"My 94 year old mother has been a resident of GVS for five years. She initially moved into a one bedroom apartment and was able to qualify for independent living but then transitioned into assisted living due to progression of her dementia. My 5 star rating is based upon our experience in both facilities. The nursing staff is amazing. Everyone is so kind and they do a great job keeping family informed with our mother's well being. The physical surroundings are kept in top condition, even with the age of the buildings. Food and dining has always been above expectations. My family did extensive research before deciding on GVS and we all feel blessed our mother is a resident, especially given the COVID 19 environment. Their visitation protocols in place have resulted in no reported resident infections as of 7/23/20 which is impressive."

"Overall, Grand Victorian of Greenwood was a great place. It looked good. It just wasn't quite what we were looking for. Everybody was nice. They showed us around and showed us everything. I couldn't ask for more. They had good amenities. There was nothing wrong with it. They helped me. Everything was great."

"Magnolia Springs SouthPointe was my top pick. However, it wouldn't work for my sister because of its openness, and she needs to be restricted. I like the openness of it and there is a lot of light as you walk in. The cafeteria has light. I would go there, I probably couldn't afford it, but I would go there myself. My sister is college-educated, and she was finding a hard time with conversations with different people where she is now, and so she would like to be challenged conversationally, and that might be available there more because of this mix of people. Cody, who gave me the tour, took his time and was very knowledgeable. He said hello to people by name and that impressed me. He is just the marketing guy, but he knew the people and that was very good. They have a chef and I looked at the menus and those are very impressive. I think my sister would be more interested in what I saw there than other institutions that I've seen. The facility is only six years old, so it has that clean feel and there are no smells like you would get in some of the more hospital-like facilities. After looking at eight of them either virtually or in person, it seemed like it had everything that all the other ones have including the salon. They have a little gift shop or a little mini-store, and not all of them have that, and so that was nice. Almost all of them had a TV room, but theirs was more comfortable and more theater-like."

"The people at Rosegate Assisted Living and Garden Homes were very nice, and the independent living housing was good. They presented a lot of activities that they have available or will have available post COVID. In terms of the rooms, my ladies actually felt it was too much space for them. The staff member that I met there was named Cami and she was great."

"We went to Altenheim Senior Living and I thought it was a very nice place. We placed our name on the waiting list. It was affordable, it was clean, and the woman who showed us around was friendly and willing to answer all our questions. We actually knew someone who was there. They have group visits to places, they have a library, and I asked if I could start a group of women who did handicrafts. I said that we could meet once a week, they seemed very interested, and said that would be a good idea to get people out of their rooms and talking about what they can do. It's an older facility, but it's very well maintained."

"Mom moved into Meadow Lakes. She had been there before for respite care when we went on vacation and whenever we're looking for memory care, and she seemed to like it. It's an all-women's facility, so that worked out really good for us, too, because I kinda heard stories about men and women being together. Because of Covid, everybody's locked down, and I miss my mom. The staff members are all very nice. According to mom, food is really good. I have not seen her room because I haven't been able to go back to her room, but she has not complained about it. She's in memory care, so they work with her every day on different things, trying to work with her memory. I don't know what they do in the memory care right now, but before Covid, they would take them out on little group tours. When I checked around, there were others that were cheaper, that had just women. I thought it's really important that there were no men in the area, so I really like this."

"I have moved into Encore 55+ Boutique Apartments - Plainfield. They have activities. They meet three days a week and have chair yoga. They have events. For History Month, they have a speaker come in and talk about Martin Luther King. They make it where you have to get to know your neighbors and they check on you, which I did not know. I got sick, and then one of my neighbors came and said, 'We didn't see you. We're just coming down to check on you,' so that was very nice, and they didn't have to do that. It's a very friendly and very active community. They have gone to the casinos, they make trips, they have cook-ins where we all bring something, and we also have fellowship down in the community area. It's a very welcoming community, and I like that. I have a two-bedroom-two-bathroom. I have a guest bedroom, which I like because now I can have my mom come to visit instead of having a one-bedroom. It's very spacious. I have plenty of room. It's very accommodating, and I love it. I have a nice little balcony. I could put a little table and chair out there. It's beautiful. I have a view of the courtyard, the tennis courts, and the pond. We also have a koi pond with little koi fish. We have an outdoor kitchen, and you're more than welcome to use it. It's just beautiful. And I like that everyone decorates for the holidays. It's Valentine's Day, and people have their wedding pictures out, and it's just beautiful. I love it. It's wonderful. The staff members check on you. We cook our own meals here, but they have a service that comes in twice a month. We have everything. We have our own movie theater, a yoga studio, a full-scaled gym, a hair salon, and housekeeping. They offer us free wine and beer every day. So, if you drink, you can go down and socialize and have wine and beer. You don't have to leave if you don't want to. It's a little expensive, but it is what it is because you pretty much have everything. Utility-wise, the only thing you pay for is your electricity. The internet is free except if you upgrade it, it's $10. So it's really up to you, but everything is covered."

