We were shown both assisted living and memory care. The tour was very thorough. It's a very nice community, very homey, very clean. Each room had its own individual decorations outside the room to help the occupants in remembering their rooms. That was just very nice. The staff member showed me the activity rooms and the place where they eat. It was a very diverse group of people there, and it was a very nice layout. What I really liked is that they're laid out in a square, so there's a middle court where the occupants can go out to. They can visit that outdoor area to get fresh air, and it's very nice, very beautiful. For anyone with a compromised memory, it would help them find their way back. I also like the fact that their living units were all furnished. They're minimal furnishings, but what was there was sufficient. The staff member who gave the tour was very knowledgeable, she couldn't have been more helpful.

Aviva Merrillville was easy to navigate, very clean, and nice. The staff was very nice as well. It wasn't as big as the other place. It didn't have as many activities or amenities as I was hoping. They didn't have much of a view. They had a nice courtyard. The dining area was very clean and kind of small, but it was very nice and cozy. They didn't allow refrigerators and freezers in the room, and my dad likes to have snacks. That was a huge selling point for me because my dad may not want to eat at 8:00 a.m., 11:00 in the morning, and 4:30 p.m. I don't think that would work for my dad.

My dad is going here. The thing that I liked about it was the peace and calmness of the place. We liked the atmosphere. There was an outdoor space, so they could go out and walk in the courtyard. The staff who gave the tour was so pleasant; I love her. She was very understanding and considerate. She was very patient with me. The cleanliness was fine. It didn't smell. It smelled like a nice and clean place. I think they need to update their foyer area.
