"Always There's staff was very friendly. The room we were shown was ridiculous though. The width of the room was the width of a bed so it was ridiculously tiny. We saw other shared rooms though where the size was reasonable. A resident we spoke to while we were waiting told us she was bored, and the residents we saw were really just sitting in their rooms and not doing anything. The staff was friendly and the outside surroundings were very nice and wooded."

"Brookdale Canopy Oaks was clean, quiet, and very homey. I spoke to Leah and the woman at the door and they were very nice and helpful. The studio and one-bedroom units were very clean, updated, and apartment-type. So, it was nothing like a hospital or a nursing home type. There's dining, transportation, little day trips, games, and plenty of activities for the residents. They have a library, a courtyard, and a woman that would do someone's hair and nails."

"It was a beautiful place. It's almost five-stars. It's very, very nice. I was toured by a salesperson, and it was a great tour. We got to see an apartment and all the facilities. It was a one-bedroom apartment and pretty much brand new. It had a beautiful kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, a laundry area, and it was very spacious. They also had a theater, a bar, or social area where you can have drinks and have a community kind of hang out. There were two or three restaurants, an exercise room, a pool, and pretty much everything you'd want in an assisted living environment. I think it's really one of the nicest ones around, but it's a large community, and it would not work out for my dad, he would get lost. There were a lot of long hallways where you couldn't quite know where you were."

"My mother-in-law has moved into the Reserve at Citrus. It's very clean. There's nothing I don't like. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. It smells clean in there, too. It's very well-maintained. It's very modern and updated. They have church services, trivia, and bingo. There's something going on every hour. It's a very well-structured community. Everyone's very friendly. We feel safe with her there."

"We put my father here, and it's wonderful. The staff is excellent. They call us for any little thing my dad might need or just to give an update on how he’s doing if he’s having a bad day. The apartment is really nice and has a nice window with a nice view. The food is excellent. The staff, from the cleaning staff to the RNs, are just wonderful. We’re very happy to have him in there. They’re exceptional. They have ice-cream socials in the memory care area where my dad lives. They have a history quiz and movie night with ice cream sodas, a library, and a "retrain your brain" activity every night, so they do a lot of things there."

"I visited New Horizon of Inverness. The staff was very friendly, everybody seemed very happy, and nobody seemed depressed or ignored. There was a physical therapist bouncing around with an old lady, the administrator that took me around knew everybody by name, the the janitor was fantastic and very friendly. It's a very nice place, with a country setting, and very laid back. However, it was very expensive."

"Hawthorne Inn of Ocala was an average facility, but the interaction I saw between the residents was excellent. They were interactive. It's good. We were in the dining area because it was around lunchtime, and Dad got to see the interaction of people there and was concerned about the language barrier. Most of them were only English speaking, and he's a Spanish-speaking 99%, He wanted to make sure that the location had some bilingual people or people who spoke his language so he could interact with them properly. We visited the three types of room sizes. They were adequate. The room size, for our standards for one person, was kind of in the middle range. It wasn't that big. The hallways were clean. Everything's OK. We went through a library area where the residents got to pick books and read. They had somewhat of a selection. It wasn't a huge selection. Then we stepped outside. In our opinion, the outside was not an appropriate interaction for outdoor activities because there was none, other than a small porch with a couple of seatings. You just kind of sit there and maybe bask in the sun, and that's about it. My dad is more of the outdoorsy type that he would like interactions with a garden or growing tomatoes, or there are animals in the facilities, or just basically gazing and seeing what's going on in there to kind of keep his mind occupied. I personally liked the wood floors. That made it a nice, very homey, and warm feeling. The staff was friendly. All the spaces that I visited were clean. I got a peek at their activity room or craft room where they were doing some painting or something like that, and it was small because this looks like a smaller facility than the other one we visited. I saw their menu and they had a variation of items."

"I toured Highland Place yesterday. I like it because each room has its own bathroom, which is a plus for me. At some other places, there are two people per room, and you're sharing a bathroom, and I'm not a big fan of that. The place looked very clean, and I liked that. The person who gave the tour was very informative, and we had a pretty good tour, taking in all the features that they have. It was a good tour. Something important for me since I'm with a VA with my medical care is that, once a week, they have physician assistant coming in from the VA to talk to people that might need care one way or another, and I thought that was a really nice thing, as opposed to me trying to report myself to a VA facility. So I thought that was really nice."

"My mom moved into Camelot Chateau Assisted Living. The atmosphere is very friendly. The residents and whatnot seem to be very involved. The staff there is engaging and they have activities that are pretty engaging as well, something for everyone. She's getting to see the doctors promptly. They are taking care of her. She likes the food. It's just a nice place. She has plenty of room for just herself, and my mother enjoys it. It's an older facility. They take them weekly to Walmart. Sometimes they go to parks, or out to eat. The buses provide service for the residents there. They have a lot of card games and bingo, and outside like cornholes. And they could do exercises. I do think they have a room for religious activity, maybe meetings, things like that. So they keep everyone pretty much involved in things. There's not a lot of sitting around. They try to engage everyone to do things."

