"One thing I liked about Christian Village is that you could go from assisted living to the nursing home to hospice all in one building. The staff is very caring. The rooms are well kept and her apartment is very nice. The food is fine and their dining room looks like being in a restaurant. They also have lots of activities. "

"The staff at Trail Creek Place was very knowledgeable. She had additional ideas for me, too. She was very good. It's one level and it's set up in a square. You can just walk around the whole area and it's very easy. You wouldn't get lost walking around the place or moving from place to place. They had exercise equipment, and the barber shop was there. The barber/hairdresser has recently retired, so they were looking for a new one. The garden was very nice. It was inside the square and there's a lot of outdoor seats. You could easily go out onto the patio, and it had tables and chairs set out there, and that's where we were conversing."

"We have visited Silver Birch of Michigan City. It was very clean, there were a lot of activities for the people there, and it seemed like they had a very good meal plan. The rooms are very spacious. We only spoke with one staff member, we didn't interact with very many. They have bingo, they also have a puzzle room, billiards, and they have some ladies there who put together a weekly fun night for the girls."

"I’ve been living in Oak Woods for about a year. It is not far from the drugstore, grocery store, the laundry mat, and the bank. Everybody is very friendly. It’s pretty clean, and we do get really good meals. The staff is quite professional. There are no arguments with the staff, and they help out people when they’re needed. Everybody has been really good. The ones that live next door to me are also satisfied. "

"My dad was in Symphony Chesterton for rehabilitation, and it was very nice. He was in rehab, so his room was just a basic room, nothing fancy, but it was clean and nice. He had heart issues, so they have him walk and do things like that. There were just strengthening therapies. The staff was nice and cooperative. They did try to get him out of there as soon as possible, but I didn't feel he was quite ready to leave. They were good with activities. They had a nice dining room, they had a lot of extra activities for them to do, and they had get-togethers that you could attend if you wanted to."

"We were in the process of taking my mother in Pines Village to have her check out the location, and she backed out. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I thought the rooms are ideal, and it was affordable. Out of all of the three facilities we visited, we thought the Pines Village was the best choice; the residents were friendly and seemed happy. "

"Avalon Springs was very clean and newer. My mom was a patient there for a rehab and had excellent care there. The food looked good. They had different entertainment there that my mom enjoyed and different visiting musicians. They had a place where the girls did nails and a little movie area with popcorn and snacks. "

"Green Oaks of Valparaiso was spotless, and the people there were friendly. I liked the staff I talked to. They were very nice. I talked to a few people, and then we ate there. They gave us lunch, and it was good. Really, really good. So I would rate this community very highly. The staff who gave the tour was really nice and very informative. The rooms are beautiful. There are mostly one-bedroom apartments and studios. They have no two-bedroom. It's a fairly new place. It's only a couple of years old. The facility is really nice."

"I toured Miller's Senior Living Community of Portage and I liked their nursing staff and their food. The staff were very, very knowledgeable of what they were doing. It was really nice. They have a barber and a chef. They have all kinds of stuff. My kids are up there in Portage and it's near hospitals and shopping. The room could have been bigger, though."

"I found the staff at Sterling House (Brookdale Place Portage) to be pleasant, well informed, and courteous. The facility was clean and it smelled good. Carpeting was clean. Their dining room was with white tablecloths. They have a wait staff to bring the meal to you. You select an entrée with a choice of two or three selections. I saw the menu, and it looked well done. They have a fitness room with exercise equipment. They have tours and groups that meet for various levels of ability. "

"I've been living in Hamilton Grove's assisted living for 2 years now. I like the cleanliness and the staff. They also have independent and nursing care. In another part of the community, it has independent living, physical, and occupational therapies. Meals and housekeeping are included here. They also have activities like bingo, trivia, and things like that. There are a variety of activities. Of course, during the pandemic, they had to stop many of them. Now they are starting the activities again. They have church services and counseling if you want it. There is something to do almost every day. They just don't have enough staff and need more."

"We found Miller Beach Terrace through our aunt's medical facility, nearby St. Mary Medical Center. Since our aunt requires regular checkups for her health, we liked that Miller Beach was close enough so that she could keep seeing her regular doctors easily. The facility came highly recommended by a friend of hers at the hospital, as well. We could see why when we visited. The main room was nicely decorated and felt warm and inviting; everyone we saw appeared to be very well taken care of. Our aunt has early Alzheimer's "“ so we were glad that they can accommodate her situation. We were told that as their resident's health changes, they can adapt to most any situation. They have many social activities and make trips to nearby Chicago to go shopping, visit museums, see films, theater and participate in other activities geared toward seniors. The exercise facilities were quite nice, with many options, including yoga and other classes, with some machine work available. The food was really nicely prepared "“ with options and choices for many tastes and dietary concerns. The food we sampled was delicious. The outside areas were well kept and looked peaceful, which is important to our Aunt, since she enjoys reading and writing outdoors when the weather permits. For colder days, there is a well-stocked library and a nearby media center were anyone who wishes may see a film. They also host other events there with visitors from around the community. "

"When I stepped inside Brentwood at Hobart, people came up and talked to me. I thought they were just visiting other people, but they were actually residents of the place and they were super friendly. The staff was very patient and very informative. The lady listened to a lot of my interest for my brother and she wasn't rushing me or anything. I liked the facility a lot. It's more like a fancy hotel than the other ones. The first room she showed me, somebody had just moved out of it, so they had to do painting and other stuff. I'm sure it would look just great afterward. The other one she showed me was on the second or third floor and it was roomier with a good layout. It was more like a one-bedroom apartment, even though it didn't have that wall. It was L-shaped."
