Assisted Living Communities in Ocala, FL

"I liked it a lot. What I didn't like was that they had mentally challenged people living among the other people. They didn't have them separated. They had the memory care, and they might have another section, but they still had people with memory care walking around with the others. The one day that I was there, I saw this gentleman walking around, and he couldn't find his room. He wanted to go up to the second floor, and there is no second floor. It's all one floor. It could've been that they only have that one man that's like that, but it scared me. The staff was wonderful. They didn't want us to go into the dining room, but they arranged to have us eat in a guest room. The gentlemen ate with us, so we could ask him questions. That way we weren't exposed, and we weren't exposing other people. They were all wonderful. I couldn't complain about any of their directors or anything. The girl that brought the food couldn't have been any more helpful. They outdid themselves. They were excellent. The food was excellent. It was real clean. The grounds were beautiful. I went into one of the general bathrooms that guests can use in the hall, and they were clean. They had a very nice library, and they had large print books. They show movies, and they have areas where you can sit and just chat with other people or read, so you don't have to stay in your room all the time."

"I toured Canterfield of Ocala. I wanted my mom to go there because it was beautiful. It's very nice and half the price. I liked the rooms and how they were designed. I liked the services that they provided. The assistant manager was so helpful. It was an open room waiting to be filled with furniture, but it was perfect the way it was designed. I would recommend it as one of the top choices."

"I visited Highpoint at Stonecrest. They have a swimming pool, and it's beautiful and new. I liked everything that I saw. The whole facility is a five plus. The staff was wonderful, very friendly, and very informative. Everything about it was professional. I did see the dining room. It's like a restaurant. The cleanliness was superior. We went in the lobby, which was very well organized, clean, and well maintained. There's plenty of seating. They had a snack bar in there. It's like a hotel lobby. To me it was superior. The only drawback I saw was that the cost to stay there was too expensive from what I can afford."

"They make it a point of getting to know you and your loved one and their needs. Although our dad was in for a very brief period we knew we had chosen the right place. We were able to sample the food and explore the entire facility. Food was good and the staff were never without a friendly greeting. Thank you to everyone for caring for our dad. Much appreciation."

"We were given a handful of places to tour, and Freedom Pointe at The Villages was the first one we looked at. Every other one we looked at after that didn't even compare, and every place we went just made it look better. The cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff, the facility, and just everything. My parents moved to their assisted living facility. It's my first experience with assisted living, and the odd part for me, my parents are absolutely fine with it, is that while it's technically a 1-bedroom but the bedroom wall is not completely closed off. That's a little different for me, but my parents don't have a problem with it. They seem to like it and maybe that's how others are, too. The staff comes by often to get their trash taken out daily and do their laundry. They're also very attentive, all the different staff. I have tried their food and my parents love it. They really went above and beyond, and all the staff seemed happy to be there."

"I was most impressed with HarborChase of Villages Crossing. It was the nicest of the three we visited. The lady who showed us around was wonderful. She spent a lot of time with us answering our questions. They have things like a salon where they can do hair and nails. It was beautiful. It was also landscaped beautifully outside. The rooms were really nice. They had a little bistro-type of thing, which had excellent coffee and scones. They even gave us scones to bring home. It was just very nice. They had a separate dining area for the memory care people, which was really nice. They could snack at any time, which is good for my mother because she likes to snack at odd hours."

"My husband has been at Always There Assisted Living. Right now, I don't see any problem with it. They have an assisted living house, they have a lockdown unit house, and then they have one where they cook all the meals and stuff. Where my husband is, there is only room for 12 people in that house. He seems to be a lot happier there than he has been in the big facility. They're very good. Everybody treats the patients very well. I've sat there for a couple of hours and watched them have lunch, and they get good care there. I wish there were more places like that around here. It feels more like home because it's a house. I think a lot of people would enjoy having their family in a place like that. All the staff members I've met are very nice and very sweet. I heard from one of the workers that some of them love my husband so much that they want to put him in their pocket and take him home with them. However, at lunch, they only get one vegetable. I think they should have at least two vegetables and one meat. I also met the lady that does activities, but I haven't been there when they're doing things with them."

"The Harrison of Wildwood was excellent. It was very neat. They were friendly. They showed us the rooms and the facilities. They answered all my questions about extracurricular activities and stuff like that. The rooms were very adequate for one person. The place was clean, and it smelled good. The dining area was very nice and spacious. The tables weren't crammed together, and that kind of stuff. That would be a place I would seriously consider for my mother. I thought the staff was very good and very thorough. We visited the exercise room. I was just very impressed with the place. It was very nice, spacious, and clean. I went into the restroom while I was there, and it was very clean. The residents smelled clean, and so did the rooms."

"I thought Sumter Senior Living was very nice. The only thing I can say is that I thought the food was not great. They kept their residents entertained, and they had a lot for them to do. The layout was good. There was not an outdoor smoking area, but they did allow pets, which was very nice. The staff was very, very nice, too. However, I felt like the dining situation was a little confusing. It was kind of disorganized."

"I visited the Village Veranda at Lady Lake's assisted living, and it was very nice. The building is fairly new, and the whole area is beautiful. The person who gave the tour was very nice and gracious. She explained everything nicely. There's nothing I can complain about the place. It looked very nice. I looked at the one-bedroom unit, which is what I was interested in, and it's very nice. A little bit smaller than what I've seen in one or two other people's bedrooms who are in assisted living, but there's nothing wrong with the room."

"I walked in the facility and the staff were all very friendly asked if they could help, told me to please pardon the remodel, the facility is old, but they have new hard wood floor in place and are still working on it. The lunch was wonderful, and staff did say everything is made fresh, had a wonderful taste to it. The activity area is small but the residents said they enjoy all the things they do here. I will be placing my family member here, it has a home like feel and everyone is very welcoming."

"I went to look at Highland Place. The people are friendly. Even the people that live there now are very friendly. It's a convenient place for my mother and her friends if they want to visit. It's close to her house. If a family wants, they can stay in her house and visit her. She loved the food. She's been there for lunch a couple of times, and the food has been fabulous. The cleanliness is fabulous. Every room I saw this nice and spotless. They have a TV and movies."

"I chose The Reserve at Citrus for Mom because of the continuation of service. Should my mom get more ill or whatever, or her memory, this goes to continuous care. It felt like a place to go and live, not a place to go down. They have activities, programs, and caring people. Everything to make you want to live and have a good life. Her apartment, it's the cutest dorm room we've ever seen. The food is excellent and has a nice variety. The dining room staff knows everybody by name, and are very personable. The facility is very clean and very comfortable. We recently saw the dining room and we saw the library. We saw the activities room. We saw where they hold worship services and the common areas where they do their exercises. My mother already loves it there. She'd been there for a week."
