Located in the northeastern region of Illinois about 20 miles southwest of Chicago and 10 miles east of Naperville, Willowbrook promotes easy access to high-performing hospitals and medical facilities. The village is located 20 miles from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, which is ranked the best in the state. It’s also close to Edward Hospital’s main campus and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center. Of the village’s roughly 8,600 residents, about one in four are seniors, enjoying access to community-based services and government-sponsored programs that promote older adults’ independence and quality of life.
Following hospitalization, many older adults need continued care before returning to their home environment. Nursing homes provide 24-hour care and monitoring and are staffed by licensed health care professionals and trained aides. According to the Genworth 2020 Cost of Care Survey, this level of care is expensive at $8,076 per month. Seniors who need personal care services without skilled nursing support may be better served in assisted living facilities or via home care, which are generally considerably more affordable.
This guide provides more information on the cost of senior care in Willowbrook, along with a list of resources for older adults.

We moved my mom into Chateau Center Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, but unfortunately, she passed. She was in long-term care, and she was only there for a week. They were pretty good. They were better than the rehab she was at earlier. It was nice, it was clean, but it was old. It was very friendly. Everyone said hi to you. Like all the workers, they were very friendly. You’d walk in there, they’d all say hi. My mom complained about the food, but it seemed okay. The room was above average. Her room did not have a TV though. There was a dresser, and she had a good view of a pond, so that was kind of nice. It was a nice room.

My mother was approved for rehab at Oak Trace. I visited the facility. It was everything we were looking for. We are excited about the transition. Oak Trace found out that she needed a series of injections in her knee which would provide stability and allow her to benefit from rehab. We offered to cover the cost of the shots ($1600). They said medicare would not allow us to pay. The day she was scheduled to move the reneged on the placement and we are now scrambling to find another placement.
We found 2 other facilities that will cover the cost but not geographically convenient. They say they are a non-profit but operate more like a for profit corporation. Beware!

Very disappointed in the facility. It was great when it was Holy Family and Religious women worked there. It has really gone downhill since becoming symphony. I am looking for a new facility. It is no longer as clean, the nurses hang around the station chatting with each other when residents are screaming for help, and the food leaves a lot to be desired. I had to interrupt the nursing staff hen fest to get them to reposition a patient who was screaming in pain and all twisted in his wheelchair. Unacceptable! They serve crusty hard to cut pieces of breaded chicken (mostly breading) that is too difficult for the residents to cut so they don’s eat as much. No longer impressed and residents are not getting what they are paying for. They need supervisors who know what the staff is doing and not doing, and nurses who care. So sad.

First of all we never plan to place a loved one away from his or her home. Upon entering a facility, a calm should come across. That is what I felt within a few moments. Still not liking the idea, we were greated with extreme politeness, and concern. The staff upon our walk through was was warm and professional. Still the thought of how our loved one would adapt was a concern. The staff will cater to your needs until you realize, you have to allow them to care for your love one. After we got past ourselves, we saw the staff in action, we as a family we can now say, our Mom is being well taken care of and her quality of life has improved 100%. We are grateful and we let the staff know. I will say this you can place your love one in a million dollar facility, if you do not let the staff know how important that person is to you by how you visit and how you care, what do you expect. They will care like you do. That is what you want.Again we as a family are very pleased with Weschester Health and Rehabilitation Center. My Mom’s room is quaint. The rooms are very clean, no harsh smells, the grounds were beautiful during the summer, plenty activities. Nice place.

I liked Aperion Care Burbank. It was the best one we found, even though they had three beds in the room. The place looked clean. It was the cleanest one. Our issue is that we wanted my friend to have a private room. It is a nursing home and rehab. The staff was very good and very cordial. They gave the tour and answered questions that I had. They were tending to the residents. There were three residents per room, and they had their own TVs, closets, and bedside tables. The whole place was clean.
One thing I liked about them is that they have the residents get out of their rooms to go to the cafeteria area. They take them outside for walks. They don’t let them lay in bed all day like some of these places do. They get them up and out. They have activities for those that are able to do the activities. They have an activity room. They have a room with a bike and treadmill. There are also small things they can do with their arms, if they’re able to do so. A lot of them are in wheelchairs. My friend is in a wheelchair, too.
When I went there, they were kind of congregated in the cafeteria area. They were just doing their thing. They were eating. They had a gathering, and nobody was in their rooms. They were all outside, and their beds were made up. It was clean.
They have a schedule of what they get for their meals every day. My friend is diabetic, and the staff said they have alternatives to the meal plan. If somebody doesn’t like this or that, there are some alternatives to the meals that they give them. There is some construction going on right now on both sides of their street. It is easy to get to, and they have parking. The grounds are cared for and manicured.
The only drawback is we were trying to find a private room for her, but they have three beds in there. The staff told me that when they bring the residents in, they put them in a room by themselves so they can evaluate what their temperament is. They try to put them in a room with somebody that compares to their personality, which I thought was a good thing.

My brother is currently staying at Grove of Berwyn. I can’t go in there, we’re not allowed in. The staff member said when I dropped things off for him they had to have a paper signed for that. The staff has always been nice, I could say that. The social worker, kind of overworked, it took a while to get all the paperwork done, but she did it and we did speak, and I understand when someone has a lot on their plate because I think she works at different facilities. Just for the fact that it is a nursing home, there’s nothing there for him to do. With nice weather they would let him stand out at the back chairs that they got there. They were taking him to his VA appointments, his medical appointments, and everything. On the whole, I think they’re probably better than some nursing homes I heard complaints about, because my brother’s not really complaining other than that he wants to get out of there because there’s nothing to do, so I guess I would say they’re OK. I have nothing to say negative about them. I’m kind of neutral because all of the staff that I talked to were all very nice. They do not have any activities that I know of, there’s nothing going on there. Every now and then they have a, I want to say therapist, not that he needs therapy, but they would take him out of the room for exercising so he walks around. There’s no reason, physically, for him to be there, mentally either. He just loves to walk around and they had him lifting weights. I thought they might have been based more on somebody that comes to do therapy with other patients and they just kind of dragged him to do some stuff so that he wasn’t just sitting there comatose.

This has been one of the worst health care facilities I have been subjected to. My mother was admitted yesterday straight from Good Sam’s. We were told there was a bed for her. When we arrived, there was not. We waited for two hours. Finally when we were assigned a bed we got escorted up stairs just to see her bed was already occupied. They had to kick that person out. My mother went in. They did not clean the sheets. We wait 4 hours before being seen by a nurse……. Despite our efforts to get someone’s attention since she was in extreme pain. The nurse Felicia came by. She was rude and aggressive. She did not follow through on anything we asked her to do to help. Felicia switched shifts and it took 3 hours to see the other nurse. She had the audacity to say she did not have my mothers pain medication. She used the words “we don’t have any” that’s when we decided to pull my mother out and go to northwestern ER. DO NOT GO HERE. It was horrific.

We chose Dimensions Living Burr Ridge for my mom for its location. She’s in their skilled nursing part, and the staff seems very caring and attentive to my mom. She’s on soft food right now. It’s good for her. I like the fact that if she gets better, she can go to memory care. They also have assisted living, and everything is in the same building. They have a salon and outdoor seating. It’s pricey, but all of them that I have seen have been expensive. I guess I’m getting what I’m paying for.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Willowbrook, Illinois
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
