"The agency provides personal care and companionship for my father. Most caregivers have been excellent in knowledge and performance. Be sure to specify what you want the agency to know, loved one's routines, knowledge of special equipment needed, etc. Check invoices carefully. Bookkeeping has not been the most accurate for us, but that's about the only complaint I have."

The Council on Aging is committed to enhancing quality of life and dignity for older adults in Elkhart County by supporting them and their families "“ offering direct services, service referral, choices and guidance for smooth transitions associated with aging. The Council on Aging was formed in the early 1960's to provide information and referral services for older adults in Elkhart County. Today, the Council has grown from being a volunteer run organization offering a single service, to become an integral part of the Elkhart County Communities providing services to help older adults remain in their homes. In-Home Services Are designed to help those who are no longer able to perform tasks to maintain a healthy living environment, but are able to continue living at home. Homemaking Staff assist clients with light homemaking tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the bath, washing indoor windows, light meal preparation, and a variety of other tasks. Attendant Care Staff assist clients with bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, nail care, medication reminders, and other personal care tasks. Respite/Good Friends Staff offer families relief from the demands of keeping an ill older adult at home. Workers relieve family to allow time to take care of their own needs without stress and worry. The respite worker provides important socialization and companionship to the adult at home.

"I am using Griswold Home Care for South Bend and Elkhart for my wife. Everything's been good, so far. I can't complain. They come in and make sure my wife takes a shower. It's only two hours, three days a week, so she doesn't fall. Also, they help her get dressed, pick out her clothes, and help her with her make-up, and get her ready, so she's very presentable. If the weather is decent, she takes her out and sits outside for a little bit with her. They also provide some cleaning in the house. They do sweeping, light cleaning, and things of that sort. The caregiver understands how to speak to my wife. My wife's hard of hearing. She won't wear hearing aids. She used to talk up so she could hear, and they got along very well. I haven't had any problems with them."

"Comfort Keepers is a local in-home care agency. They have provided me with a fantastic caregiver, Sherri W. She has been a TREMENDOUS helper/lifesaver/friend for me and my mom, Evelyn N., was has Alzheimer's. I had to move from my life (full-time job) in Dallas, Texas to bring my mom home to South Bend, Indiana in order for her to be in a more familiar place. When I moved back here last June I was under a tremendous amount of stress from the move, change in my lifestyle AND dealing with my mother's worsening condition. I take care of my in my home 24/7. If it wasn't for Comfort Keepers connecting us with Sherri I don't think I would have made it this far in this journey. She is a wonderful, good-spirited individual who gives mom undivided attention while here and treats her as if she's her own family member. They had sent us several other caregivers who were very kind in their own way BUT mom did not connect with them like she has Sherri. Mom will let her paint her nails, re-pot plants with her, exercise, decorate cakes, etc. - ALL these activities she will NOT engage with me in. She lifts mom's spirits and enjoys her visit. Thank you Comfort Keepers for giving us Sherri W. "

"My wife, Susan, had a stroke 20 years ago that left her totally paralyzed on her left side. I began with Sr1Care about 10 years ago when we moved into their service area. Sr 1Care put together a team of caregivers that were trained in the specifics of caring for Susan. Whenever a caregiver had a family emergency and couldn't come to work, another fully trained caregiver would take over. Unlike previous caregivers we had used, Sr1Caregivers never say "That's not in my job description". Sr1 caregivers help Susan get showered and dressed and they help her with her toileting, as you would expect. They also help Susan with her Kindle reader and her laptop computer. They pick up our little dog and put her in Susan's lap when Susan want's to pet her furry friend. They laugh at her jokes and her stories, even though she has told the same ones over and over and over again. As my health and Susan's health have both declined, we have needed almost 24/7 coverage. Sr1caregivers are well trained to do whatever task is requested, and when no task is needed, they fade into the background so we don't feel like they are intruding on our lives. I can't give enough thanks to Sr1 and all of their staff who have helped Susan, and in the process, helped me."

"The care they provided for Vernon was great. All the caregivers were really good to him. The caregivers had Christian upbringings which was really important to him. They not only helped him with his daily needs but also helped him around the house. We had them for 2 years and didn't have any problems. "
