"Brookdale Oakwood was very nice. They had almost the same amenities and everything as the other facilities, like common areas and activities for the residents, but what I liked was that they had a pet dog in the facility (my mom loves dogs). They also had a fish tank and a bird cage with some birds in it. The staff was very nice. They showed us a studio."

"Brookdale Beavercreek has turned out to be the perfect fit for our loved one. Since the day he arrived (and multiple staff came to greet him and make him feel welcome) he has been happy & content. The complex is small, residents are kind and caring and the staff is highly involved. His apt is cleaned twice weekly, laundry completed and they are always cleaning & maintaining the property itself. He is encouraged to participate in activities and does so. Nursing staff is on it—great communication about his care. When touring properties, ask yourself what is the best fit for your loved one—we had a not great experience in a fancier setting, with lots of staff turnover. We highly recommend Brookdale Beavercreek."

"We went to Traditions of Beavercreek yesterday. It's an excellent facility. The facility itself was neat and clean. The staff were very cordial and kind to each other. I saw them helping several people. It seemed like there were a lot more people in the main building who were in more advanced stages than my husband and I. We are still independent. We looked at the independent homes and we're very impressed. It's a very good facility. They let us take home information about their activities and their menu. We saw their dining area. The lobby was very gorgeous. It was very impressive. It seemed like a really good facility."

"We toured 10 Wilmington Place. It seemed very nice. It was the best place I've been to. The room is as small as you can get. It's not very big. The upkeep was outstanding. The dining room looked fine. There were several, and the place has three floors. I think there's a dining room on each floor. The parking lot was a little crowded. The room has windows all around. It looked down over Dayton. There wasn't so much a patio; it was more like a big porch with windows."

"My mom was at Bickford of Middletown for respite for a week. The place was very nice, she was in one of those efficiencies that had a kitchenette. The bed was in the area where you have your chair or a TV, they had a bathroom and a closet, and everything was very nice. They also had a microwave and refrigerator. But right now, the length of stay for respite is a minimum of 30 days. The staff was wonderful with her, she loved it there. They had activities and cooking, and they were very attentive, they still call from time to time. I didn't try the food, but everything was homemade and Mom really enjoyed it and liked it. They had a place where you could go and get your hair and nails done, they have bingo, arts and crafts, and happy hour. They had kind of a meet and greet thing where they could go and sit and have coffee and a pastry, and just chitchat. They had a library where you could borrow books and drop off books and stuff like that too."

"Traditions of Lebanon is a lot nicer than the other place. I am kind of considering it. It's a smaller community, but it basically has everything you need. It is like a neighborhood or like suburbia with independent quarters, but they are like condos, and you are renting the space. One of the best parts is that they have attached garages, minimal kitchens, and nice little patios. They have a community clubhouse, and then they have the main building where you would go for meals and stuff if you want to. They charge extra for the meals, though. I think there were many meals a week included with your rental, and then you could add more meals if you wanted. The community was all walkable. They had nice sidewalks around the area. They even had a garden area, which was kind of nice. The only discount to that would be that they didn't have additional levels of living. It was strictly independent. I don't remember being totally impressed with the dining area, but it was nice. They occasionally have barbecues and things like that, and they have a nice gathering area there, too."

"The facilities are clean and organized. The staff treated my dad incredibly well and went above and beyond, in my opinion (one example was singing to him at night to help him fall asleep!). My dad enjoyed the home-cooked food, and meal time seemed more like a family dining affair than a typical senior living cafeteria style meal. I recommend OSL for sure!"

"We visited the independent living community of Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community, and we liked it. It was spacious, and everything was clean and nice. The other places we looked at were too crowded. This is more of what we were looking for. The staff members were friendly and knowledgeable. The day we were there, they were closing early, so we didn't have food, but they gave us food vouchers to come back if we wanted to. They also had all the amenities we wanted, like a pool and all that stuff."

"We toured The Winfield at Middletown. They're a very nice place. I would move in there myself. We ask about the menu. We got to go down and see the cafeteria and take a tour of the entire facility. The rooms are nice. It's like having your own little apartment. You can furnish them with your own furniture, your own couch, recliner, whatever you want. They were spacious. Everything was very clean. They had a therapy room. The lady took us to a room and was so nice and explained everything about the facility, the pricing, and so forth, and what she had available. I wouldn't even call it a nursing home. It was immaculate. They're very reasonably priced too."

"We toured the assisted living community of Aaron's Garden Senior Living & Memory Care for my mom. It was nice and clean when we went in. The tour person or the admission person was very kind and answered all of our questions. The rooms were also very nice and immaculate. There weren't many residents there because I guess they were on a field trip or an outing, but the residents seemed very happy there. The place smelled clean and had a nice home-like feel, which is what I liked about it. It is small and intimate. If they didn't have that long waiting list, that's the place that I would have trusted my mother to be in, because even the staff seemed friendly and very attentive to the residents' needs. In the other places I went, they didn't even greet me, and I think that's very important. When you go somewhere, the staff members should always greet you with a smile, and I was greeted with a smile there. It just made me feel comfortable and welcome. It made me feel like my mother would be welcome there, too."

"Shawnee Estates Senior Living is very nice. It's probably the one we're going to select. The rooms are big, and the service is very good. They're very polite and informative. They showed us the activities that they have in the facility, different lounging areas, where they sometimes eat, and where they feed them."

"We toured Fairborn Assisted Living. They were very friendly, and my sister was impressed with them. We went to the memory side, and they did not have any openings at the time, so she was on the waiting list. When we walked out of the building, she said that's where she wanted to be. All of us had a positive experience with them. The person who gave the tour took us over to the assisted living side as well to just kind of show us the first floor, which had the dining room and the living room area. They have an activity room and a patio that's enclosed, so everybody can go outside if they want to. It was a little garden area with a couple of benches underneath a covered overhang where the residents could sit and talk, which was kind of nice. We were out there for a couple of minutes. The memory care unit is a lockdown unit, and the residents are escorted to the assisted living side by a staff member so they can participate in activities whenever they want, and then they are escorted back to the memory care side. The family members are given a code to be able to get into the memory side whenever they want to come and visit, so they have access, but the residents that are there are locked down in case they have wandering issues. We did not go into the assisted living side of the dining room, but the memory care has a breakfast area there. They have 14 residents on the memory side, so it was big enough for 14 of them to have a meal together. From what I was told, the person who does the cooking makes meals according to the residents' tastes."

"My mom has moved into Garden Manor, which is right off a major highway. They have lots of parking. Garden Manor has large hallways and nice rooms. My mom is confined to a bed, so she has to have assistance getting dressed and being fed. It's a nursing home with an assisted living wing. My mom doesn't participate in activities; however, they have church, movie, bingo, and a group that likes to knit."

"My mother has been in Grace Brethren Village. It's a rehab facility, and we've been pleased with it. Her condition has deteriorated a little bit, even though she's progressing with her rehab. She has had a couple other things come up that complicated the rehab, although that's good, and they are continuing to work with her, and continue to say she is improving. They have kept the family involved with One Call Now's phone messages, and they did do a Zoom with family last week, just to get everybody on board on the current events of the virus, and the current events of flu vaccines and all that, that they will be getting together. All in all, we're pleased with the facility. They've got the PT and the OT that they're working with her with. They have some things that they can bring in that she can do. They are taking her down to the great room for meals to interact with other people. They have had facilities where you can take the family member outside for walks and view the grounds, and different things like that. I've been there a couple of times when she's eating, and it tastes very good. They're working with her and doing very well. She's had a couple of bumps in the road that they are working with and trying to get her through too, so that's good."
