They give very good service. They do physical therapy, occupational therapy, there is a nurse, and some guy gives my mom a shower. I like them. They're very compassionate and good. Everybody is nice. Communication with them is very good. When I ask them about something, they try to explain it to me. I will tell my recommendation to everybody about their home service; it's very good."

"I've been using Countryside Living and Elderly Home care since last year. I'm in a wheelchair and I can't stand up and walk, so right now, I'm in therapy. They provide care. The caregiver comes in at 8 a.m. and leaves at 12. Then they come back until I can get myself transferred into bed. They come back at 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. They do the laundry. My husband was here when they first came but he had passed away last September, and so it is just me that they have to care for. They usually help me with breakfast after they get me washed up and dressed. In the meantime, they tidy up the house. They don't do any heavy cleaning but they do take care of the clothes and the bed linens. They also do a few things like take the trash out. Overall, they just do anything that I needed done. They help me when the therapist comes to help with what they do. I'm satisfied with them and I don't have any problems at all. There were three different people that came, and with my experience with those three, this would be the best. If someone is late or too sick to come, they send somebody, so that I'm not left alone."

Another local option is assisted living. At over $1,000 less per month, on average, than home care or home health aides, residence in these facilities is an affordable option for the area — and unlike adult day care, it requires no commute. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
