My mother is at American House Oak Park. I like the facility. It's newer and has pretty state of the art amenities. It's got a beautiful city vibe. The staff is friendly and attentive. They're there 24/7. There's a registered nurse on staff, so it's not just CNAs. The community is exceptionally clean and inviting. It's very modern. It really looks like a very high-scale hotel. In fact, the seventh floor has a view of downtown with an outdoor patio. It is like high-rise living. So, if you are coming from a home or a suburb, it's a different vibe for you. It has seven floors. It's jarring if you're not used to it, but it's beautiful for sure. We did a family event on Wednesday and people came in with their families and had a taste of food from around the world. Then the band came in and played. It was lovely. There was an introductory offer to get in, and the rate we're in now is amazing. Once the introductory rate goes up, it will go up and be more in line with how much you would pay to be in this type of facility. It really is beautiful and lovely and all the things. They had sitting pods and people were there with their families. You really feel like you're on vacation.

American House Oak Park was a brand-new facility. The layout was very well thought through. The rooms were nicely laid out in a way that made sense. There's enough room, but not too much room. It was a very modern, up-to-date sort of place. They didn't have a very large population of people living there yet. It was like going into a hotel that's only half empty. They had a dining area, a small workout facility, and some classes that were community-based. The person who gave me the tour was very knowledgeable. The location was kind of off a beaten path. It was a pretty good hike especially for a senior to walk from there to the downtown Oak Park area. There was a grocery store and a pharmacy relatively close by. The L train and the Metra train are a good mile away.

My mother-in-law has moved into American House Oak Park. She's getting assisted living. I like the fact that they keep her busy. They have different activities. She's met quite a few of the residents. They have an exercise class. They have a reading club they do together where they all read the same book and they discuss it. They have a Bible study. They do quite a few things. She's in a one-room apartment, and she has a refrigerator and she doesn't have a stove. She has a refrigerator and a microwave, just the essentials right there in her kitchen. She's got an area where her bed is. She's got a nice big walk-in closet. The bathroom is nice. The bathroom has a roll-in shower where if she was on a walker, she could just roll the walker into the shower and it's a big bathroom. It's got a shower, a toilet, and a sink with the vanity. There's plenty of room. If someone was in a wheelchair, they could maneuver in the bathroom. There's plenty of room to do what they need to do and roll it in and out of the shower. She likes some of the food. She's picky. There are some things she likes and some things she doesn't like. They play games. She loves the different activities. It's more expensive than some of the other ones. They'll take them on the bus, and then they'll take the residents to different outside activities, so they can get out of the building.

The tour I had at American House Oak Park went well. The managers were friendly. The facilities were very nice and clean. They have a lot of offerings. It felt safe. We were looking at the memory care floor. The memory care garden was nice, very welcoming, and warm. They have movies, live music, a bar, and a restaurant on the top floor overlooking a nice view of the city of Chicago.

I toured American House Oak Park. Everything was fine except for the fact that they charge you for parking. I don't understand why there would be a fee because you're paying a steep amount to live there, and then they want to charge you $125 to park. The place was fantastic. It was beautiful. Just gorgeous. The staff showed us more than one location and gave us ideas. He showed us a room that was already furnished and an unfurnished room. I love the way everything is highlighted to where you know where you are at all times. It's clean and it's only a year old. It's half full, which is what I like due to the fact that you could get in there right now and meet the people and be more of the community before they're full. Jeremy was very pleasant to interview. Even the people as we walked through, waved at us and said hello. It was kind of comforting to have Mom and Dad see that. It was a fantastic tour. The place was simply gorgeous. I enjoyed it.
