Harmony At Elkhart

My uncle is now at Harmony at Elkhart. I like it because it's newer, and everything is centrally located for him. The nurse's station is right outside his room, and the dining hall is just around the corner. Everything is new for him, and it makes it nice that everything is convenient. The staff is amazing. They keep in contact with me. They let me know what's going on. They let me know what the plan is for the future. They're amazing people. It's very clean and very nice. Everybody's friendly. I have not yet seen any activities because my uncle has just been there for a week or so. They have things that he can be involved with even though he's not interested right now, but I think with time he will be. They're very welcoming.

Harmony At Elkhart is a brand-new community. It's just down the street from my parents' house and it is great. There are minimal residents, but our concern is if we move mom in there and she runs out of money, we have to move her out. As long as you've got money to afford the cost of living, it's a gorgeous building. It has great apartments and wonderful staff that we met. They have daily activities. They have snacks all the time for the residents. Their menus are posted. They have light housekeeping for the residents and laundry weekly. The staff said they had elevators at least on each end. It was three stories. They have a billiard room and a game room that families could take their family members into. They had studio apartments, one-bedroom apartments, and two-bedroom apartments. Every one of the staff members was friendly. The cleaning ladies who were in the hallways were saying hi and greeting us. The sales rep that took us around was great. We didn't meet an unfriendly person. They were nice. It's brand new, so it's still clean. It was presented well and it's well taken care of. The landscaping crews were outside doing some work when we were there.

My parents have moved into Harmony at Elkhart. It is an absolutely beautiful establishment; however, they can't keep help. They do have a lot of issues internally. We've been dealing with the chief executive over these problems. They don't keep nursing staff overnight, and my parents were supposedly going to get some. My mom and dad have created friends there, so that's why I don't want to move them. They need to fix their management, to be better and more effective. The kitchen help and the food are terrible, and that needs to be revamped 100%. They don't have enough staff. They don't wait on you in a timely manner. It takes a long time, and a lot of times the food is cold. There are just a lot of issues with the kitchen. They seem to fire a lot of people. They have no outside excursions right now. They were supposed to provide transportation to doctor's appointments and excursions, and that's not happening. They have art classes and things like that. It's a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment. It is very nice, and they are very well equipped. There's a large living room, a full kitchen, but there is no stove. They got a microwave and granite countertops. The bathrooms are very big and wheelchair accessible, and the showers are walk-in. The apartments and the building itself were absolutely beautiful. They are very expensive. I know that they have hired a chief executive and a healthcare executive, and they are supposedly trying to work at this, so I'm hoping for better things.