"I chose this one. For one thing, it's very clean and it's close to my son, which is the reason why I'm moving to Plainfield. I like the people that were there that I spoke with. It's comparable to other places for independent living. I just like it. They have everything available that you're going to need. They even have washers and dryers in their apartments. You get three meals a day and 24-hour security. It's very nice. It's perfect."

"I visited Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park in Greenfield. They have independent living quarters where you're in with a lot of other people, and then they have individual houses with just wonderful accommodations. It's very expensive. They're running around $3,000 to $3,500 a month, and that's pretty heavy, but it's comparable to the prices that I've checked all around. When I am ready, that's the one I will probably use. It's just very nice, quiet, secluded, and has all the amenities that go with it. You can have independent living, and I still have my car, so I will have a garage, and everything, just like living in a regular residential area. They're just like regular houses. It has all kinds of restaurants and a lot of traffic around the area. It's also roughly about 10 miles from my current home, so that's the one I would want to use. In the big apartment complex, they have a swimming pool, a recreational workout, and stuff for staying fit. The workout room has stationary bikes and walking paths where you can walk your dog. They have food there that they fix, just like a restaurant. The price on the big house with all the apartments was a couple of hundred dollars less than the individual units. You just come out of your independent living house and walk into the big apartment-like place, and you have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even have snacks. I've had lunch out there a couple of times, and the food was excellent. I've sampled some of their breakfasts, and a couple of times I was out there and had dinner with them. It's excellent, and everything about it is clean. It also smells good. I've found nothing that turned me against it."

"I saw the facilities at Traditions at Reagan Park for assisted living. It's a very nice place, but for the extra money it didn't make sense for me. The staff was very friendly and very informative. "Harmony at Avon was excellent. I could be very happy there. The views were lovely. The place itself was well cared for and very nice. The person I spoke with was very accommodating, but very articulate. She could explain everything to me very well and was extremely nice. I ate there in the summertime, and it was good and had nice choices. I saw them doing some kind of crafts, and people were involved. They were the very best that I've seen in closets and storage."

"My mom is in Solana. It was in the high end of nice. It is really pretty and new. It is Medicaid waiver certified. They did a really good job. The only down side is that the chef isn't all that good, but other than the food, it's doing well. We like it. There is a practitioner who is right there. We like the staff. Things have been pretty good. I highly recommend it. They have activities. They do everything you can think of. They have a theater. They do arts & crafts every day. They have an exercise room. "

"Sycamore Reserve is more for just senior living rather than assisted living and that suited me really well. I like the arrangement of the apartments and it's a nice place. It's a very nice place to live in. Everybody I met was friendly, they just didn't overdo their sales pitch and they let me reach my own decisions. They always explain how things are, and that was nice. They have 14 different floor arrangements in their apartments. Everyone I met on the staff was just real down-to-earth, polite and nice. They didn't mind joking with the residents, and they're very friendly. They were having some entertainment, a group was playing music and singing. Now, there weren't too many attending that. They were getting ready to set up the happy hour in the main lobby and were setting it up when I got there. The people were sitting around, talking and having a drink. When getting there, the traffic is the only drawback that I can see. It's located near a community hospital and that's where my doctors are affiliated with. They gave me a menu, they have a continental breakfast every morning, a nice lunch, and you can have whatever you want. It's just pretty nice. They had a nice dining room. On the upkeep, they had a cleaning service that I could get if I wanted it. Each one of the apartments had its own laundry, a washer, and a dryer, so you wouldn't have to hire anybody to do it for you. And I can have my grandkids come and visit, and they say I don't have to do any yard work. There's a nice swimming pool which is open when the city pools are open. And they haven't been open because of the COVID. The people taking the tour had to wear a mask. It was well kept up. One or two of the apartments that we've looked up were still under renovation. After residents leave an apartment they always go in and redo everything."

"My mom is moving into Traditions of Columbus this Monday. They seem extremely caring. It's a beautiful and gorgeous facility, and we couldn't believe how much more reasonable it is than some of the other facilities we checked out. We visited both the assisted and memory care unit and they were both wonderful. The person who toured me was knowledgeable, caring, and wanting to help in any way possible. They didn't invite us for a meal when we went there but they sent us a postcard today in the mail about a barbeque thing for next Friday."

"I went to look at Traditions at North Willow. I thought it was beautiful, but I couldn't afford it. It was too expensive. The facility was large and homey. I met the activities director, and she seemed to be very enthusiastic. Independent living has individual cottages, and I like that. The one I saw was empty, so it wasn't set up, but it was large."