"My friend is at Brookdale Chambrel Pinecastle. We do lots of emails and phone calls, and they're very responsive. They give out newsletters. Her room is very nice and nice sized. The staff is fantastic, most friendly, and absolutely amazing. They updated the room because they rushed to get it ready for her, so the room was fixed the following day. They provided furniture, which is super nice, and saved money for us. The location is good. It's a nice area. They don't provide furniture to everybody, but they did it for us, and I thought that was very nice. They go out of their way to be attentive. At that time, they were serving food in the rooms, but now they're doing it in their dining room. It's terribly reasonable. The value for the money is amazing."

"We found Brookdale for my mother-in-law. What we liked most about it was the attentiveness of the care. The attitude of the staff was very positive. They were very accommodating. We had some feedback from some of the patients that were there, and that was positive as well. The room was semi-private and recently refurbished, and they were installing an additional wall to accommodate us. We had not tasted the food, but according to the patients, the food was very good. She would be going there on Friday, and she would be evaluated for 30 days. In the memory care section, the activities were numerous in terms of types of section they had on a daily basis. The programs seemed to be very well laid out and planned. They seemed to be accommodating in terms of specific needs for my mother-in-law. She needed some assistance in the morning; they could accommodate that. My wife and I believed that she would not stay in memory care; she would go in the general population. I thought they were really bending over backwards to accommodate us. "

"We went and looked at Hampton Manor at Deerwood. My mom told me she liked all the activities, and she enjoyed the staff while we were there, but she was nervous about the different levels. She didn't like that. The staff members were all very friendly. They showed us the rooms. They were very nice, and it looked like they were very accessible for people who were in wheelchairs. They were pretty large and there's plenty of room. The activities differ all the time, so we don't know everything they have. They had card games, and they had a sitting area that my mom would like, so she could go outside in the courtyard getting some sun in there, and things like that. They have a nice sitting room in there with a TV. It was pet-friendly, so some residents have pets. Their dining area was large and the tables were spaced out very well for residents to get around."

"We have chosen Buffalo Crossings Assisted Living for my parents. My mom had been there before for rehab, so it was easy for us to move them. We had to do it within a matter of two days. My dad was in the hospital, and he was getting released. We live a thousand miles away, so we needed to get something done super quick. They were super helpful to help us do that. They have provided all the services that we really needed for my parents. They also have all kinds of stuff, like Bible studies, classes, reading clubs, dancing, and little social get-togethers. They have more than enough to keep them busy."

"A Banyan Residence - The Villages was very nice. It was just too expensive for us, but it was very nicely done unlike any of the other places that I've ever been to. Normally, if you go into an assisted living/nursing home/rehab or any of that, you have two beds in the same room and a curtain. No privacy. Over there, they have the bed then a sliding barn door. In the middle, there's the bathroom and the kitchenette area, then there's another sliding barn door to another bed. They both have a door for them to come out. They have a garden that's closed in, so they can't run away. It's beautiful. From the time that I walked in the door, the lady was super friendly. The gentleman who toured us around was also very friendly, very knowledgeable, very caring, and understanding. He even followed up with a phone call to see if there's something that they could help my mom with. So, they were very, very nice people. They have a movie theater, an ice cream parlor, an arts and crafts room, and different activities. It's a very down-to-earth place. It's a home-like setting. It doesn't feel like a nursing home or an assisted living. It's just really, really nice. I liked it."

"We went here. It was very nice. The girl I talked to was nice. She brought me all over. She explained everything. The place was gorgeous. They had a nice place. We just wanted a studio, and she showed us that. It was quite large for a studio for one person. It was very clean. They brought us all around. It was very beautiful, and it was clean. It's very new to me, and it's close to our home. It was excellent. The staff was very good, and very thorough, and she answered all my questions. I was with her for quite a while. She showed me all the facilities and the pool."

"Sumter Grand is totally independent living. It has lots of stuff going on and is a little bit more expensive and a little newer. It has a big, lavish lobby and an open bar area where you can go in and eat. This place has a very fancy area where you can get flavored water with fruits, croissants, cookies, and all kinds of coffee. The advantage of living in Sumter Grand is the fact that you are a member of The Villages, so you have all rights of The Villages and can go to all of those shindigs, which is a very big advantage because we are very social. We like to get out and get around. They have every kind of club, too. You can have your car downstairs in shaded parking. The first thing you see is the dining room, which is buffet-style for the most part. For breakfast, I know they are definitely a buffet. We ate in the saloon, which is right next door, and the food was delicious. "
