Memory Care Communities in Merrillville, IN

"I toured Arden Courts of South Holland, and all they do there is memory care. The rooms were very nice, seemed very comfortable, very homey, didn't have that institutional type deal. They have their own baths, and since it's memory care, there's no kitchen. The staff who assisted me was very professional and I had no problems with anybody. I got to see everything. The activity area was very nice, the outdoor areas or the courtyard areas were nice, the dining area, everything was first class. The dining area was nice, very cozy, like walking into someone's home. Everything was immaculate and nothing was out of place. They were on the high side, I would have to pick them, but they're very nice. Other than that, I have no complaints about anything."

"My dad is going to be moving into the memory care side of Brookdale Valparaiso. There's a foyer living area with a fireplace and a big TV. I've been there probably four or five times to take things to his apartment, and everyone is just calm, they're sitting in their chairs watching a movie, and they're socially distanced. There are 12 apartments on the left side, 12 apartments on the right side, and a kitchen/dining room in the middle. They have a lovely library and several living rooms where there's a TV, a loveseat, and a chair in these different areas. It is just a lovely layout. When a person moves in on the memory care side, next to each apartment they put together a memory box outside, and they have asked me to think about my dad's life and put little memorabilia in there. The activity director then writes a little story, so if one of the residents stops by, they can read and know that my dad was an ironworker, and that he loves racing cars and whatever. I've never seen that before, it's really lovely! They have a huge outdoor courtyard, there are doors to get to that courtyard, and there're half a dozen patio tables with chairs. The staff said that when the weather is nice they have those unlocked, but it triggers a bell that lets all the employees know that one of the residents is in the courtyard. They know where all the residents are, but I think that's nice, too, so that they don't feel like they're held captive if you will. It feels like a real home, and they know that somebody is going to take care and pay attention to them. I'm just really excited there."

"I have been a resident of Valparaiso Senior Village for eight months now. The residents here are really wonderful, and the staff is just fantastic. I've been very happy here. I've worked with the director on a few things that I've had problems with and wanted to resolve, and she has been wonderful with me. I just can't say anything bad about it. I live in a two-bedroom apartment. It's big and very nice. They also have a couple of two-bedroom apartments, and the rest of them are one-bedroom and studio apartments. They have three floors, and they have a memory care here, but I don't know much about the memory care. I'm on the second floor, but I have no balcony. They have a lot of activities for people to do. Their food is good. They have good cooks. They have a fantastic therapy group, too. They have transportation where they'll take you two days a week from 10 to 2, but most people can't use it because it's an inconvenient time. You can't get doctor's appointments between 10 and 2 that easily, so that's just one of the drawbacks. It's not as clean as it could be. They need more cleaning crew here. I don't use their activities, but many people here do, and they really like them, so I think they're good. I play chess with one of the residents here instead of going to the bingo and bunco."

"We did the independent and the memory care at Residences at Coffee Creek. It was very nice and very clean, just a little on the pricier side. The staff was very nice, answered all our concerns, and showed us each one of the rooms that we were interested in. They were very spacious. It had a little dining table in the kitchenette area. The bathrooms were full size. The bedroom was a decent size as well, with a walk-in closet. It had a little living room. We didn't get to try the food, but they showed us the dining room and the menu. She also showed us where they have a little breakfast thing where the breakfast can be cooked in front of them if they want to order something. The menu looked nice. For breakfast, they had scrambled eggs or different meals that you could choose from. They had a little exercise room where they can go, either to continue therapy or just use the facilities to bicycle, lift weights, or walk up and down the stairs. The facility was very beautiful."

"I chose Victory Centre of Roseland for my aunt because I just fell in love with it. It is very welcoming and pleasant. Every employee that I came across was very nice. Now that my aunt is there, they are so helpful with her. I'm so happy she's getting around OK. She loves them. She told me how everybody is so nice to her and how they speak to her. They call her by her name, and that is important to her. The place is lovely and just friendly. She is doing well going to the dining room. She is loving it because it is so close by. The moment she steps off the elevator, the dining room is right there. Her apartment is not far from the elevators, too. It's just so convenient. They do movies, and they have a salon. They have just been really helpful."

"Bickford of Tinley Park was very nice, but they only accommodate patients 65 and over, and my brother is 60. The room was beautiful. There were residents playing bingo and other residents watching TV. It was a nice, friendly place. They showed me the exercise room and the physical therapy room."

"The people at Arden Courts are very good, very friendly and they treat everybody nicely. We're very happy. "

"This facility is so beautiful! Every time I pass Evergreen Memory Care I am amazed at how this facility adds so much to the community. It draws your eyes to the beautiful landscaping and cleanliness of the grounds. I have heard such wonderful things about Evergreen from friends who are thinking about placing their loved ones in such loving hands. They have nothing but great things to say about the delicious food that the residents rave about and how kind the staff is!! I would recommend Evergreen to anyone. Keep up the good work!!! I am definitely keeping this facility in mind for my parent when the time arises. "

"It was a nice facility. They had activities to do for the residents. Everybody had their own separate room. It seems like they're a little more independent than what I'm looking for. My father-in-law can move and get around, but he doesn't do anything for himself. We have to take him to bath and everything. He can move and walk with his walker, but he's not attentive like that. I guess he has dementia. The staff was real friendly, and she walked me around. Everything was really nice. It was a nice facility, but I think it was more for independent than dependent. They have a game room or a sitting room, where they all have things to do. All the rooms had TVs, and they all had access to the kitchen and everything. They had meals. The layout was really nice."

"I have visited The Legacy part of Spring Mill in Merrillville, it's a separate building but still part of Spring Mill. My brother-in-law will move there from the hospital he's currently in. We were only there for about 10 minutes to sign papers and stuff but it was really nice. Everybody that walked past said hello. It didn't smell, that's one of the things that are on our radar. It seemed very clean and it seemed to be very nice. The director of The Legacy, her name's Cindy, she's very very nice. She's helped us through a couple of situations. We saw activities happening while we were there but we have not seen his actual room yet because of the COVID."

"Very nice,clean. Staff was friendly. Studio apartment was a great size. I'm just not sure my mom can live independently. "

"Our Mother lived at Brentwood of Hobart for the last fifteen months of her life. I can't say enough good things about the staff and the care she received. Upon entering, Brianna or Jason made you feel like you were at home. Sandra the Director was compassionate, professional, and she truly cared about the residents and their families. The Nurses and Aides were outstanding. There are too many to mention, but Dana, Natalie, and all of them went out of their way to treat our Mother well. Nobody likes to see an elderly family member not able to live at their home, but as far as an Assisted Living facility, I would recommend Brentwood of Hobart without reservation. Thanks to all of the wonderful staff members for treating our Mother so well."

"I toured Cedarhurst of Dyer. Everything was excellent. Everything that you want to have in your facility was provided. It's brand new, and I couldn't find anything wrong with it."

"My mother has moved here. It's been very nice. She has been very happy there. The rooms are very nice and very comfortable. My mother is very happy with the staff members. She said they all know her by name for the short time she has been there. The dining is restaurant-style. There are people who individually wait on the tables. They have bingo, exercise classes, and field trips to the store. They have a library, too. My mother hasn't attended too many activities, but they offer everything."
