"I toured Demaree Crossing. They've got like 46 rooms in their memory care, and some are private, and some are double residents. Even though it was larger, some people might like the bigger, more institutional feel. I still don't doubt that they did really good care in that area. They had a lot of amenities to offer, with sensory boards and sensory blankets. They have indoor gazebos where, if somebody was agitated or needed a quiet space, they did provide that. The staff seemed knowledgeable and they were very nice showing us around. We didn't sample the food, but we were coming in at the tail end of lunch and some of the residents were being assisted with the food. I liked that they said that to help stimulate appetite, they don't use white dishes. They feel that the colored plates stimulate appetite. They have an oven and bake muffins and bread out where the aroma will also help entice, which is a nice touch. The common area for memory care was another big open area. It had a kitchen area off to the side where, if people wanted to feel like sitting down at a kitchen table, they had the area to do that. They sometimes had dances, and they did have a piano if a resident wanted to play because some of them were nonverbal, yet they remembered how to play the piano and play beautifully. So, they do try to stimulate with sensory things. They had stuffed animals and dolls, and things that some of the residents really took comfort in. So, I thought that was a nice thing to do."

They are great at their job and really make people feel at home. My mother in law loved it here and didnt want to leave! Thank you to everyone at Aspen Trace!"

"My dad is a resident of Grand Victorian of Greenwood, and they know him here. The staff is great. We've gotten to know a lot of them on a personal level. We had hugs and that sort of thing. They're all very caring and quick with the warmth, so we appreciate that. When they made the change, they made some changes to the food. It's the same chef, but they used to have Coke machines here. So they would bring them Cokes, but they've taken those out. Sometimes, the soup options they used to offer variety. Now, it's almost always either they have a choice of chicken noodle or tomato soup. When my dad first came here, he was just level one assisted. We've got the room right outside. They've got a gazebo that residents are welcome to go and sit on, and it's got a pond. They put the fountain on in the summer for people who are into ducks, geese, and a lot of animals. We've got pictures of the turtle and the egrets, and we've got bird feeders outside of his windows that he's always taking pleasure in, not so much anymore since he's advanced to a different level, but the grounds are nice. The common areas are nice, and they've got activities. They do bingo. They've got the activities director, and they take trips. It's got everything he needs. Every Wednesday, there are cocktails and concerts. So people will come in and play instruments or sing or bands or whatever; however, it's beyond his capabilities right now to engage in that kind of thing."

"Bickford of Greenwood was great. We loved the room. It was a nice room. The facility was well laid out. They had a little outside area where we could. It just didn't work out for us. We took my wife in on a Saturday, and that Saturday night, she went to the hospital. The staff was great. They worked with us. I have no complaints at all. We were happy there. They had a little garden area. They had anything you wanted to do. They had one area where you worked on puzzles. Then they had a nice little area where a big TV was. You could go watch some TV if you just want to stay in your room. They had the dining room. You could order whatever you wanted, and they would fix it right then. They had great activities, but we never got to go to any of them. It was an expensive 10 hours because we paid for 30 days and spent 10 hours there. At one time, they said I might get a refund. I signed a contract for 30 days, so I can't complain in any way, shape, or form."

"Our tour with Magnolia Springs SouthPointe was really good. The staff and the community were excellent. I enjoyed seeing the area that the memory care is provided. Cody was excellent in answering all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable. It's very clean and very welcoming. They have entertainment and things going on, they do have a workout facility, they have a cafeteria. I liked most just the appearance of the facility, I got introduced to a few staff members there. Everybody made me feel important and very welcome."

"Rosegate Assisted Living and Garden Homes was nice. My mom said it's a little bit pricy, but she liked it. They were very friendly. The staff took a long time to describe to us what the community was like. She was nice, friendly, and caring. From what we saw, the houses she showed us looked spacious. I think my mother wanted one with a porch and two bathrooms. They had a waiting list, but from what she showed us, they looked nice. You can tell they do keep the maintenance up there. They keep it updated. We went to the dining area. When we were waiting for the lady to come to talk to us, we saw the residents eating and they looked happy. They had an outdoor sitting area, which was nice and cute. This is a place I would place my parents if I had to. We liked mostly the garden homes because it's nice the way they had it. They said that they still care about their people in the garden homes. They still look after you, and they still keep an eye, and care for everyone on the property."

"The Wellington at Southport seems very caring. They have a nice memory ward that is connected to the assisted living. My dad lives in the assisted living part and my mom lives in the memory ward, so he is able to walk back and forth. My mom is going on Medicaid and there are only two places in the southside of Indianiapolis that have a Medicaid facility; Wellington is one of them. It opened up not too long ago, so they have redone everything. Their nurses and doctor are really great. My dad does arts and crafts and bingo. He also draws and makes things for the residents. He's having a better time there than he did at another community. They serve three meals and have a snack place that he can go down to at anytime. "

"I toured Worthington Place. I liked it. They have a couple of openings right now. It's just like a small apartment inside, and it is assisted living only. It seemed very nice and very clean. They have a little refrigerator, a freezer in all the individual apartments, and a microwave. It's not that they're unfurnished, you can bring your furniture. A queen size bed will fit there and many people had a queen size bed. They have it in the wall out and then they have a sofa across the end of the bed that kind of divides the living rooms and the bedrooms. Some of them do have one bedroom off to the side. The one I looked at was just all one space and they've got the walk-in showers. They're just even with the floor. It looked roomy. The ones that they showed us had furniture and stuff in them, and then they showed others without any furniture that way you could picture what you wanted to put in there and the way you wanted it. They have good views from their windows. I thought it was very well planned out, the way it was laid out. The staff was very nice, very helpful, and very informative. He was talking to us and just asked if there was anything else we wanted to see. He showed us the dining room and all the different places. They have an exercise room or physical therapy-type room. They had the space to get your hair done and everything, and then they had an outside area where if you want to go outside to that little table or just sit in some chairs and enjoy the air. They had some nice areas out there. I liked it a lot because they have a bus that takes people around to their doctor appointments or hospital or whatever, and if they do have trips and things that they can take if you want to go, they do that, and it just doesn't sound like you get bored there."

