My aunt lives currently at Miller Beach and she really likes it. We have had meals with her in the dining room and the food is very tasty. The staff is super friendly and really seem to care about their residents. While there they were having a luau and the owner was manning the grill. They had large pretzels with cheese, cotton candy and even a balloon artist. The best part was the petting zoo.

I am heartbroken because my dad died, we believe, as a result of negligence by the Miller Beach staff. Before coming to Miller Beach, my dad had colon cancer and was taking 3 medicines to assist with his bowel movements. While at Miller Beach, he was never given those medicines. After 6 months at Miller Beach, he started complaining of stomach pain. Finally three days later, they took him to the hospital. He needed emergency surgery to remove part of his colon because of blockage. Ten days later he needed a pace maker installed, three days later a feeding tube and then died the next morning. We believe that his death was caused by the negligence of the Miller Beach staff. We believe had he been taking his medicines, none of these problems would have occurred. A list of his medicines was recorded on papers dad kept in the drawer in his room. Why didn't the staff have a copy of his meds? I would not recommend putting my loved ones in Miller Beach.
Disgusted!

This is a horrible place! They put my 87y/o grandfather on respidone for no reason. But that explains why everyone seemed so dazed! Everyone was probably on it! They gave him no meds for his bowels, and every elderly person should be on something. We had bought him several changes of clothes that always were in the laundry when we came to visit. His clothes were filthy every time we went to visit. He smelled of urine so bad because no one was changing his clothes or his depends! I am sure he was embarrassed because he was always a very clean man. Don't send your loved one here unless you are trying to kill them! He died from a bowel blockage, he had complained three days of abdominal pain before they sent him to the ER!

We found Miller Beach Terrace through our aunt's medical facility, nearby St. Mary Medical Center. Since our aunt requires regular checkups for her health, we liked that Miller Beach was close enough so that she could keep seeing her regular doctors easily. The facility came highly recommended by a friend of hers at the hospital, as well. We could see why when we visited. The main room was nicely decorated and felt warm and inviting; everyone we saw appeared to be very well taken care of. Our aunt has early Alzheimer's "“ so we were glad that they can accommodate her situation. We were told that as their resident's health changes, they can adapt to most any situation. They have many social activities and make trips to nearby Chicago to go shopping, visit museums, see films, theater and participate in other activities geared toward seniors. The exercise facilities were quite nice, with many options, including yoga and other classes, with some machine work available. The food was really nicely prepared "“ with options and choices for many tastes and dietary concerns. The food we sampled was delicious. The outside areas were well kept and looked peaceful, which is important to our Aunt, since she enjoys reading and writing outdoors when the weather permits. For colder days, there is a well-stocked library and a nearby media center were anyone who wishes may see a film. They also host other events there with visitors from around the community.
