someone like her. They have the main dining room, where everybody comes down to eat, which was more like an assisted living/nursing home-type situation. My mom is still quite independent, and she doesn't want to get in to what would be considered more of a social setting. If you can't come down to dinner, service is provided to bring dinner to you. That left us to believe that there is no personal cooking facility. The dining room was very elegant, very open, and it's right there inside. There's a huge foyer as you first walk in that had a big seating area, and you can see the dining room off to the side. Plus, Fishers Area is the higher end of town. "

"Zionsville is less than a mile from my house so I moved mom there. I think the staff is okay, some are wonderful and I think they’re attendant to her needs. The building has a big expensive lawn near it. Mother’s room overlooked a little sitting garden. I checked on the food and she’s given three hot meals a day and she does have her choice of two main dishes every meal. She likes the food. They do have plenty of opportunities for snacks. They have activities and they keep her very much engaged. They have bus trips, Bingo, crafts and a little cooking class. They have exercise three times a week. For improvement, they can use a fresh paint, new carpeting and wall paper. They are doing a nice job but I think the building is a little dated and needs to be upgraded. "

"My mother chose Hamilton Trace. She used it because there are washers and dryers in the room, and that’s the only reason. She is 94, and I think she does a tiny little bit of washing everyday and I don’t know what she washes. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t see a lot of residents wheeling about like the other places. I think most of their activities were on the second floor, so we didn’t see a lot of people because they are on the second floor than on the first floor like the places, so it’s hard to judge, but the rooms were nice, and they had plenty of activities. We saw people going out to activities, but the reason my mother selected it is because of the washer and dryer and the cost was right. It was newer than the other two, and I don’t think it had as much homey feeling as the other two, but then that was me. "

"I liked the staff and the facilities at American Village. The location was not the best. I think that was one of the deciding factors. It's near the inner city of Indianapolis, and we would rather have something up further north. They have a salon, a gym, and a library. It looks out over a lake. It had a very nice view. The place was very clean."

"We're very happy with Independence Village Fishers South. We went up there one day, we had lunch with my aunt, and the food was good, and all the attendants that worked there were very friendly and very helpful. A situation arose with one of the patients and we weren't quite sure what to do. They were right there and they knew how to handle it and handled it very well. It's a very nice place, all the rooms are nice, and when you go in, you have to sign in so they'll know who's there and they give you little badges to wear, so they'll know you're a visitor and stuff. So I kind of like that. They have a calendar they print out every month. They can go to church on Sunday and they have music. They bring someone in that they can attend to, and they have basketball, and chair volleyball and they have people that come in and sing and they even have a happy hour if someone chooses that. They play cards and they just do all kinds of activities. They did a Father's Day cookout if you wanted to go there and be a part of that, and then they did a little 4th of July thing. They're always active, doing stuff. Since she's in memory care, the main door is locked to her side. It's kind of like a U-shape that goes around. And then there's one door that goes to a patio out there on her side where she can go, but they can't get out to the main street. That's kind of nice for the ones that have memory care, and there are techs, or nurses, or care people always on the floor looking for them and checking on them in their rooms. If you're visiting, they'll just stick their head in and say hi and stuff. But in her room, she has a big closet so they can bring stuff, and she has room for her queen bed, and she has a full-size dresser and a lounge chair in her room. And then they have a huge bathroom with a shower that you can put a shower chair for them in and big enough for a wheelchair to go in if you needed a wheelchair. I feel very comfortable with her being there."

"My mom moved to Independence Village of Zionsville West. I liked the way the memory care was laid out. It seemed very approachable and comfortable, and it reminded me a lot of what my mom would like. Knowing her preferences, it felt right. I also connected, I think, with the director of memory care, and some of the people that I met, for some reason connected with them. They do an excellent job. It's very well kept, very clean, and tidy. I've been there twice now when they've cleaned her room. It's a lovely job. The facility is really beautiful. It just seems like a lot of care is going into keeping the surroundings safe and comfortable. So far, she's been very active. There's something to do every day or every afternoon. She can pick and choose what she wants. She's gone to karaoke. She's watched a comedy show. They've taken her to breakfast with the little group. They have a birthday party. They had a piano player/singer come in. She sat and watched that. They baked a kind of cookie one day. It's very active, and she gets to pick and choose what she feels like doing. So far, she's done all of those. I've eaten and I've been there when she had lunch and dinner a few times and she gobbles it down. She's a good eater, so I think there's plenty of choice for her, and she seems very pleased with having no problems adjusting to the food that they're offering. I've been very impressed with how caring they are and sweet, whether it's kind of a helper staff versus the directors. Everybody's been very approachable. They have been sending me pictures of her doing some fun things. They had dogs come in twice now. The director took pictures and I got pictures with Mom and dogs. I think they're staying very attentive to engage the families. So I'm very pleased with the staff. There are other places less expensive, and yet there are others more expensive, so I would say they're kind of in the middle-high."

