My mom will be paying half of the price of what she’s paying now. They take Medicaid, too. Jessica was the one who toured us around and she was awesome. They have a lot of activities like outings and happy hour once a week where they have food and drinks if they want. Then they go to a lot of different places such as museums and shopping. They also bingo, cards, and puzzles together. It just seemed the right fit.

The place that I liked was Woodside Senior Living that’s out on Rockside Road. I liked the apartment set up and it would have been big enough for my dad. It was really clean and it smelled good. Usually, when people get elderly, it starts to stink and smell like urine and stuff like that. There were no smells like that at all when I walked through there. The staff was nice, and I feel like my dad would have a good time living there. He could make friends of his age.
I went to see their assisted living. Igor, the executive director, answered any questions I had and showed me a couple of different apartments. He showed me how people who are living there kind of keep their doors open sometimes. I asked if it was okay if I looked in and he said that was fine so I went to see how the lady there had her place set up. They had a stove and refrigerator in the kitchen.
I was also able to see a completely empty place. They’re renovating right now and I was able to see that. He showed me the different sitting areas that they have, the game room, and stuff like that. He answered all the questions that I had and he’s very, very nice. He told me to feel free to give him a call for any more questions that I have and he will be more than willing to help me. Going and looking at it, that’s somewhere that I would want to put my father.
I liked that when you walk down the halls, especially with it being an assisted living community, each person has their own little apartment. It’s like when you’re on a normal street and you’re giving someone directions, you tell them street names like "turn left here, turn right there". This place has hallway names. Each one of the halls has its own, I guess you call it a street name. If someone was to come and visit, you could tell them, come down to this hall and make a right on this hall, whatever the name of the hallway was, basically like giving them directions but just inside the facility. I thought that was interesting because it would be easier to be able to tell somebody how to get to their apartment once they come in.

My mother has been there for five years, starting on the independent side and then moving to the assisted side two years ago. They offer a wide range of services to accommodate her as she needs more help. The apartments aren’t huge, but they’re well-appointed and comfortable, and the food is very good. My mom isn’t a real "joiner" but there are tons of activities and events planned every week, and they do a great job at the holidays, Mother’s Day, etc. My mother has been very happy at IV and I would definitely recommend it!

Terribly upset at recent activities here at Cardinal. Typically as humans, we like to give others the benefit of the doubt, but when it comes to carrying for others, it can be hard to do. My biggest issues would be the floor staff, in particular the aides. Finding out that my loved ones have been buying gifts for the aides children, and they accept them is absolutely unacceptable!! This is misappropriation!!!! One of the aides here at Cardinal have a young daughter in which I’ve seen and overheard her talking about the residents buying gifts for her daughter, and she accepts them. I have made a complaint to state in this regard, but wanted others to be aware that this goes on here at Cardinal.

Light of Hearts Villa is an assisted living facility that goes above and beyond what a family expects. Rooms are spacious even the efficiency suites. All have private bathrooms and kitchenettes. But none of that is important if the staff is not caring, professional and knowledgeable. Each resident is treated as an individual with his/her own likes and dislikes. Each is provided with the care needed and yet challenged to keep as much independence as they can. Staff is amazing and happy!!! Residents choose to actively engage or not in the activities provided but staff doesn’t often let anyone just sit around doing nothing! Because the building was former high school there are large open spaces available for gathering of residents that many other facilities don’t have. I would strongly encourage you to visit Light of Hearts Villa BEFORE a crisis hits in your family. It is always best to be prepared with a loving community in the background offering support!

My mother is in Kentridge Senior Living. We’ve had some bad experiences and we’re not real happy with the care sometimes, the caregivers, and the way they operate. They have a four-page menu, but they have the same items at lunch as they do for dinner for their main entrees. They serve very spicy food to older individuals. I know there are problems nationwide with that, but this has been ongoing. They’re supposed to do her laundry once a week, but they weren’t doing it once a week. We had to get after them about cleaning. There’s just a lot of little different things that I’m not happy with. You have some good staff and you have some bad. They need more food variety. When Mom first went in, they had a bigger variety. They used to offer burgers and chicken sandwiches and stuff every day, now they don’t. There’s no variety. Sometimes you ask for something and you get something entirely different. The facility looks nice and welcoming. They have bingo and singing. They have a beauty salon and a library because I have seen them bring books out in the foyer and switch them out. By the time Mom came in, they were on lockdown. We really didn’t get to see much of the facility, and they’re on lockdown again.

Protocols and lockdowns were instituted by the state of ohio and the facility adhered to these measures and they were very difficult for residents, families and staff but thank g-d we are almost past this chapter and moving back to a more open facility.
Management, chaplains, staff, front-desk help have been great to work with during these abnormal and difficult times.
I encourage you to visit and see how an integrated facility (doctors, PA’s and nurses to not only administer meds but to check on your loved one has been a blessing for us.