"My brother moved into Meadow Lakes. They have a very nice setup. I like the apartment, and the food quality is really good. His apartment has an outdoor-facing window, and the size is very nice. He has plenty of room, even though it's a studio apartment. He has a nice little food area where he has a microwave, a refrigerator, and a sink. The staff is wonderful. They keep me up to date on his needs or wants. They help him every day to move in and feel comfortable. They have games available. They have little seminars on finances and things for families and residents. They have a physical fitness area that they can use. They have laundry that they can use at any time. They watch television together. They go to the movies, they go to outings, they go to restaurants on a bus, and they go shopping once a week via the bus. They get people to doctor's appointments if they need assistance getting there, and they have a doctor also there in the building. But I'd like to see more activities."

"I went to Greenbriar Village. I would give it a 10 out of a 10. It was an excellent facility. The admission director was excellent explaining everything, explaining the costs, and explaining what they offer. It was excellent. The rooms were very roomy and very clean. They're very willing to move furniture around to best suit my brother. If I wanted to bring in something that is his, that would be fine. The other thing that was good about this place is that they did have a room available. They just have two rooms for respite care. They are both excellent apartments, not just little rooms. It is an apartment with a small fridge and microwave. You don't have to give 30-day notice. I don't know how much time he's going to need in a place, and so I don't know how to give a 30-day notice. I don't have to at Greenbriar. I can say, 'Hey, he is ready to go home. Tomorrow discharge him, and he can go home.' That was an excellent ability with them. The dining area was very nice. It was spread out so they could have some social distancing. If you wanted to be served in your room, they would bring it to your room. They do laundry just one room at a time. They do the laundry and bring it right back to the room. It was nice because I have back issues, and I don't want to be dragging big bags of clothes home, lift them into the trunk, and so on. It was a very nice feature. They choose their menu, whatever they want each meal; that was very good. They have a therapy room that my brother would go to, and not just do a few exercises in his room. They have therapy on site; whereas the other facility, they would have a visiting therapy come in."

"Cumberland Trace was extremely clean. Everybody was super friendly. They did a good job checking with my dad and even with his meal options. He always had several to choose from. He had three meals a day while he was there and I thought they did a nice job with that, but the cleanliness was a big thing. The staff was all extremely friendly and very personable. They also did a good job. They came in regularly and made sure he was getting his medicines properly and all that. They were all incredibly helpful. It's a nice facility. I thought their prices were pretty comparable to the surrounding area and it was close for me so I could stop in and see him whenever I wanted and take him out for walks and stuff."

"We did a tour of Walker Place, and it was a very nice facility. The lady who gave us the tour was such a good person and so interested in her patients who live there. She was just wonderful and did a lot of following up with me while we were deciding what to do with my uncle. She was just awesome. She wanted to make a home visit, but things happened and she couldn't make it work. The facilities were so clean, and it was very homey looking. I would think anybody who stayed there would have a great experience. They had a workout place and area where they could play games. They had anything they wanted as far as extra activities goes."

"I have moved into Sugar Grove Senior Living. So far, so good. I like it. Everybody's friendly. I haven't had the opportunity to take advantage of everything because I've been so busy moving and unpacking. I love the cottage apartment that I'm in. I have two bedrooms and two baths and then a sunroom. It's very spacious and open. I think I have as much room now as when I had my condo. The staff is very nice and friendly. They go out of their way. They ask you if you need anything and answer your questions. They're just super. The only thing that brings them down is the maintenance people. They're a little bit slow at getting around to whatever you need, but they also said that they had a lot of people moving in this week. Everything I've had has been great. They have bingo several times a week. They have card clubs and exercise clubs. They have a bible study. They have outings where the bus will take people to the Dollar Tree and the grocery store. They don't have very many things at night, which I can understand why, but for people in independent living, it would be nice to have something to go to at nighttime."

"I visited Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park in Greenfield. They have independent living quarters where you're in with a lot of other people, and then they have individual houses with just wonderful accommodations. It's very expensive. They're running around $3,000 to $3,500 a month, and that's pretty heavy, but it's comparable to the prices that I've checked all around. When I am ready, that's the one I will probably use. It's just very nice, quiet, secluded, and has all the amenities that go with it. You can have independent living, and I still have my car, so I will have a garage, and everything, just like living in a regular residential area. They're just like regular houses. It has all kinds of restaurants and a lot of traffic around the area. It's also roughly about 10 miles from my current home, so that's the one I would want to use. In the big apartment complex, they have a swimming pool, a recreational workout, and stuff for staying fit. The workout room has stationary bikes and walking paths where you can walk your dog. They have food there that they fix, just like a restaurant. The price on the big house with all the apartments was a couple of hundred dollars less than the individual units. You just come out of your independent living house and walk into the big apartment-like place, and you have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even have snacks. I've had lunch out there a couple of times, and the food was excellent. I've sampled some of their breakfasts, and a couple of times I was out there and had dinner with them. It's excellent, and everything about it is clean. It also smells good. I've found nothing that turned me against it."
