"I toured. I thought the place was very nice. If my mom were going to go into assisted living, it'd be a perfect place for her. Denise answered every question I had for her. She showed me every room. There was one type of room she couldn't show me because people were living there. She showed me empty rooms, and I said, "Well, this is beautiful, very clean, and very well lit." She was fantastic."

"The tour at Jennings Terrace was good. I looked at their prices for a private room and a private bath. The staff members were good. They do your laundry and clean your room. They serve three meals a day. They had a little store and a barbershop."

"Our mother has been an assisted living resident of StoryPoint Naperville (“SP”) for almost 4 years. Our family has been very happy as well as our mother with SP. All the staff and the management of SP are great. SP’s caregivers and nursing staff are “top-notched”. They are very compassionate and caring. Our mother is almost one-hundred years old with hearing loss and memory issues. In this regard, they are very patient and respectful when communicating with her. In addition, when our mother has had health-related issues from time-to-time, the nursing staff is very timely in communicating with me as to what the issues are and how they are being addressed. When entering the facility, you are warmly greeted by SP’s receptionists. In addition to welcoming guests to SP, they are tasked with answering questions that the SP residents may have during the day. I have always been impressed with their sincere warm and energetic interaction with SP residents in helping the residents find solutions to the issues that impact their daily living at SP. They are great in working with demanding residents and in communicating with them in suggesting how their issues can be addressed and resolved. It is very common on my visits to SP to see members of SP’s management team, including SP’s Executive Director, Director Property Administrator, Director of Nursing, the Director of Activities, etc., interacting with SP residents, their families and other visitors. They have developed and have maintained a very warm and friendly community within SP. The Director of Activities is very creative in developing new activities and happenings for the residents’ enjoyment. Two years ago, the SP facility was purchased by StoryPoint Senior Living. Since then, there have been several major improvements and enhancements made to the facility for the enjoyment and comfort of SP’s residents. The only regret I have is that our family should have more persisted in encouraging our mother to move into SP when she was younger because of the many activities that SP has and the warm and friendly SP community. "

"Sunnymere was an excellent place with only 27 residents. The food was too starchy for me, but Mom loved it. I decorated her room, so she has the fanciest room there with an office setup and a computer. Ruth is a registered nurse that runs the place, and she is the most caring, most wonderful, educated, workaholic person you could ask for. Judy, the marketing person, together with their board, are all wonderful people. I was impressed with their activities and would like to support and help them. The staff is just as sweet and humble as can be, and their attitude is phenomenal. "

"We took a tour for my aunt Martha and fell in love with independence village. The community feels so vibrant and lively. Nothing like the other places we saw that felt cold and medical. She is not ready to move yet but we are putting this community at the tip top of our list!"

"I liked Brookdale Glen Ellyn very much. It's a lovely place. They seem to have thought of everything you might need. It was the only place I visited that had an indoor pool (which was important to me). My main concern is the cost. If I had the money I would go there. The facility was under renovation, but as I walked through, I didn't see a need for it because it was still very well kept. My exposure to the rooms was somewhat limited due to the fact that they didn't have many unoccupied places to look at. The activities seemed to be well thought out and many of them would be things that I'd be interested in. I know someone who lives there who has been very happy with her stay. I like the fact that it gets very high marks from anybody that I've been associated with, and that everybody says the food is great."

"I visited Lexington Square of Lombard, and the rooms were extremely spacious. I didn't meet that many people, but the one person that I talked to was very thorough and very accommodating. That was one that I would have considered, but it was a little bit too far. It was very clean and very nice. The rooms were big, so for the monetary value, it was very good. There were no odors. Things looked very well cared for. I didn't notice any safety hazards, like tears in the carpeting or anything like that. The hallways could be a little bit long for somebody, but I would have considered it if it were closer. The tour was very well done and very professional."

"The tour at The Grand at Twin Lakes was very nice. The people were very nice. They had quite a few nice amenities. They had a pool, a gym, a nice theater, and a library, but it was too far. They had a nice baby grand in the lobby."

"The Grand Victorian of Sycamore was clean and fancy. The person who greeted me was very helpful. Their facilities seemed phenomenal. They were priced higher but I could detect that it was probably higher quality. And so, you get what you pay for. They gave me a menu and it wasn't just a printout. It was a very professionally printed menu with gourmet pictures."

"The Roosevelt at Salt Creek has a continuum of care. They're under massive renovations. It's not an old building, and the units are nice. We saw a two-bedroom, and it was very clean. They have multiple amenities and two meals a day included in your fee. They are a rental community, not a purchase or buy-in community. We met several of the residents, and the person who gave the tour was very friendly, very personable, and very thoughtful. We thought that when she was giving us the tour, she had our needs in mind. They have an indoor pool. They're getting a new restaurant. Every floor will have a lounge area that is being updated. They have a private dining room, a wine cellar, and exercise rooms. Depending on your needs, you can a la carte any kind of care you want. It was a very nice place. Nothing that's a deal breaker. When we met some residents, my first question to them was, what's the food like? They all said that the food is good. They just had a new chef, and they have a restaurant, and your food is restaurant-quality. There's a food board of residents, along with the chef and the management, to determine what will be in the rotation."

"The sales person at Concord Place seemed very honest and forthright. Everything looked well. The thing I did not like was should my parents need any kind of financial assistance -- whether it be VA benefits or not -- they would have to move to a different location that was smaller. My mom is 84, and she has dementia; my stepfather is 95. If they get used to one setup and the time came that they needed financial assistance, a move to another location that is smaller would be more difficult for them to adapt. I don't want to move them more than once unless they need more attention, but the dining area seemed nice. "

"My stepdad and my mom are now in Generations at Oakton Arms. We are happy with it. It seems like a good place for them. When we walked in there, the size of the room kind of blew us away. The room they showed us had an attached room to it. They could have like a living room area, and then the other room could be their bedroom area, and each had their own bathroom. It's like having two separate rooms and there's a doorway between the two rooms. There's double with everything. It has a double sink area, two refrigerators, and two closets. The double bathroom was a good thing, too. My mom has a lot of bathroom issues, so she was glad to have her own bathroom. The size of the room was great, too. We took a bunch of stuff out of their condo and moved it over there, and a lot of their larger things fit in there, so there's quite a bit of space there. It's not a very fancy place. They get three meals a day, and they get nursing care. It just depends on what level of care you come in and how much nursing care you get. They have a beauty shop downstairs where somebody comes in once a week to cut hair. Downstairs, there's a library with lots of books and a pool table. They have a rehab room where they can sign up for rehab. They have a community room where they show movies and things on a big screen for the people that live there. They have activities like bingo, card playing, and different kinds of games. The food is OK, but it's nothing to brag about. They have an activity room where they offer crafts and things like that that people can do. They have outings for people. They can sign up to go to a play or something like that. And I think the community is kept up very nicely, too. "
