The Best Memory Care Communities in Lake County, IN

"The residents have individual rooms and a wonderful well kept common area and kitchen. In summer months there is a great front porch and outdoor area in the backyard where residents can gather. The staff is very caring putting residents needs first. My father was in a larger facility where he was just a body. Here he is treated as an individual. He is cared for and loved by the two hearts staff. A smaller home is the way to go for the individual loving care you would want for your aging loved one."

"My dad is going to be moving into the memory care side of Brookdale Valparaiso. There's a foyer living area with a fireplace and a big TV. I've been there probably four or five times to take things to his apartment, and everyone is just calm, they're sitting in their chairs watching a movie, and they're socially distanced. There are 12 apartments on the left side, 12 apartments on the right side, and a kitchen/dining room in the middle. They have a lovely library and several living rooms where there's a TV, a loveseat, and a chair in these different areas. It is just a lovely layout. When a person moves in on the memory care side, next to each apartment they put together a memory box outside, and they have asked me to think about my dad's life and put little memorabilia in there. The activity director then writes a little story, so if one of the residents stops by, they can read and know that my dad was an ironworker, and that he loves racing cars and whatever. I've never seen that before, it's really lovely! They have a huge outdoor courtyard, there are doors to get to that courtyard, and there're half a dozen patio tables with chairs. The staff said that when the weather is nice they have those unlocked, but it triggers a bell that lets all the employees know that one of the residents is in the courtyard. They know where all the residents are, but I think that's nice, too, so that they don't feel like they're held captive if you will. It feels like a real home, and they know that somebody is going to take care and pay attention to them. I'm just really excited there."

"I have been a resident of Valparaiso Senior Village for eight months now. The residents here are really wonderful, and the staff is just fantastic. I've been very happy here. I've worked with the director on a few things that I've had problems with and wanted to resolve, and she has been wonderful with me. I just can't say anything bad about it. I live in a two-bedroom apartment. It's big and very nice. They also have a couple of two-bedroom apartments, and the rest of them are one-bedroom and studio apartments. They have three floors, and they have a memory care here, but I don't know much about the memory care. I'm on the second floor, but I have no balcony. They have a lot of activities for people to do. Their food is good. They have good cooks. They have a fantastic therapy group, too. They have transportation where they'll take you two days a week from 10 to 2, but most people can't use it because it's an inconvenient time. You can't get doctor's appointments between 10 and 2 that easily, so that's just one of the drawbacks. It's not as clean as it could be. They need more cleaning crew here. I don't use their activities, but many people here do, and they really like them, so I think they're good. I play chess with one of the residents here instead of going to the bingo and bunco."

"I recently visited Residences at Coffee Creek to visit with an old friend who now lives in the memory care there. I was so relieved to see how well she is doing. She was so distraught in her home a few months ago, this is such a better fit. The place is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. Her apartment has a nice view of Coffee Creek and when I was there, multiple staff members checked in on us to make sure she was ok. I was impressed and feel she’s in great hands."

"I toured Bickford of Tinley Park. The staff that I met seemed very nice. The girl who gave me the tour was very thorough. I was quite impressed with this facility. The dining area was more like a school cafeteria. The grounds seemed well kept. There was a walking area and a courtyard. There was a group of residents playing a game while I was there. There was a beauty barbershop, and there was a small store."

"The people at Arden Courts are very good, very friendly and they treat everybody nicely. We're very happy. "

"Evergreen Senior Living - Orland Park is very good, it's just that you have to be able to do your own transfers there and it's hard for my mom because she's getting weaker. It's a real issue and everybody's trying. She is in their assisted living. The staff is very friendly and she's very satisfied. They have bingo, games, and movie nights. Around the holidays, they would have barbecues where they invite families over to put up tents and stuff for fall. It's nice."

"We went to Victorian Village. The staff were very nice, answered our questions and they would call back. The rooms were very nice and clean and they were big enough for what we need."

"My tour experience at Marian Village was very positive. We were able to look at several different layouts, and we went over to the cottages. The interesting thing about them is that as people are moving out of their units, they are modernizing them. They're renovating them with new flooring and they're moving from carpeting to hardwood floors. It is just extensive upgrading as these units are turned over, which means you're getting a fully renovated new unit. It's beautiful. It's very clean. I didn't see anything that would set any alarms. The staff member who toured me around was very friendly and very receptive to questions about whatever. She was very open and friendly. There's a lot going on. There was a morning social group meeting in one of their lounges. There was an exercise class going on in the gym. They were setting up to play cards. When we went over to the cottages there was no one in there, but there's a nice recreation room. The cottages had patios. A lot of the units in the newer building had balconies. It's a very open area. There's a paved walking path. There's not much around it. It's really out in the country. We looked at the dining area, but they brought us into their bistro, and we had a complimentary lunch. It was excellent. It was very, very good. We ate in the bistro. "

"I liked Towne Centre. They offered a lot of things. The rooms and the dining area were very nice. The residents were very comfortable, and they seemed nice. The place was beautiful. It had a garden."

"My husband stayed here for three weeks. The staff was wonderful and went above and beyond. His room was nice and big. He did good there. The food was great, and the atmosphere was wonderful. It's really a great place. I saw some seniors participated in the activities."

"My brother is in the memory care unit at Spring Mill Health Campus, and he seems to be enjoying the place. He likes the food, but with his limited memory capacity right now, we just take what he said. The staff is very friendly and nice. My brother has only been there a week, so I can't make a definite determination right now, but what I've seen I'm okay with. I can't really go in too far because of this health crisis; just one person meets me at the door. It's a fairly new place."

"We have secured a place for my husband and it's Cedarhurst of Dyer. It was impressive. I liked it. They had activities. They were doing crafts and coloring. They had TV sessions, and they could watch programs. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the service. The staff was very cordial."

"I was at Brentwood at Hobart for only 15 minutes. They were gracious, and the facility looked nice. It was a welcoming atmosphere. In the end, they had rejected my relative because of his physical condition. The one room I saw was like a suite, and it was very nice."
