"Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living was excellent. It was very clean, bright, and very nice. I loved all the activities they had. The rooms were very clean and I thought they were bigger than what I've seen in other places. The staff who assisted me during the tour was very friendly, kind, and helpful."

"They welcomed me into their home and it was a very warm feeling. The staff was very warm and informational. The rooms were top-notch. I have other aunts with me that were saying, "Can I put my reservations?" They had a location for a spiritual setting, a piano, a bowling lane, a theater, and an exercise room. They had a common area and a kitchen and a dining area specific for memory care. They, with supervision, can take part in other activities such as the exercise, the movie theater, the game, and the church, and they have an outdoor patio to themselves. I was not able to sample the food, but I did see pictures and the menu to complement the pictures as to what they have. It's all prepared in-house and all-natural."

"My uncle is comfortable at Kelly's Hillside Manor. He likes the other people who live there. He likes the guy who owns the place who also takes him to all his doctors' appointments. My uncle shares a room with a fella and they get along really well. The owner's wife is from the Philippines and she does all the cooking, so she cooks Filipino food and my uncle really likes it. The owner takes them out for a pizza once every two weeks and asks them if they want to go to a movie and if they do, he takes them. Don, the owner, is a really great guy who cares a lot about the people. He always talks to them and listens to what they have to say."

"Harmony At Elkhart is a brand-new community. It's just down the street from my parents' house and it is great. There are minimal residents, but our concern is if we move mom in there and she runs out of money, we have to move her out. As long as you've got money to afford the cost of living, it's a gorgeous building. It has great apartments and wonderful staff that we met. They have daily activities. They have snacks all the time for the residents. Their menus are posted. They have light housekeeping for the residents and laundry weekly. The staff said they had elevators at least on each end. It was three stories. They have a billiard room and a game room that families could take their family members into. They had studio apartments, one-bedroom apartments, and two-bedroom apartments. Every one of the staff members was friendly. The cleaning ladies who were in the hallways were saying hi and greeting us. The sales rep that took us around was great. We didn't meet an unfriendly person. They were nice. It's brand new, so it's still clean. It was presented well and it's well taken care of. The landscaping crews were outside doing some work when we were there."

"My father is at The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower. There are currently new owners. He's been there for two years now and he's very happy there. His church is in the area. It's been very good. I'm very happy that he's there and he's happy. I love the other clients there. I love that the staff is very caring about him. They've got wonderful residents and wonderful staff. It was economically appropriate for my dad. The staff is very good, very personable, very caring, and very nice. They are certainly experienced in what they do. Dad is very pleased with the food there very much so. To me, they are very conscious of the way they prepare the food and they give certainly a variety at every meal. You're not just eating one type of food. They give you choices, too. They bake, they broil, and they roast. I haven't been aware of any fried food. If they do, it's very rare. It's very healthy food. They will prepare food even if you have allergies. They prepare food just for you. It's a very nice facility. The new people plan to upgrade where it's very necessary. They're going to do areas more for the people there. They have different health exercises, various games, and they're taught different card games, movies, they have educational speakers come in very frequently, they have music entertainment quite often, day trips weekly, and restaurant trips weekly. They're very lucky to have the outdoor symphony right next door, so there is a big band show, that they can attend. Their location is just ideal. They're right Downtown St. Joe. A beautiful park is right across the street from them. It is a million-dollar-plus location. Value for money is very fair. It's tremendous when you think about what they get there compared to other facilities."

"My mother's staying at Settlers Place. I am satisfied with it. The rooms and apartments are fine. The dining area and the food are very adequate. They take them to concerts and play bingo. They do a lot of things for them and have a garden and a small library room. The staff is very helpful and caring. It's clean there. "

"My dad moved into Brentwood at LaPorte a few months ago. They're very attentive to him. His room is very nice. They have good activities. They can do their laundry, they have a pool table. They have a garden outside, and they have computers for them, and a little library for them to read books if they want to. They have very good staff, very nice, and I wish they had a few more people."

"Woodland Terrace was excellent. The food was very good. It was very clean, very neat, and very organized. They had nice rooms with nice lights and fresh air, and everything smelled good. Everything about it was good. The staff was very accommodating and very cheerful. They brought everybody ice creams in the afternoon and were just upbeat and uplifting. The rooms were bright and clean. They had a lot to do, like taking you by bus to concerts and different tables set up for games. The director was there walking from table to table. However, the area was in the middle of a field near nothing and perhaps it would be easier if something was closer to take people to get groceries. They were just not close to anything. "

"Wellbrooke of South Bend was a beautiful community, but the location was not close to me personally. I didn't like that their restroom wasn't in a good place. It was right by the door of the unit when you walk in, and a little bit further is her living area. So from her bedroom, she'd have to go around the corner to get to her restroom."

"The facility itself is very nice and attached to a family home which the owners live in. The owners are courteous, friendly, and seem very competent. The residents were well cared for, and had a fairly strict daily routine. The atmosphere was very "homey", with relatives visiting often, including relatives of the owners. The owner's children are also involved in the family business, and together they seem to have created a unique environment for elderly care. There aren't a lot of amenities here, and I guess that keeps it from a perfect 5-star rating. Then again, the activity level of most of the residents seems pretty sedentary - these are elderly individuals with little independence or desire for interaction. "

"This place is very good to their residents. I am very happy that my soon to be great aunt in law is in good hands in order to keep her safe, happy, and healthy. The staff is very nice to visitors and to their residents. They make sure that you are able to get to where you need to go to see who you want to see. Also, the staff allows their residents to go out into the community with friends and loved ones, and I am glad they do this the way they do. A behind the desk person signs them out so that they know exactly where their resident is at all times to make sure they are safe and in good care. They also make sure that their meals are sufficient to the desires of the residents. They sometimes even have activities for the residents as well. I am very happy that my fiance's great aunt is in good hands. "

"I like that so many residents like to participate in games and activities. They're very friendly. The staff is great. There's all the comforts of home here. They're pet friendly which is great because I can have my dog here with me and she's friendly with all my neighbors."
