"I toured The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower. I like the location. It overlooks Lake Michigan and downtown Saint Joseph, and that's very appealing to me. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The residents I interacted with seemed quite pleased to be living there. The dwelling places were nice. The dining area was very appealing, with a nice view of Lake Michigan. The food was okay, nothing special. It was well-appointed and well cared for. It has recently been remodeled, and they're in the process of doing more. They have a salon, a workout room, and a gathering room where activities take place. They have all the standard things that these places have. They have a lot of helpful information. They're very friendly and welcoming."

"My sister will be moving into the Brentwood at Niles. Everyone was very pleasant and very cordial. The facilities were nice and clean, and it looked like a friendly place to be. It's a small community, and everybody seemed to get along with everyone else. The rooms were nice and clean. They clean the apartments once a week, and they will replace the carpets befpre she moves in. We enjoyed the food, and it was a little more than what my sister could eat. Everyday they've got something going on, and once a week, they take them out for walking, they go on outings, and they have family gatherings. They have a salon, exercise area, library, and two outdoor patios. I would highly recommend it."

"My uncle is comfortable at Kelly's Hillside Manor. He likes the other people who live there. He likes the guy who owns the place who also takes him to all his doctors' appointments. My uncle shares a room with a fella and they get along really well. The owner's wife is from the Philippines and she does all the cooking, so she cooks Filipino food and my uncle really likes it. The owner takes them out for a pizza once every two weeks and asks them if they want to go to a movie and if they do, he takes them. Don, the owner, is a really great guy who cares a lot about the people. He always talks to them and listens to what they have to say."

"From the moment I walked in the door, I knew River Ridge was the place for my mom. It was evident that all residents were treated with care and respect. I was also impressed that the memory care facility was light, bright, had various sitting areas, and the outdoor area was very nice (including a long cement sidewalk for me to take my mom for a nice walk in her wheelchair. The aides were NOT on their phones all time and constantly interacted with the residents. My mom was well fed and taken care of by skilled individuals that truly cared about her well-being. In moms’ final days, she was treated with dignity and respect. I felt like our whole family was treated like royalty with snacks and food as we navigated this difficult time. Their care and concern for my mom and our entire family was appreciated beyond measure and will not be forgotten. "

"Emeritus at Arborwood were very helpful, and the people I talked to were kind. The time that my dad was there, they just seemed very good to him. I’m just so very grateful for that. The dining room is lovely, they have tablecloths on the table. I’ve been there when my dad has eaten, and he likes a big cup of coffee. I can tell that they’re getting to know the residents -- and not just the nurses and staff -- but we were talking about the housekeepers, the dining staff all of that; they’re just very good. What I really most is the people there; they are just very accommodating if some of the residents want to go outside, they accompany them. They’re not trying to do the least amount of stuff. His room is kept clean, and they encourage him to do things like make his bed. I just think the staff is remarkable and very good. He participates in activities; he doesn’t just sit in his room. They have a bible study once a week and exercises throwing the ball around. He probably doesn’t do as much as I would want him to do, but they are doing their very best to encourage him, and it feels like home. "

"The rooms are clean, open and spacious. The natural light and high ceilings make it feel even bigger. The maintenance staff is friendly and responsive. Our loved one has enjoyed the food and the family style seating. Of the 5 communities I toured before making our final decision, Story Point was a constant front runner. The energy of the staff and facility was genuine, welcoming and fun, from the beginning. There is always something going on and the residents spend so much time together in the many comfortable community spaces. The residents I have regularly interacted with have been pleasant and appear genuinely happy. Safety and security is clearly a top priority and the staff is diligent and thorough. Throughout the whole process, introduction to move in, the staff was informative, responsive and honest. If they didn’t have an immediate answer to a question they said so and got one. I completely trust the staff at Story Point and have witnessed, in our short time there, that the kindness, care, individualized attention and connection is ever present and natural. We are so grateful that our loved one is part of the Story Point community. It is enduring the way they already have stories and are forming relationships with neighbors and staff. Without question, a really great fit for our family."

"Tanglewood Trace was one level all around. It's very nice. It had patios, grills, and all those kinds of things. Shawna toured us around and she was very nice, too. She was even going to give my sister a discount for two months. The food looked very good when we were going by it. They have two dining rooms. They have three meals a day and they have a breakfast bar that's always open with cereals, juices, and water that the residents on either side can get. They also have a beauty shop, card games, board games, libraries, and all kinds of stuff like that."

