I have chosen Sunrise of Highland Park. They have two-room suites. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom with an adjoining small common area. It's an attractive facility. They have very helpful staff. It's a suburban environment.

My tour of Sunrise of Highland Park was fine, but I don't think it would be a fit for my sister. I think she needs a little more care than they're able to provide. I like their activities and the engagement of the help with the people the most. But I think the amount of people to patients wouldn't be sufficient for what my sister's needs are. The building is extremely nice and clean. It's designed well for the patients. When I stepped in, it felt friendly and newer looking. The sizes of the rooms are adequate.

I'm currently living in Sunrise of Highland Park. It's well run. It's got 24-hour nursing, combined with or not a resident's choice of medication management. They have different levels of care. There are a few people here all the time who could respond to emergencies. There's no one at the front desk 24 hours at Sunrise. If you call the main number, like I did once, I was trying to get back here and get in the building after a hospital trip. No one answered the phone. It transfers to their nursing station. If somebody picks it up and can help you, that's good. They come and clean the room once a week. They change the bed sheets and the towels. They will also do laundry, although I have a caregiver who helps me out with a lot of things. If you need to call maintenance because something is broken and there's a need for cleaning, they'll come and do it. The food is pretty repetitive.

I went to see Sunrise of Highland Park. What I liked about it was that all the elderly people have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between meals, you can go to the bistro corner. You can have freshly baked muffins and cookies. They always have fresh fruit out, too. I think it's important to be able to have that option, so I really liked that. I think that was cool. Many of the staff have been working there 17 years and up, which means that they're happy with their job. They don't have a turnover, which is very important. I liked how it was a small community, so pretty much everybody knows and is willing to help each other. They're also a dog-friendly community. Usually when you say dog friendly, it means that the elderly people or their families can bring in pets; however, they have it where the staff can also bring their dog every day. It's bizarre, but it's pretty cool. Like a nurse had this dog roaming around, and it was a friendly dog. It's no big deal. If you're a dog person and/or a dog lover, I think it would be a great facility for someone to feel welcome going there. They showed me a model studio room. It was beautiful, but very small. My friend's mother is already in a 1-bedroom, so it's kind of overwhelming to start looking at studios. If it was a 1-bedroom, and we were like, 'OK, we're starting at $4000.' When it's a studio, it's depressing. I really like that it's a smaller community, but I'm not sure that would be a good place for my friend's mom because she has often expressed her opinions, and she can be kind of loud. Overall, I thought they were very nice and clean. I told the lady that she liked eating muffins, and they had homemade double chocolate chip muffins that they made for me before I left, and I thought that was really sweet of them. Overall, it was a very nice visit. I was there for 2 hours, but their parking could be tough. I went on a cold day. The staff had to come outside to show me where I could park because there were signs like, 'Park, Don't Park, Park.' It was inconvenient. I really like the cleanliness and the friendliness of the place. I would say that it was not very updated. It was not as upscale as I assumed it would be. It wasn't as new, and there were scratches on the elevators. It looked clean, but it was older.

I visited Sunrise of Highland Park, and it was a very beautiful facility. They couldn't accept my sister because she requires a two person assist. I thought that it was a beautifully equipped facility with very pleasant surroundings, very pleasant staff, and ideally located. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. My sister wasn't accepted as assisted living. They weren't going to go much further with me, and I didn't expect them to. They showed me the entire facility. They showed me the rooms and how they were decorated. It was very nicely done. I don't recall them discussing any of the personal amenities, but they have activities and transportation. The staff were very nice and friendly, and the building is very nicely kept.

I moved into Sunrise of Highland Park. It's excellent. When I first started looking, I started talking to the sales and marketing person here, Kathy, I fell in love with her, I fell in love with the place, she was good to me, and she helped me all the way. She's awesome, and she just helped me with everything. The staff is excellent, very attentive, my room is small, it's a studio, it's the smallest one in the building, and it's the only one they had when I wanted to move here. But I've got plenty of room. It's very homey and cozy, and has a very big window. We have to eat in our rooms, the food comes in styrofoam containers, but I've been here a month, and I've never had the same thing twice; the food is excellent. Right now, we're getting ready to have a casino party, and they have exercise every day, and movie nights, and all of these activities are within the social distancing, we all are masked, we're all six feet apart, but they provide a lot of activities.

I had a great experience when I took a tour of Sunrise of Highland Park. The staff was great and I didn't have any complaints. The rooms looked like hotel rooms, and the dining area was like a restaurant. The facility was a bit smaller, so you'd have to consider if you want lots of potential friends with your loved one, but it was more intimate.

I visited Sunrise of Highland Park. They had a lot of activities for family who came in and out all day long. They could have meals with them. They could go for walks. It was close to places downtown. They showed me the library. They had an activities board. They served two or three meals a day, and they had like a bistro bar where you could get something like in between snacks. The staff was very informative. They showed us around. They had a tour guide, and I met the manager of the facility. I had a good idea of the offerings that they had. There were many doctor's offices that were very close. It was very convenient for us and a lot of residents there had families that were living close. That's very good for the community itself.

Sunrise of Highland Park was nice. They did not have many independent living rooms; it was mostly assisted living. The staff was OK. He gave me some information, but I felt like he could have showed me more. He just told me what I needed to know. The dining area was OK. Some of the people, even when it’s not meal time, were sitting there and talking. It was just a regular dining room, nothing too special. I wasn’t happy with the rooms because they seemed small and closed off. Also, there was not much to the kitchen area.

Sunrise Highland Park was very nice. The staff is very attentive. The place is well kept and pretty accessible. They have group activities and physical games. They would have some speakers come in and some art activities as well.

Sunrise of Highland Park is a very small facility. I was not impressed with them. The rooms seemed small. Even the general area, where the dining room and so on was, was very small. I wasn't very excited about this facility. Other facilities have enough room so they can have all kinds of activities and so on, but this one is very small. So it just looked to me like they didn't have much going on other than a place to live.

Sunrise of Highland Park is a facility mainly for assisted living and Alzheimer's. The place is very nice and clean. We had a meal there and it was good. I did saw that the residents were in wheelchairs and observed that it's a little sicker community.

My mom was happier when she was at Sunrise of Highland Park. She was always smiling. She was doing something rather than sitting around. They loved telling a story. She would go out for lunch. She would go on shopping. She was not miserable. I loved the facility but it's expensive.

Sunrise is a corporate chain with some, but not too much, variability in their different locations. All Sunrise facilities are pretty nice, and this is one of the nicer Sunrise locations when comparing them as a group. It is a multi-storied building set adjacent to a safe residential area of Highland Park that is only about a block from the business district. This means a short walk provides access to all sorts of shops and some restaurants. There is limited outdoor space due to the high-density location. There are benches for relaxing in front of the building. There is also underground private parking for visitors, which offers convenience. The interior is very tastefully decorated and provides an upscale, home-like feel. There are numerous common areas on the main level and also on each floor that provide comfortable and spaciouss areas for visitors and for residents to relax. The apartments are available in different configurations to meet different needs; all have nice large windows and many have pleasant views. Cost is variable based on size of apartment. Care is taken so that the interior of the apartments is maintained to Sunrise standards which means no broken fixtures or things that do not work properly. The food is tastefully prepared and nicely presented; overall above average in tastiness and variety. Staff is professional, kind and courteous and of adequate number to meet resident needs.

Several of my friends have parents there, and all have had good experiences. Caring staff, good location and a brand new facility.
