Independent Living Communities in Lincolnwood, IL

"In general, I think that this is a beautiful facility, obviously upscale, but in extremely good taste. There is a library and a little shopping area with candy and jewelry. There is a very nice dining area. The lobby is spacious and comfortable. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The one draw back is the parking in the back of the building, which is often full and it is hard to find parking on the street. This is definately an urban setting. Many of the patients are Holocaust survivors. The staff are very helpful and will work with the patient and the family if there are financial or other problems. The facility offers an array of activities -- opera programs, ice cream socials, current events, etc. The facility also provides religious programming and services for the mainly Jewish population. There are individual apartments where residents can live in an independent living situation. There is also continued care and nursing home facility on other floors. On the top floor is a lovely activity room with glass windows. Sometimes there is a pianist who plays music. Patients can go up and get an icecream cone or can go out on the roof patio when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend this facility. The patients that I talked to seemed happy because there are many activities that are offered. "

"My in-laws stayed at Belmont Village. Some of the help wasn't quite as good as where my mom's now. However, the grounds were very nice, and everything was well kept. It worked out very well and it was better than most places we looked over. It was pretty quiet in its own respect. It was right on a major road, and it's not really walking distance to anything. They had quite a few activities. Unfortunately, my in-laws were sticklers and didn't participate. "

"Vi At the Glen is a very nice place, and they have a gazeebo. The staff was very friendly. Some residents talked to me, and they said that I would love being in there. One woman took me to play bridge. They made you feel part of the group. "

"I toured Legacy Crossings. The people were fine. They couldn't be nicer, friendlier, informative, and had answers to any question. The space itself is good. I love that they have a little kitchenette. And I think it's going to work just fine. There's a pool and a gym. They're putting together an arts and crafts room. So, I think it's very, very good. I love the location. I like the building, and the security is very good. Everything's great so far."

"The Hallmark was very nice. It is near the lake with a gorgeous views and the food is edible. They were mid-cost. They wouldn't charge you your whole saving. But like any other place, they were understaffed, but of course that's not something they would admit that to a client. But I would recommend them to others. "

"My tour at Belmont Village Lincoln Park went well. It looked like a well-organized facility. The rooms were a bit on the small side, but other than that, it seemed like a very nice place. The only thing was the price was very expensive. The staff seemed very good."

"I liked it very much. The person who showed me around was very thorough. It met all of what my mother-in-law would need. They seemed flexible as far as what she would need. It just seemed like a really good facility. They don't have memory care. They just have the assisted living portion and independent living. If their residents get to the point of where they're near end-of-life, they bring in hospice. They don't have to transfer out. The train stops right in front. They have shuttles that go to various community activities or events like plays, shopping trips, and church services, and they have in-house activities. The day I was there, they were having an Easter event. They have pet visits and some residents have small dogs. They have a salon and they have people that play card games. There's an art studio and outdoor gardening in the summertime."

"I'm in Inspirations of Northbrook. I like them. It felt very welcoming when I walked through the door, which I didn't feel in any of the others, and so I decided to move here. The others felt cold and institutional. When I went here, I immediately felt warmth, and I felt this was the place, even before I saw the apartment. I took a studio because the one- and two-bedrooms are really expensive. The studio is expensive as it is. The people are very kind. They will put things together for me. They hang things on the wall. The maintenance people are very good. They're always right there, pleasant and wanting to help you. I was independent, but right now, after breaking my ankle, I'm assisted. I am on an assisted living floor. I'm going to have to have help for a while, but I can wheel myself down to the dining room if I want, or I can have my meals delivered to my room. The food isn't great, but it's not bad. The servers are very nice. We have a wine night every Wednesday. They're warm and caring. Everybody there has a smile on their face. "What else can we do for you? What else do you need?" That's everything when you're not living at home. There are a lot of activities. The schedule changes every week in terms of what activities you have. They have a movie night, get-togethers, outings, and they'll go to the grocery store. They've gone up to Lake Geneva. They plan for certain restaurants that a big party of wheelchairs and walkers will come in. They've gone to Yen Yen for Chinese, which I really like. You sign up for those events, and then the van takes you, picks you up, and takes you back. Because I'm on the assisted living floor, it doesn't have a regular oven. There are no burners. I bought a Black & Decker baker broiler, and it works for me. The kitchen has enough cabinets. I don't have a regular-size refrigerator, but other studios do. This one just happened to have a small refrigerator, like you would find in a motor home. It's fine because I don't have that much. They provide everything in terms of food. I do not go down for breakfast. I rarely go down to lunch. I go down for dinner. They have a very nice Sunday brunch. They have Shabbat services every Friday afternoon for those who are Jewish. They have other services, so they're pretty nice in what they offer. There's also an alternate menu, so you don't have to eat what they're going to give you. You can order something else if you want. It works really well. The residents here are all very nice. Everybody I've said hi to always says hi back. "How are you?" They always respond. There's a woman here who is a pianist in a wheelchair, and I will always go up to her and give her a kiss because she's a wonderful woman, and she loves my red hair. Most of the people here are really warm and very nice. We talk to each other. My dinner companions are very nice. I've nothing really bad to say about them. They have a physical therapy department. They have an actual registered licensed physical therapist there. They have standing bikes on the first floor. They have everything. The grounds are really nice. The van will take you grocery shopping if you want. They take you to your medical appointments. They take you to the hospital. They take you wherever you want to go medically. I don't really participate in the activities, but they have a men's night. They have activities, outings, and movie nights. I think they're more on the expensive side, but you're also paying for meals. I signed up for two a day, but you can have one a day. Their desserts are fabulous and ice cream is absolutely wonderful. Their pastries are really good. Based on the quality, the services, the size of the apartment, the one- and two-bedrooms are really large, and they're pet friendly, I think for the value, it's really nice."

