"Tanglewood Trace was very nice and clean. I would highly recommend it. They had activities going on. They have entertainment, which she would have enjoyed, and the day we were there, they had a happy hour and my mom was tickled. They were also willing to put my mom close to the dining area, and that was a plus."

"I visited the memory care level of Brentwood at Niles and it was very good. The rooms were really clean, nice, and spacious. The residents were OK. They were just sitting around when I was there. The dining area was nice and clean. I also looked at their assisted living. The staff member who showed us around, I was very impressed with her, but she didn't call me back. I think they have one room that has a TV and an aquarium, and it was really good. In terms of the food, I think the residents can ask for what they want to eat."

"The apartments are very spacious. My loved one is able to retain their independence but have have services that help make their life easier so there’s more time to enjoy activities and friends. The food is amazing and the staff is wonderful. I definitely recommend Oak Woods Manor to anyone looking for Independent Senior Living with some assistance available."

"We have visited Silver Birch of Michigan City. It was very clean, there were a lot of activities for the people there, and it seemed like they had a very good meal plan. The rooms are very spacious. We only spoke with one staff member, we didn't interact with very many. They have bingo, they also have a puzzle room, billiards, and they have some ladies there who put together a weekly fun night for the girls."

"We went to look at Trail Creek Place. The room they showed for us was just too small for a couple. I thought for a single person (for myself), it would be just perfect. But for both my husband and I, I just didn't think that the room was large enough for the two of us. The facility was nice and clean. The staff was very nice. She really went out of the way to get information for us, as far as the cost and everything. She was trying to get us some money to help us with the cost of the unit. I did see a calendar that had activities. They have bingo, games, arts and crafts that they could do. I saw that they would bring in entertainment for the patients to keep them busy and stuff."

"My mother is now at Avalon Springs. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say the staff is a 9. The place has different levels of care. My mom is in the assisted living area. They just had a price increase, so I’m now paying about $4,800 a month, which is pricey. The room is just one room with its own bath. It is small. You have your own heater and air-conditioning unit, but the point is this: The facility is very nice. They have good food and entertainment. My mom is a very difficult client, so that being said, they’re probably a 5. There are two different dining areas. Every Friday, they have happy hour with live entertainment. It is nicely run -- as well as it can be. They also have 24-hour nurse care from either LPNs or RNs. They take residents on a couple of outings a week, out to dinner, and to doctor’s appointments. She has been there for three years now. "

"This facility is located in the country of New Carlisle, Indiana. When driving into the community my first thought was that the grounds were beautiful. The receptionist at the front desk was very warm and welcoming. The entry was outstanding and very clean cut. I was there to shadow the Activities Department which is one of the most organized and friendliest staff I have ever encountered. While touring the building I was aloud to view one of the apartments in the Assisted Living quarters. The apartments are spacious and accommodating. When I met some residents they seemed to really enjoy where they live and had nothing bad to say about the community. I was very impressed with what I saw and would recommend this facility to seniors needing assistance with their daily routines and concerned families. "

"My dad was in Symphony Chesterton for rehabilitation, and it was very nice. He was in rehab, so his room was just a basic room, nothing fancy, but it was clean and nice. He had heart issues, so they have him walk and do things like that. There were just strengthening therapies. The staff was nice and cooperative. They did try to get him out of there as soon as possible, but I didn't feel he was quite ready to leave. They were good with activities. They had a nice dining room, they had a lot of extra activities for them to do, and they had get-togethers that you could attend if you wanted to."

"Pines Village had a more of a home feeling. They have gardens and pines, bus service and a small cafe. They have aging in place and whatever apartment they live in they can be independent residents and if they need assisted living they can stay in the same apartment. My aunt and uncle have a one-bedroom apartment with a patio, small kitchenette and a large handicap bathroom. They have PHBs that the residents wear and if they need help they can push the PHBs. They have aides, nurses and case managers 24 hrs a day. They have chef prepared food, outings to different places, theaters, casinos and they have church every Sunday. I can't say anything bad about Pines Village. "

"Green Oaks of Valparaiso was spotless, and the people there were friendly. I liked the staff I talked to. They were very nice. I talked to a few people, and then we ate there. They gave us lunch, and it was good. Really, really good. So I would rate this community very highly. The staff who gave the tour was really nice and very informative. The rooms are beautiful. There are mostly one-bedroom apartments and studios. They have no two-bedroom. It's a fairly new place. It's only a couple of years old. The facility is really nice."

"The facility itself is very nice and attached to a family home which the owners live in. The owners are courteous, friendly, and seem very competent. The residents were well cared for, and had a fairly strict daily routine. The atmosphere was very "homey", with relatives visiting often, including relatives of the owners. The owner's children are also involved in the family business, and together they seem to have created a unique environment for elderly care. There aren't a lot of amenities here, and I guess that keeps it from a perfect 5-star rating. Then again, the activity level of most of the residents seems pretty sedentary - these are elderly individuals with little independence or desire for interaction. "

"I chose it for my parents because it is within 5 miles from where I live. In fact, they have just moved in about a month ago. I like what they offer and I think this is a safe place for them. This place is wonderful. My parents can go everyday and have one meal in their assisted living dining area. There are also a lot of activities that my parents can participate in. The staff members are wonderful people. They really care for their residents and everybody is treated like a family there. The facility itself is very clean. It is just three years old and their little homes are all new. It was a major transition for both my parents and they are missing their home of 44 years, but they're satisfied in this facility and so far, so good."

"Marshall-Starke Development Center is a place where differently-abled individuals are able to work and live in apartments throughout the city of their choice. With over 100 wonderful people within the facility throughout the day, the people who work within this facility are the residents as well. The staff assists the residents or day-workers throughout the day as they do a "paid" job. The jobs are menial in nature, however the residents do get to socialize and work at their own pace. The staff are few and far between, however the night staff is a wonderful group of individuals. These staff members actually stay 24 hours a day within apartments/homes rented by the individuals. This is a really good place for differently-abled individuals to feel like they are worth something, so as to further their well being and self worth. I will continue to advocate Marshall-Starke to everyone who is looking for adult, handicapped assisted living/work place. "