"The memory care rooms are small but clean. Designed to be small so the residents will spend more time in the community area and outside in the secure courtyard. The staff is very caring, working with the residents in groups and individually. They assist each resident based on their specific needs. There are many activities for the residents including crafts, exercises, games, and music performed by singers and musicians. An onsite beauty salon is very convenient. Food is served in the memory care dining area with residents sitting with their friends or by themselves if preferred. The menu has multiple choices for each meal. On-site physical, occupational, and speech therapy is available from a third party. There is also a physicians assistant available for appointments on a weekly basis. Overall the memory care at Independence Village at Fishers East is one of the best in the area. I would highly recommend it when considering memory care for a loved one."

"Overall staff is friendly, and facility is very nice. Very pleased with all of the activities that are offered, as our mother is very active. The only negative feedback is that we were surprised to hear the monthly rates were going to increase when my mother had only been living there for six months. "

"I had just visited The Oaks at Brownsburg. It was nice and was clean. The lady I met with, Tammy was her name, she was very nice, very informative, and she told me all about the place. We went down and toured one of the one-bedroom apartments. They are on one single level, so there are no upstairs or downstairs. All of the units have doors to the outside and a little patio that you can use. However, it's a much more managed facility than I expected. For example, they provide three meals a day, so the kitchens and the apartments are very minimal. They don't even have an oven or a stove in the kitchen. They have a small refrigerator and a microwave oven, and that's it, and that's because they expect that you will eat in the cafeteria with everybody else since it's free. I'm not certain I'm ready for that kind of care. It's not high on my list of options right now merely because of the cost. It's the most expensive place I've checked out so far. It's almost $2000 a month for a one-bedroom apartment, and it doesn't even include a stove, so I'm a little concerned about that. They have a lot of amenities, and there's a lot going for it, but I work a full-time job, eight hours a day, five days a week, and so I'm not going to be eating lunches there. I'm going to be eating lunches at work. I'm probably not going to be eating breakfast there either because I got to leave early in the morning to get to work, and I'm probably not going to have time to go down to the cafeteria every morning for breakfast. So the most I would be doing is probably eating dinners there, and I just don't think that it's worth the extra cost for that amenity. If I was retired and I stayed home all the time, it might be a different matter, but I'm not retired yet, so I just don't think it's for me. It's a nice place. Like if my mom ever needed a place to go, I would recommend it, but it's right for me right now. The atmosphere was very nice. There was a bunch of people in the cafeteria eating, which is very nice. It was very clean, and it didn't have any smells. It was nice; I liked it. It's a nice place, just not for me. It's a great place for certain people, just not for me, not at this time in my life anywhere. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice. She answered all my questions. I liked her. The facility was beautiful. They even have a theater there and it was filled with these recliners and big screen TV that you could schedule to have family and friends over for. They have these living rooms where people can gather around a fire, and they have fireplaces. It was a nice, beautiful place. I just don't think it's right for me right now in my life."

"I visited Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park in Greenfield. They have independent living quarters where you're in with a lot of other people, and then they have individual houses with just wonderful accommodations. It's very expensive. They're running around $3,000 to $3,500 a month, and that's pretty heavy, but it's comparable to the prices that I've checked all around. When I am ready, that's the one I will probably use. It's just very nice, quiet, secluded, and has all the amenities that go with it. You can have independent living, and I still have my car, so I will have a garage, and everything, just like living in a regular residential area. They're just like regular houses. It has all kinds of restaurants and a lot of traffic around the area. It's also roughly about 10 miles from my current home, so that's the one I would want to use. In the big apartment complex, they have a swimming pool, a recreational workout, and stuff for staying fit. The workout room has stationary bikes and walking paths where you can walk your dog. They have food there that they fix, just like a restaurant. The price on the big house with all the apartments was a couple of hundred dollars less than the individual units. You just come out of your independent living house and walk into the big apartment-like place, and you have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even have snacks. I've had lunch out there a couple of times, and the food was excellent. I've sampled some of their breakfasts, and a couple of times I was out there and had dinner with them. It's excellent, and everything about it is clean. It also smells good. I've found nothing that turned me against it."
