"My wife transitioned to Emerald Place in November 2019, after almost five years of home care for her Alzheimer’s Disease. That gave me a few months to become familiar with all aspects of life at Emerald Place prior to the pandemic visiting practices that began in March 2020. My selection of Emerald Place was based on feedback from a family member who visited several memory care communities and my own visit to Emerald Place. From the moment I started my tour, I knew that I had found an outstanding home for my wife – up-to-date, state-of-the art facilities with a staff that is proficient, caring and enthusiastic about working with the residents. Day- in and day-out, the upbeat disposition of the staff is felt by the residents who show their happiness. Emerald Place may be likened to a cruise ship – dining areas at the “stern” and activity areas at the “bow,” so residents are on the move many times each day as they transition between the areas, plus there is a lovely protected courtyard area and porches to enjoy during warmer weather. Just like a cruise ship, entertainment is offered on a regular basis along with bingo, flower arranging, exercise classes, religious services and more. The monthly activity calendar shows that every day is carefully planned for maximum resident enjoyment. Special events in 2020 include an appearance by the Jesse White Tumblers, Sheila Tulley Irish Dancers, Big Band Night, Hawaiian Luau, Cinco de Mayo, Elvis Presley and more. The rooms are spacious, bright, cheerful, well ventilated and each has excellent views of the surrounding neighborhood. No one looks out at a nearby wall. Meals are served in a formal dining room with a broad range of food to satisfy all tastes. A valuable, distinguishing feature of Emerald Place is the broad range of in-house services, a huge benefit for residents who may be challenged dealing with travel to off-site appointments. The upscale, full-service Kosoff salon takes care of all grooming needs. Physical and occupational therapists are equipped for onsite services. Remarkably, a dentist visits Emerald Place for a full range of dental services. A podiatrist visits regularly. Most importantly, in-house primary care is provided by a medical group that include physician assistants who see residents on a weekly basis. That enables them to be proactive to adjust medications promptly and address other emerging needs. The management team at Emerald Place is a high-energy, efficient group that is well liked by the staff and residents. They set a positive, pervasive tone that keeps spirits high, a critical element as everyone manages all aspects of life during the pandemic. Their professionalism shines as they proficiently manage pandemic challenges. Management meets with family members on a regular basis, plus there is a family support group and a book club, all elements that create a strong family feeling at Emerald Place – we’re all in this together! "The nursing Home is great because it was so nice their and the nurses were so kind to you. At the nursing home they're were several enjoyable activities and entertainment that I loved! I had great time at the spas and the excellent sauna during the winter. I would tell anyone over the age of sixty to come here now. It was one of the greatest place I have ever been to. The beds were the best they were as fluffy as a sheep! I thought they were sheep. At Norwood Crossing I was treated extremely kind. Me and my buddies went there played checkers and relaxed for 2 years. The food was yummy and I loved the broth they served. The soup was also extravagant! My favorite meal of all was the milky mashed potatoes with this amazing gravy. The food was amazing I tell you. My daughter can't even cook as good as them. Now that's saying something because I used to think my daughter was a great cook. another decent thing is that they let relatives to stay for a long time and even lets them stay for the night. Overall I had an amazing 2 years at Norwood Crossing and would recommend it to many people. "

"I'm moving into Amazing Grace Senior Living. I like it. It's close to home. I'm giving it a 5 because of the care they show there. It's new. The people are happy, too. The staff member who assisted me was Susan, and she was good. I tried their food, and it was good. I was hungry, and I missed lunch, so they gave me a sandwich. It was a tasty sandwich, better than anything I got at the other place. The rooms were adequate. At the other place, you get a two-room suite, but at Amazing Grace, it is a fairly small room, but it has a private bath and a nice window."

"I went to St. Joseph Village of Chicago. The staff was very good. The only drawback of that facility is that they don't have long-term memory care. It's only short-term for memory care. From there, they send them to other facilities, so I wasn't too happy about that. That didn't fit my needs. The good thing is that if you need to stay there for a week or so or just for a short-term visit, it'll work out for you, but long-term-wise, it's not what I needed. They have a rehab center and a nice chapel. The facility itself was very clean. To get in, it's pretty secure. They have to buzz you in. It was a nice facility, and the staff was friendly."

"The Sheridan at Park Ridge was wonderful. The facility was very clean and very nice. Our favorite thing was that the garden was right off the memory care. The rooms were very nice. They were not huge, but perfect for what my mother-in-law needed. Their dining area was very clean and very nice. The staff was wonderful, accommodating, and answered all my questions. We met some of the people that run the activities. They do bingo, art, and singing. You are also included in the regular assisted living when they have different performers. They have little outings on their bus. They have a big TV and sitting area."

"Sunrise of Park Ridge was clean. It was a little bit older, like the carpeting needs to be replaced kind of thing, but the staff was wonderful. The rooms were nice and the pricing was reasonable. The staff during the tour was very knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. I looked out the window and saw the outdoor areas. It was pouring down rain, so we didn't go outside. I saw almost all the common areas, the therapy room, the dining room, and the little bistro where they have different snacks. I saw two of the rooms, a studio, and a one-bedroom."

"Sunrise of Lincoln Park's floor was decorated and had enough room to accommodate the residents. My mom has only been there for two weeks. They had Girl Scouts come in, karaoke, people visit to sing for them, and movies. The people are very nice, seem knowledgeable, and have been there for a number of years. The food is pretty good."

"Belmont Village Lincoln Park was very nice. It's very new and also expensive. It's like a high-end luxury hotel. It's very clean and very well appointed. They have almost like a gourmet restaurant there. So, it's high-end restaurant food. The tour person was very, very knowledgeable and asked a lot of good questions about what I was looking for. They had a professional gym/yoga room, a library, an in-house hair salon, and a sports bar. It felt like an upscale Chicago apartment complex. They had everything."

"Arden Courts of Northbrook was a really excellent place for Alzheimer's patients. The rooms were small but nice and clean. The staff that I met seemed very professional and very caring. They had sing-alongs. There were small dining areas in four different wings, so that the patients don't have to go far to eat. The staff know the patients and the patients know the staff. They're comfortable because they know where they are and what they're supposed to be doing, which is important for Alzheimer's patients. "

"I visited The Clare recently. I have a sister living there and I was there after chemotherapy bouts in both skilled nursing and assisted living. We now have an independent living unit there. It is quite different from what you have down here. It is a vertical high-rise apartment in downtown Chicago, so it is quite different. The food is very good. The staff is equally good. They have movies, and they will take you to local events like opera, theatre, and the symphony. You can go out the door and access five or six good restaurants. It is something you can't do down here. The food in the assisted living is not their best food, but in independent living it is much better."

"Even though American House Oak Park is fairly expensive, it's really a good value for the money. It is beautiful, partly because it's new and it's very well thought out. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. We met five or six staff members, and they were all very pleasant and very professional. They did not offer us food, but they had coffee and nice cold water for us. It's also very clean."

"It was very open and very clean. They had a nice patio out back. It seemed like they had pretty good activities. They had a fireplace. They had a little bar where they have a happy hour. It's a pretty new facility, so it's clean. Their costs were a little expensive. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to know a lot about the elderly care facilities. The facility looked pretty good."
