Independent Living Communities in Hudson, OH

"My mother will be in independent living at Cardinal Retirement Village, but she will be getting some assisted living services. Due to COVID restrictions, we're on a waiting list for probably a month or two. They have the dining room tables far apart, and the living room areas set up where they removed some couches, so it looked very far apart. They're not using their dining room right now, but they're hoping to get back to that. They want Mom to stay in her own little apartment for a two-week quarantine, then she can walk the hallways, but not have visitors. Everything looked neat and clean, but the COVID thing is kind of offputting. They have a long waiting list for studios, so we're going with a one-bedroom. The staff was very nice. They weren't doing so much. They just restarted bingo, but they have everybody sitting far apart wearing masks. They used to have music groups coming in all the time. They have a place that always has cereal, donuts, bagels, and muffins that you can serve yourself, and milk or juice, but they're not doing any of that with COVID. Everything is closed now. They have a beauty parlor or barber shop, a little library, a large screen TV and chairs that they can arrange to show a movie, and they have a popcorn machine. If all these things were operational, it would be very nice. The staff was very personable and very helpful. The hallways looked dated and carpeted. It looked like hotel hallways, but the unit we saw was very nice and painted and had new appliances. The dining area looked brand new, looked remodeled, and was very lovely. They need to update the hallways. They have a room with a piano in it, couches and easy chairs, like a little living room setup, so people can come and visit. You could bring your extended family if it wasn't for all these restrictions. They have an outdoor area where they have tables, chairs and umbrellas. Every apartment has its own little screened-in porch."

"The staff was very helpful, very caring, and willing to accommodate people at Summit Point. The rooms were very nice, and the food was great. I think they had enough activities for people to get involved in. It was really nice and had three levels of care. "

"Danbury Cuyahoga Falls is very homey. The people are very nice, very attentive, and loving. It's everything I would want. They all work hard. They're all pleasant. The meals are OK; there could be some improvement, but that goes with any place. They keep after the place as best as they can considering the number of people that are in and out of here daily. There are many activities and you just pick out what you want to do and do it. They have people that are there to guide you and help you along in whatever you choose. I wish the price was a little lower. Otherwise, I'm staying here. I have no plans of moving out. I'm satisfied."

"Our visit at Danbury Woods in Cuyahoga Falls was very good. They had a good social thing, a very good food program, and nice rooms. It was a much smaller facility, so there wasn't a lot of extra room for activities. The person who assisted perspective customers was exceptionally well-informed. We were favorably impressed with the facility and the few people we did speak with."

"Independence Village is newer, and the rooms are bigger, but it's very expensive. It was way too much money. The staff member was nice, described a little bit what was going own, but I didn't see a facility for rehab. The room was basically a studio layout with one bed, a walk-in closet, and shower."

"Danbury Tallmadge was very nice. The staff was very friendly. The room was exceptional there. It was a large room for memory care. It had several windows. My mom has been in a wheelchair for several years, but she doesn't use the wheels with her arms, she moves with her feet, so she is not the best at navigating. And the room that the staff showed me had a large right angle as you went in, and I just didn't think my mom could maneuver well there. It was also the most costly of all six that I looked at. However, the staff members were very friendly. It was very nice. It's a newer building."

A Home environment for seniors who need some assistance with daily living but don't want to live in a large Nursing Home. "I went to Vitalia Senior Residences of Solon. I talked with one of the admissions people, but they were way out of our price range. The staff members were very friendly from the tours that I took. I didn't get to see them interact with anybody. I went there because they had sent out mailings and I got a mailing in my home. One of their staff members put on a presentation about downsizing. I was kind of interested in that and that's why I went in the first place. I just saw the rooms from the doorway, but I didn't see a lot. However, the staff member who gave me the tour was very knowledgeable, very informative, and very kind. There was an exercise room, too."

"A girlfriend and I went to Brookdale Montrose, and they gave us a tour. We had lunch. It's a beautiful place. When we had lunch, we got to sit at a table with other people who lived there, and we got to know them a little bit. The staff who accommodated us was very nice and very informative. My girlfriend and I both had questions, and they took the time to answer them. It was a very good visit. Several areas were very big, very spacious, and had comfortable seating. It was very homelike, so it was very nice. They have a menu. They have daily specials, and a section where you can order off the menu whatever you would like. It was very nice and very well-prepared. The food was nice and hot, so it was very good."

"I paid a visit at Solon Pointe at Emerald Ridge and I learned they accepted Medicaid. Everything was very nice, from the staff to the rooms. The staff was helpful and accommodating. "

"The experience at Copley Place is outstanding. I can't wait to move in. They have a workout room and bingo. The staff is the best. They offer three meals."

"I have found the support and services at Storypoint to be excellent. Although they have struggled with staff due to the pandemic as well as post pandemic, my husband was taken care of with great care and thought. The staff there are absolutely wonderful. My husband was able to engage in one of his favorite activities which is playing cards. It started out at once or twice a week and expanded to six times weekly. It improved his attitude and mental health to be involved with residence who had the same interests. His room was very very large and even though he struggled with his electric wheelchair, the staff was patient and supportive."

"I did a tour of the Hamlet at Chagrin Falls. It was very clean and very well kept up. It's geared more towards independent seniors. You have assistance available for those who need a little bit more assistance in their daily lives. They have an awful lot of activities, and they have therapy that can be scheduled. They have a dining hall available, and they have a lot of road trips. They have regular trips to shopping, drugstores, and dinners out. They have a library, and they have a salon. They lock in the price that they enter into and that will be their rent for the duration of their stay."

"We toured the independent living part of Rose Senior Living - Beachwood. It was nice, the people appeared to be nice, it was very clean, and the location was perfect. They have a salon and they have swimming. You can get meals too, so it is a home away from home. There's no reason that you have to leave. The person who gave us the tour was very patient and very informative. The dining area was very clean, elegant, spacious, and well-lit. They do laundry and they have a section that accepts pets. They also have a gym."