"We feel so lucky to have my parents at the Clare. The Clare is a supportive and caring community. The staff feels like family for my parents and my kids when we come and visit them. My parents enjoy the engaging activities the Clare schedules daily. The food is excellent!"

"My mother is at American House Oak Park. I like the facility. It's newer and has pretty state of the art amenities. It's got a beautiful city vibe. The staff is friendly and attentive. They're there 24/7. There's a registered nurse on staff, so it's not just CNAs. The community is exceptionally clean and inviting. It's very modern. It really looks like a very high-scale hotel. In fact, the seventh floor has a view of downtown with an outdoor patio. It is like high-rise living. So, if you are coming from a home or a suburb, it's a different vibe for you. It has seven floors. It's jarring if you're not used to it, but it's beautiful for sure. We did a family event on Wednesday and people came in with their families and had a taste of food from around the world. Then the band came in and played. It was lovely. There was an introductory offer to get in, and the rate we're in now is amazing. Once the introductory rate goes up, it will go up and be more in line with how much you would pay to be in this type of facility. It really is beautiful and lovely and all the things. They had sitting pods and people were there with their families. You really feel like you're on vacation."

"I have been living at Bridgeway of Bensenville since 2020. I'm in independent, although there are some assisted living people in here, too. The staff is pleasant. One of the big things was the price. My aunt who is living at the other place in a one-bedroom, one-bath is paying almost double of what I am paying for a two- bedroom, two-bath at this place. They're all friendly. The person at the reception desk who was here for the longest time just retired, but there's another woman that's there now for the last few months, and she's very, very pleasant, too. The nurse is very helpful with all the COVID stuff. We've been doing testing quite regularly, and so far, so good for me. I get breakfast and dinner, but the assisted living people get three meals a day. The food is pretty good. There are days when I'm not crazy about it, but generally we have several choices for appetizers. There's usually a soup, a fruit cup, cottage cheese, and salad and you can choose two from there. There are usually two choices for entrees and then a dessert. If you don't like the dessert, they usually have ice cream. It's pretty balanced. The facility is quite good. There is the option of the garage, which I take in the winter, but to save a little bit of money, I park outside, like now. That's $65 a month. The rent includes utilities, so I really don't pay for anything except my TV. They have a lot of activities throughout the month. For instance, on Friday, we're going to celebrate the birthdays for this month and it's going to be a luau. They are even bringing in Hawaiian dancers. There are a few things that need to be done. Like everybody else, they're short of staff sometimes. There are a few maintenance things that they could improve on, like window washing, especially on the outside. They have been improving on washing in the hallways and stuff, but there are a few miscellaneous issues that need to be taken care of. I'm actually on the resident council and we have a monthly meeting and we bring up different things to management and tell them what we would like them to do and we get some results. This was the best value for what you get. Some of the apartments had washers and dryers, but I'm right around the corner from our laundry room for this area. There are two laundry rooms each floor, and they have two washers and two dryers in them."

"My father has been either in hospitals or in medical rehabilitation facilities for over the last 5 months. His health rapidly deteriorated and it is going to take months to get him completely better, if that is even possible. He is unable to return to living completely unassisted, and I am his only child, so it is my responsibility to find a place that will both offer aid and a good quality of life. I have toured Concord Place twice and have been VERY impressed with everything I have seen and experienced. My father and I have decided this is where he will go to stay. It is close to my home, so I can visit often with my kids, and will be only minutes away if any emergency arises. The facility he is in right now has, over the course of the last month, given me 6 different planned discharge dates for him. As of 2 days ago, his planned discharge was June 19th. I called CP and told them to plan on that day to have his apartment ready. It was getting new paint and new carpeting, and it would give me a couple of weeks to get his bed and furnishings moved in. Yesterday, the current facility said they needed to switch his discharge to the 13th due to insurance issues. An hour later, it was moved to the 8th, and then at 5pm last night, I was informed they were going to be releasing him on the 31st, which is TOMORROW. Concord Place, and specifically Kelly and Tony, have bent over backward to assist my father and I with this INCREDIBLY frustrating development, and they have told me they will make sure his room is ready tomorrow, complete with temporary furnishings until I can move his in next week. I cannot say enough good things about these people and this place, and I will be recommending it to everyone I know who has similar circumstances to my father. Concord Place is AWESOME, and I cannot thank you enough. PS. I will also come back in a few months and re-review after he has moved in and experienced some of the many activities offered. "

"My aunt has been in Cantata Adult Life Services for a year now. She's getting very good care, and we're very happy with the staff. They've been very good to her, and it's been a good experience for her so far. The appearance is great. It's always very clean. If the light bulb burns out, they fix it right away. They've been very good about its upkeep. The people are always very nice, and she likes it there. The only complaint in the last six months was they ran out of bacon one day. They've got a doctor there, and they're very good about answering my questions. I would recommend it to anyone."
