There is always something going on and the residents spend so much time together in the many comfortable community spaces. The residents I have regularly interacted with have been pleasant and appear genuinely happy. Safety and security is clearly a top priority and the staff is diligent and thorough. Throughout the whole process, introduction to move in, the staff was informative, responsive and honest. If they didn’t have an immediate answer to a question they said so and got one. I completely trust the staff at Story Point and have witnessed, in our short time there, that the kindness, care, individualized attention and connection is ever present and natural. "We toured The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower. It's a fabulous place. It would be a great place to live. The staff was excellent. They showed us the available rooms, and we toured the whole building. They have a fabulous dining room, and they have a chef who makes their meals. It overlooks Lake Michigan. You could not ask for any better views. It's a great place."

"Tanglewood Trace was one level all around. It's very nice. It had patios, grills, and all those kinds of things. Shawna toured us around and she was very nice, too. She was even going to give my sister a discount for two months. The food looked very good when we were going by it. They have two dining rooms. They have three meals a day and they have a breakfast bar that's always open with cereals, juices, and water that the residents on either side can get. They also have a beauty shop, card games, board games, libraries, and all kinds of stuff like that."

"We visited Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living. They were thorough, friendly, and detailed, so I guess that's just about what you need to look for to start with. They showed us the facility, and they showed us the rooms. They showed all the features and the activities that they had. The individuals were very friendly and very professional. That's impressive when you see that. They were pretty straightforward and concise with what they were saying, so I think that was a very strong point. The director who showed us the units there said that we aren't ready for assisted living. We are not actually, but we're trying to look ahead to the future. The assisted living facility seemed more like a nursing home facility. It was not something that we would fit into. We're more active and social than Brentwood has to offer. The ones who gave us the tour were very professional. They covered everything and wanted to make sure that they met our needs. They were just very easy to talk to, and made you feel welcome. They weren't just trying to sell you something; they wanted to make sure it was going to be a good fit for the person."

"It was very clean. A lot of people had their doors open, and everything was clean and smelled nicely. The people were incredibly nice. It was a quiet neighborhood. I liked the whole setup of it. They don't have a nursing home, but they will keep you until the end. The staff has been in constant contact with my relative and with me too. I liked it so well and it was convenient, so I didn't go any place else."

"My uncle is now at Harmony at Elkhart. I like it because it's newer, and everything is centrally located for him. The nurse's station is right outside his room, and the dining hall is just around the corner. Everything is new for him, and it makes it nice that everything is convenient. The staff is amazing. They keep in contact with me. They let me know what's going on. They let me know what the plan is for the future. They're amazing people. It's very clean and very nice. Everybody's friendly. I have not yet seen any activities because my uncle has just been there for a week or so. They have things that he can be involved with even though he's not interested right now, but I think with time he will be. They're very welcoming."

"I have been to Brookdale Portage twice to look at the place and I'm actually going back there with my son. It was a very nice place. I liked that they had larger bedrooms. The facility looked lovely. It was very nice, clean, and very neat. The staff has been there for many years. I was able to talk to some of them, who have been there for 17 and 19 years, and that tells a lot. The food was delicious. The chef sat at the table with us, gave us a beautiful salad with vegetables and fruits, and everything was cut and displayed beautifully."

"I visited Bickford of Portage. What I like most about Bickford of Portage is the location, and they followed up. They have pretty much the same room as the other place. You have to bring your own furniture such as your bed. They also have indoor spaces, a beauty shop, and transportation."

"My mom has been a resident of StoryPoint Portage for 10 months now. It's a very pleasant environment. The staff is outstanding. They're just very friendly, caring caregivers. They go above and beyond. She has just an efficiency. The food is very good. My mom doesn't participate in any activities, but we use the beauty salon services. They have an excellent beautician. There is a very nice courtyard. It's enhanced living. The executive director there knows that we're real pleased with the facility. It's very positive and very pleasant. I just think in general, assisted living and caregiving is just way too expensive."

"We toured Provision Living at Oshtemo, and I was very impressed. It's very clean and well-run. They're very friendly there. It's just that they only have 11 rooms in memory care, so that didn't work for our needs. The administration person that I talked with was very well-versed and knowledgeable."

"Woodland Terrace was excellent. The food was very good. It was very clean, very neat, and very organized. They had nice rooms with nice lights and fresh air, and everything smelled good. Everything about it was good. The staff was very accommodating and very cheerful. They brought everybody ice creams in the afternoon and were just upbeat and uplifting. The rooms were bright and clean. They had a lot to do, like taking you by bus to concerts and different tables set up for games. The director was there walking from table to table. However, the area was in the middle of a field near nothing and perhaps it would be easier if something was closer to take people to get groceries. They were just not close to anything. "
