The Best Independent Living Communities in Hamilton County, IN

"During my visit to Northridge Gracious Retirement Living, I was shown some apartments. They were doing an open house before Christmas. I was not given a tour by the community sales rep, Kelsey, but she directed me to someone. I think he's on staff or he may be a resident, but I got a good tour. They had all kinds of areas where you can get together. They have a big library and a big theater. They had several different elevators to get you to different places. It's quite big. The newsletter said that they were going to have a New Year's party. They have been in the packet; I got a calendar of all of the activities. They have about eight or nine things every day going on. They have an exercise room, a theater, and a chapel, I like it very much. The thing was, I have just contacted them again by email asking for pricing, transportation, and whether they had first-floor rooms with an outside entrance for my puppy. I have a dog and I don't like to get her around other dogs, she stresses out. So, it's kind of important that I be able to get her in and out a door without going through the whole facility to get there. I didn't get answers about that yet. Kelsey was busy greeting people and directing people. So, she was kind of at the front, and not able to talk to anybody, really a lot. So that's why I've gone back and asked more questions."

"My sister is currently living here and has been getting involved in activities more. The director is awesome and has great communication skills. Within less than 12 hours of me asking; I received all of the information for August with every detail and a picture of my sister participating. Very pleased. "

"I toured Hamilton Trace. I like the facility itself. I like the apartments, I like what they have to offer, and I like the price. I mean, there's a big difference in price with these communities that I found. There can be thousands of dollars. I liked the way they toured me and showed me everything. There was nothing undisclosed. I had questions and they answered all the questions. So, I thought they did a good job in touring me."

"I already signed up with Traditions at North Willow. I liked the fact that I could have my own separate apartment. They're called villas. It's a two-bedroom with attached garage, and I liked having the attached garage. The community relations director was excellent. The apartment I'm moving into is brand new. Nobody's lived in it. It has two bathrooms, a fairly large modern kitchen, and washer and dryer. It's a very nice place. Their dining room isn't open yet from COVID. I looked at their brochure, and the food sounds pretty good. With your rent, you get 30 meals a month and breakfast any time of the day. 30 meals a month means you can have one a day or if you're eating somewhere else, you could have two in one day or whatever, so it's pretty flexible. They have a lot of things going on, and the people in the apartments are pretty friendly. They have an onsite activities director, who coordinates a variety of activities and many outings based on their residents' interests including musical entertainment, special holiday celebration, and summer cookouts. They have an exercise program every morning at 10:00. They do exercise in the main building, arts and crafts, bingo, Bridge games, cooking, daily happy hour, outings to local restaurants, and holiday shopping. They have a lot of things that you can do. I basically just saw the unit I'm going to move into and the model unit. It's very clean. I didn't really tour the main building where they have memory care and assisted living. This place is new. It's only four years old."

"What a wonderful facility. My mom moved here Nov 2019. So, she's been there 3 years and her care has been excellent. Even through the pandemic, they provided excellent care. When we couldn't visit, they arranged FaceTime visits. Then we got to have outdoor visits. When I go to visit mom, the staff is always saying hello to residents by name. I've only seen smiles from the staff. Her apartment was recently renovated, and a 1 BR is perfect size for her. There are plenty of activities provided, and the residents get to recommend others they would like available to them. For mom, the best activities include the visits from animals, and the music programs. :) "

"The garden suites at Spring Mill Meadows were very nice. I like the location near the hospital. The staff was wonderful. She said they would have a shuttle, but they don't have a driver right now because of Covid. They have some activities that they offer. The one thing that we did not like was the view. There wasn't a very good view."

"My dad has been in the Lincoln Lodge area of the American Village. It's the independent living apartments of American Village. They have nice spacious rooms because he has a two-bedroom, two bathroom. Very friendly staff as well. The food was decent there, I've had a couple of meals there, and they have lots of senior activities, outings, and trips. The residents are friendly. They do like light housekeeping. They do his laundry as well. It's very clean. It's close to my house, and for him it was nice because it was literally around the corner from the Meijer's, so it was just good for him to be close to the store. They have a recreation room, a media room like a movie room, and an activities center. They have a nice variety of food."

