"My mother is in Hawthorn Lakes, and they are terrific. We chose it because it is local. It is incredible how much they have going on there. They have card games, interactive games, dances, music, poker, bridge, and pool. They have outings. They have a theatre. They have book study clubs. You name it, they have it. They have nice rooms. Everything is clean and well-kept. They are awesome and amazing. I cannot say anything bad about them. "

"I found Victory, and I am now on the waiting list. It’s in the community where I live, and the visit was very satisfactory. The person there was fine, knowledgeable, and answered our questions. The rooms were fine, but I don’t think they have a lot of activities. The community all seemed fine and adequate, and the sanitation was fine too. They have a washer and dryer setup in the living quarters for each unit, and it was very impressive. "

"We toured Theresa's Home Care LLC 1. It was very nice. It seemed very clean. It's a home. It's not like an institution. It's not like a facility, so it's homey, and you get that homey feeling. We only really met with Teresa. There were some nurses there, and the dietary people were there, but we didn't meet them. Teresa was very nice, very welcoming, and warm. They do home-cooked meals. We saw them setting the tables and preparing, because it was getting ready to be dinner time. Their outdoor area was beautiful, with a lot of lawn. They had a recreational area downstairs on that first level where they do bingo or card games, puzzles, and things like that. It's like a mansion. I mean, there's like seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It's beautiful. The rooms are shared with patients, and I'm not necessarily saying I like that. There is no option for a private room."

"My brother moved to Bickford of Gurnee. He's in their assisted living section, and he's a level one. He loves his community, and I love the community, so we're very happy. The price was also right. I was invited to have all three meals with him if I wished. They also have activities all through the day and outings. It's clean and always smells nice. The staff, no matter what their job is, whether they're from the janitor department or the kitchen or the nurse or the administrator, every single person is always very kind and smiles. He said that everybody's so nice there. Those were our deciding factors. We love his apartment. He took the studio because that's really all he needs, and we filled it up and made it nice. I had gone to Walmart and bought him a television and a wall mount so he could have a TV in his room. When I went to deliver it, they had an extra television, so they gave him their television. They're just so nice there, so our hearts are warm and very happy. They have a beauty salon there and a hairdresser comes in every other week, which is really wonderful. He has his laundry day when they come in and strip his bed and take his dirty clothes, and do the laundry. The bathroom is big, and it's really nice, too. It's nice because it's a big square, so when we go there, we do laps. Around every corner, there's a nook and a cranny where there's a television and a couch, so I can just sit with him, or we can sit with a lot of people. The facility was built for Mrs. Bickford, and I think she was a musician, so they have one section with music and puzzles where you can just sit down and listen to music. It's just really nice. They even let me bring my pets in. They have two parakeets that live there, and I have dogs and birds, so when I bring my animals, they're very welcome. I can go visit 24 hours a day, and we really like that too. For instance, he's having a bad night, they said I got my fob so I could just come over and be with him. I thought that was great. The food is really good, and I like what they do. They have a nice, normal breakfast where you can order what you want, whether you want scrambled eggs or French toast. Then they have a big lunch, which is delicious. I like Wednesdays because they do Swedish meatballs, and they're so good. The dinner is light, which I think is really good, too, because no one wants to walk around or get into bed overeating. Dinner starts with a salad, and then there's always soup. Then there's chicken and a vegetable. They don't miss anything, so it's really good. Every dinner comes with dessert. Last time we had German chocolate cake, and sometimes it's an ice cream sundae. They also keep food out. They have a little section of that, if you wake up in the middle of the night and you're hungry. They have either cupcakes or brownies, and they also have fruit at their little bistro. If you get up in the middle of the night and you want to come out of your room and get a snack, they have one. My brother also has a refrigerator in his apartment so he can keep snacks in there. They have a nice big porch and patio in the back, and the activities are good. This month they're having two outings. When we first went there, my brother didn't want to do any of this stuff, but this place has really helped him to get back to his old self, and we're very happy. They keep the memory care people on a separate side of the building, except when they've had a tornado warning, when memory care and assisted living come together in a private safe hallway. My brother knew exactly where to go, and everybody was there, and they're all so nice to each other. It's an upbeat and happy place. I don't know what goes on in memory care, but in assisted living, nobody is whining and crying. They worked with us on the price. We had to pay the community fee, and they gave us half of that back, so I think that they're very fair. Of course, they have add-ons if your person can't take their medication or can't do things, but my brother showers in the morning and fixes himself up. The community has a very good impact on him, and I couldn't be happier."

"My wife moved into Gurnee Place Memory Care. It is nice and comfortable. They have nice cushions, davenports, and chairs every place around. They have afternoon breaks, puzzles, and games. I like the place. They have exercises, and they read the paper to them. Somebody brought in homemade musical instruments, and then they had the old-time radio playing all the time. All of the caregivers are very friendly."

"Sunrise of Gurnee was really nice, and I did like it. It was clean and pleasant. They had a group activity going on when I went in there, and they had entertainment. Their dining room was set up like a restaurant, and the food was appealing. The rooms had a nice variety -- a studio, one-bedroom or two-bedroom -- which would give my in-laws adequate space. It doesn't have a stove, which is fine because I would prefer they not be cooking since they're a little absentminded. It was well lit. They had skylights throughout upstairs in the hallways, and there was a fine daylight coming in. It was a perfect community for them. It was just a little pricy. The outside facilities were very nice. It wasn't like a nursing home nor a prison. They could go outside and leave if they have the capacity to do that. They had a lot of activities, which were both appropriate and enticing for people of varying age like trips, etc. It was a beautiful place. "

"My husband and I went to see it first, and then we took my sister-in-law back to see it. It was a good experience, but she chose the other place over Addolorata, and I am not sure why. I liked the fact that it was a religious institute, and when we went during the week, it was a very positive experience. "

"I had a great experience when I took a tour of Sunrise of Highland Park. The staff was great and I didn't have any complaints. The rooms looked like hotel rooms, and the dining area was like a restaurant. The facility was a bit smaller, so you'd have to consider if you want lots of potential friends with your loved one, but it was more intimate."

"When I was being sent to Rehab, I was scared. I didn't need to be. I was so impressed. Everyone was kind, called us by name, were ready to help even if it wasn't particularly their job (e.g., the secretary would graciously wheel me down to the dining hall when I was having trouble. The therapists were so good. They knew this was scary for me. But they reassured me even though they pushed me to do my best. We got used to the comfortable routine. Even the food was good! Outstanding pumpkin waffles! And I didn't expect to get a personalized menu at each meal so I could choose what I wanted. I hated being in the hospital, but rehab was such a good experience. It was a comforting, healing place!"

"It was fine, and a lovely experience. The staff was lovely, informative, and helpful. The rooms were fine, adequate, clean, and well laid out, however, it was a bit far away. "We had an in-person tour of The Grand at Twin Lakes. I highly recommend this facility. It was absolutely beautiful, but it was far more expensive. The director who gave us the tour was very helpful in answering our questions and showing us several different room options and amenities, including a movie theater and a swimming pool. The amenities that the facility had were really impressive. Everything was laid out beautifully and very appealing."

"North Shore Place was very nice but all assisted living. The rooms were very nice, but my parents didn't like the small size. It's also not a big complex but the dining room looked really nice and first rate. The lobby looked like a fancy hotel lobby. The staff was very caring. In fact, the nurses greeted us on our way up during the tour. "