"My dad moved into CrownPointe of Stevensville a few months ago. We chose this one for basically the convenience, the price, the cleanliness of the area and the staff. We were familiar with the place. It's right next door to where we live, so they let us come in. The staff members are wonderful. They're also very helpful. The rooms are very spacious, very accessible for wheelchair although my dad is not in a wheelchair, he uses a walker. The doors are nice and wide. Obviously, they have people to come around and clean, and they do a fine job. He likes the food. He said it's very good. He is gaining weight. There is transportation there, but generally we take care of that problem. I think it's the best value for the money. They had some problems in the beginning but they got that all straightened out. I think it's reasonable compared to everybody else."

"There are several buildings at Woodland Terrace for different levels of need, and mom was in one that had 20 residents. It was like moving into a family and becoming part of it. They served all the meals family-style, and it was homey and nice. There were a lot of activities to keep the residents busy. The staff was very friendly and nice, and they did things together a lot. The food was OK, and Mom never complained. They had exercises in the morning and sang old songs that the residents knew. They had special people come in to sing, teach flower making, and do coloring and puzzles for the residents. They had hair and makeup for women once a week. The facility seemed like a country retreat. "

"Woodland Terrace was excellent. The food was very good. It was very clean, very neat, and very organized. They had nice rooms with nice lights and fresh air, and everything smelled good. Everything about it was good. The staff was very accommodating and very cheerful. They brought everybody ice creams in the afternoon and were just upbeat and uplifting. The rooms were bright and clean. They had a lot to do, like taking you by bus to concerts and different tables set up for games. The director was there walking from table to table. However, the area was in the middle of a field near nothing and perhaps it would be easier if something was closer to take people to get groceries. They were just not close to anything. "

"The facility itself is very nice and attached to a family home which the owners live in. The owners are courteous, friendly, and seem very competent. The residents were well cared for, and had a fairly strict daily routine. The atmosphere was very "homey", with relatives visiting often, including relatives of the owners. The owner's children are also involved in the family business, and together they seem to have created a unique environment for elderly care. There aren't a lot of amenities here, and I guess that keeps it from a perfect 5-star rating. Then again, the activity level of most of the residents seems pretty sedentary - these are elderly individuals with little independence or desire for interaction. "

"Lighthouse Assisted Living was small but very homey. It gave you a feeling of almost being in a home rather than an institution. They may only have six or seven residents, I think. The place was very clean, and the owner who showed me around was very informative. In fact, she had worked for a senior-living facility for eighteen years, so she's very experienced. The other staff member was very pleasant too. The menu looked very nice, and they said that it was just like a regular kitchen in your home. It's not a huge kitchen, though, since they didn't have that many residents. They had a piano, a table that was set up with puzzles, a nice patio in the back with chairs, a grilling area, and a laundry facility."

"My parents moved to Laurel Oaks of South Haven and they're doing well there. It is new, so the amenities on the site are new. It's only about two years old. They have an administrative nurse who is there at least five days a week, if not more. The staff is friendly. They have both assisted living and memory care. They have field trips, as well as activities onsite. They also have a salon onsite for them to have their hair done, and three meals a day. It's also in close proximity to one of their children, so that works out really well. They started out in assisted living, but it became obvious they needed more, so they're now in memory care. What needs to be improved is some of the communication back and forth with the administrative staff when you want an answer or you call. I realize they're busy. They have a lot of patients. One of the things that we had to work with the staff on was we didn't want phone calls for every little thing, like if there was a stomachache. They're elderly and they tend to have a lot of hallucinations. It's probably one of the more expensive ones, but we have two parents in memory care, so that adds to the cost considerably, and we know that."

"I visited Wellbrooke of South Bend. I would say it was a very clean and safe facility. They were practicing Covid restrictions like they should be, and everyone was friendly. I saw a private room and another one (it's not called semi-private there). Even as a semi-private, there was a lot of privacy to that room. They were good sized rooms with pleasant, bright windows. She was going to get physical therapy, so she would have been well taken care of, I think. I know they had a physical therapy room; I guess you would consider that a gym. I visited the long-term care section, not the assisted living."
