The Best Assisted Living Communities in Kane County, IL

"It is a very nice place, but it is a buy-in. I'm not interested in that. I am very impressed with it though. The rooms are adequate. They have activities, but they are not anywhere near what I have outside the community. They have a very small library and a craft room. The food is excellent."

"The Woodlands at Canterfield was beautiful. The apartments were fine, clean, nice, and brand new. We met with several people and they were all very nice and professional. They had a bunch of games going. It's brand new so there were not that many people there yet. We saw people in the lunchroom and it looked very nice. The dining area was beautiful. I didn't eat there. My brother and my mom ate there and they said the food was excellent. We met with several different people and overall everybody was great, but some were better than others."

"Monarch Landing was nice and had a lot of the amenities that I want, like covered parking, a pool, a fitness lab, lots of activities to choose from, and friendly people. I liked the apartments and everything about it. "

"My wife was in memory care for about a year and was very well taken care of. The room was very nice and the staff took good care of my wife they made sure she was comfortable. The staff were very nice and would call me if any issues came up. I was able to take my wife out anytime i wanted i usually took her out to lunch. I really had no issues with Bickford of Aurora it is a well run facility."

"It's a lot better putting my husband at Belmont Village; wish I had done this to begin with. They have levels of care but he's still in the assisted living. It impresses me that an RN is in the building and on duty 24/7. They have their own staff that fits to his need 24 hours a day but that would be extra pay. Right now, I'm very pleased. I think his room at Belmont is larger or it's just the way it was configured. It's very bright and the bathroom is nice even if it's not huge. When we moved his furniture in, they couldn't be more cooperative. They're very accommodating too. They check on them frequently at night and seemed very concerned to everyone. Cleanliness is great, no odor. It's a very up to date place. "

"We really liked it, but then Mom started to wander out of the building and she started to get the sundowners. One time, she got out of the building at night and they saw her on the cameras, but that was a really nice facility. They had a lot of activities, and they had the beauty shop and a really nice atrium. The dining room was really nice. The food was great. I would recommend that for assisted living. They were a little pricy, but it was worth paying that while Mom was there. They had the doctors' offices right in the building, like podiatrists and regular medical doctors. It would be nice if they had a little swimming pool, but I realize that would be putting them at risk for injuries and whatnot. Otherwise, it was a really nice and clean facility. They have bingo, exercise classes, they would have entertainment come in, and they have church. They have the little buses and they could take them to church, to Walmart, or the bank."

"Jennings Terrace was more like a nursing facility. The apartments were two rooms, a bedroom, and a small living room. There's a community shower, and that was unacceptable. The facility was nice. They provide three meals a day because these guys need assistance. I don't need the assisted living aspect of the apartment I'm looking for. The community shower is a turnoff to me. They were having lunch when I got there and everybody seemed very cordial, enjoying themselves. The problem is it's way too small. We couldn't even get one-tenth of our furniture in the place. If a person needed assisted living, I would recommend a place such as this. Everything was up to par as far as cleanliness and cordialness. It was just the size of the apartment and the apartment arrangement, too small a bedroom and living area. They have a medical facility attached to the place. They have common areas, and they're very clean and cordial. If I was by myself needing medical attention and needed assistance, I probably would have no problem living there. They've got a nondenominational religious chapel. They had room to play cards, just to socialize. They had a main dining room. Everybody seemed comfortable and I don't think there's any problem with the facility except it's not what I'm looking for."

"I thought it was nice, but we couldn't afford it. The lady who helped us was really very pleasant, very nice, and gave us a lot of information and a nice tour of the place. It was very clean and beautiful. The apartment she showed us was very nice. "

"After living at another facility for two years, I moved into the Gardens. What a difference. Much more attractive, pleasant, and well maintained. My sugar readings have gone down, and for the first time in years, my sugar levels are always in normal range. This is due mainly to the balanced nutritious meals served in the dining room. There are always enough choices for me to make a wise healthy choice. My studio apartment is spacious and very comfortable. And compared to other facilities, the price is right! "

"It has nice, fairly large apartments. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of outdoor space, a swimming pool, two libraries, a game room, and church services. They also have a bus that takes residents shopping."

"Sunnymere is very nice, it's the one my daughter is leaning towards, and I'm leaning towards it in a lot of areas too. It's very close to my home. In some ways, it's smaller. They have fewer residents, and my sister doesn't like the big, busy, lots of people around ideas, so, I think she would go for the idea that it's smaller. They do have a couple of floors, so there's stairs or elevator to get where you're going. It's an older place, but that's part of its charm, too, that's part of its history. For somebody that likes the old things, the antique things. The rooms are adequate. It's not as fancy, it's very plain, but I think it's very adequate. The staff is good here, they were calling residents by name. I did see more of the activities. I was there on a Friday, and they were having a happy hour. I talked with several of the residents, and they were all very pleased with where they were living, and the things that were going on. The one that I was looking at had the advantage of a 2-room suite. The one thing I didn't like about it is that all of their units were single, and then two units would share a bathroom and toilet area. They do have some suites where it's two rooms, and I thought that would suit my sister better. She's got her own toilet, and she doesn't have to share with somebody, but the toilet area is the communication between the two rooms; there's not a separate doorway to get into the other room so that I didn't like, but it's workable. With them, you don't have a private shower in the room. So that was another down, but the apartment that I'm looking at for my sister there is just across the hall from the shower room, so she wouldn't have to go far. The staff, I saw them did what they were there to be doing, and they did well. As far as I can tell with the care that the people were getting, everybody seemed satisfied. Nobody was saying, "Oh, don't bring your sister here, or she wouldn't like it." Everybody seemed happy."

"Alden Gardens of Waterford was very, very nice and clean with good food and nice land around it in a good location. The rooms were nice and had kitchenettes, but didn't look adequate for really cooking in the rooms. The atmosphere was good and positive. "

"The pandemic has been hard on everyone, but none more so than our elderly population. That being said, I have nothing but praise for Brookdale Glen Ellyn and the staff. My parents are both over 90 and have moved to an apt. in Assisted Living after having lived 5+ years here in Independent Living. The staff on the AL floor feel more like family at this point, and their consistent care and warmth toward my parents gives us great comfort. ALL of the nurses on the AL floor are outstanding, the CNAs hardworking and caring, and the housekeeping staff kind, efficient and friendly to the residents. Over the years we have had many extended family dinners hosted here which were wonderful, and dining services has stepped up and taken on a tough job during the COVID pandemic, delivering meals to all of the residents in their apartments. I understand that the options and quality have not suffered at all! With regard to the management team, and especially their handling of the COVID pandemic and what that means for seniors housed together, I give nothing but the highest marks. Excellent communication, thoughtful execution of difficult measures, and special care for the residents. My sisters and I feel so lucky that my parents , if they can't be with us, are at this place at this time with these people."