"The staff is awesome. My LO needed to move in quickly and IVFE took up the challenge, dealing with the hurdles and difficult pieces so that we could prepare and breathe. These are the dedicated, passionate, unstoppable staff you want looking out for your LO. I have no doubt that whatever is needed for the care of my LO, they will make sure it happens. That peace is priceless."

"Traditions at Brookside was excellent, very clean, and new. I got a good impression of the place. I saw a freestanding home for independent living and two apartments for assisted living. The young woman was very, very knowledgeable, and helpful. They had no real facility for hobbies, but lots of social activity."

"I was treated very well at Zionsville Meadows. I was given a tour. They were very friendly. They have detached housing units for independent-living. It was away from everything, but I really liked it. It has older units, but the units are larger. The community is quite attractive, and is laid out more like a housing community rather than an institutionalized building. "

"Writing reviews for assisted living is difficult. You have to remember you’re dealing with humans, and no one is perfect. They have ups and downs. I will say that overall the ups far outweigh the downs at IVoWZ. My dad lived in their memory care for almost a year before he passed away from Alzheimer’s. It was during the height of the pandemic. I feel that Independence did a fantastic job caring for him and keeping us connected. When my dad was transitioning, they allowed me to be by his side. I will be forever grateful. My mom is currently in assisted living. She gets great care, and I’m very involved. On the occasion there is an issue, I call and talk to the appropriate person in charge, and the issue is resolved. Again, I feel that’s what is important. Can issues be addressed and resolved. Things don’t come up very often. I can usually take care of the issues my 87 year old mother is requiring! The facility is clean and beautiful! I love the staff. I have a great relationship with so many of the nurses and aides. You will get to know them by name and they will know you by name. They become extended family. There are all kinds of activities and outings too. It’s really a busy place! The food was on a down, but they are correcting that. That’s an example of management listening. I’m giving three stars for food because they’re still working on it and I haven’t tried it since the new chef has started. My mom seems to be happy again though. Staff gets a four ONLY because of agency. That happens occasionally now, but there was a time that it was the norm. "

"I visited Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park in Greenfield. They have independent living quarters where you're in with a lot of other people, and then they have individual houses with just wonderful accommodations. It's very expensive. They're running around $3,000 to $3,500 a month, and that's pretty heavy, but it's comparable to the prices that I've checked all around. When I am ready, that's the one I will probably use. It's just very nice, quiet, secluded, and has all the amenities that go with it. You can have independent living, and I still have my car, so I will have a garage, and everything, just like living in a regular residential area. They're just like regular houses. It has all kinds of restaurants and a lot of traffic around the area. It's also roughly about 10 miles from my current home, so that's the one I would want to use. In the big apartment complex, they have a swimming pool, a recreational workout, and stuff for staying fit. The workout room has stationary bikes and walking paths where you can walk your dog. They have food there that they fix, just like a restaurant. The price on the big house with all the apartments was a couple of hundred dollars less than the individual units. You just come out of your independent living house and walk into the big apartment-like place, and you have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even have snacks. I've had lunch out there a couple of times, and the food was excellent. I've sampled some of their breakfasts, and a couple of times I was out there and had dinner with them. It's excellent, and everything about it is clean. It also smells good. I've found nothing that turned me against it."

"The location of The Oaks at Brownsburg was very ideal. It was right across the street from Kroger, just down the street from Walmart, and there are all kinds of fast food places. It was just a very pleasant location. The staff was very, very friendly and very caring. They understood a lot of my problems, and I was impressed with them. The food proportions were very generous, and they weren't bland. It was a very satisfactory meal. They had a place where people could gather for different activities. They had bingo, arts and crafts, and different activities for people to kind of gather and get together."
